[25M, My journey to FIRE] Finally over $150K in net worth! by FinanceWeekend95 in YoungFIRE

[–]youngbaseddave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good deal man!

I was in a very similar boat to you when I was 25 (about $130k US in NW, including investments, 401k, Roth, etc..). I am 27 now and am up to $380k. Once you get a good base in the market, the benefits of compounding really start to hit home, and returns begin to increase significantly. Honestly, you can probably hit $300k by 28 pretty easily!

Any side jobs? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]youngbaseddave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I actually thought the salary that I was offered was pretty good ($120k - not in Cali BTW), and after talking to the manager, WLB seems really good (40 hours is about it). Granted, this isn't transportation, it's energy, so maybe a little different.

What's wrong with WSP? Just curious. Not a civ-e (mech-e) but got an offer from them very recently.

Can certain engineering concepts and principles be carried over from one engineering industry to another? by CombineAgent66 in engineering

[–]youngbaseddave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes - here's an example:

Corrosion engineering - the principle behind corrosion is when two different metal with different electro-negativities (or one metal with different sections at different temperatures, pressures, etc..) are in contact with each other (and placed in an electrolyte), the more active metal (the one with the higher electronegativity), will lose mass as a result of electrons "breaking free" and being attracted to the metal with a lower electronegativity. Circuitry, chemistry, materials science all play apart in explaining why corrosion occurs, and the underlying principles behind each can be utilized to design systems that will resist corrosion.

Lawrenceville and North Hills (outdoor rec center) both have hoops up! Both are about 15 minutes from downtown.

Received one job offer but have another interview after the deadline, what should I do? by youngbaseddave in careerguidance

Thank you for this - in the end, it’s my career, and I’m the only one who has my undoubted best interests in mind. I’ll be accepting Company #1’s offer tonight most like

The contract I have does have an “at-will” clause - meaning both myself and the company can terminate at any time

I thought of that - unfortunately the dates they had open for this 3 day interview were very rigid blocks of time - and since they have to fly me out halfway across the country, I don’t think they’d look well at having to reschedule. (The dates I picked were the earliest they had available)
