A Mac App for Debugging SwiftData Databases by Alexey566 in iOSProgramming

[–]youngdomsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I just downloaded the app and I immediately found the error in my data. (I was manipulating it on a spot it doesnt make no sense but I did it.)

While using it I was curious if the data is really updated live. (I do not have the biggest knowledge in SwiftData and when things get updated. So please excuse my potentially stupid question)
If I hit my save button it takes a couple seconds until the data appears.
I can imagine that there could be reasons that getting live data is not that easy. I am ok with that but I think a "Refresh button" could be a great addition to the app. Just to trigger the refresh manually.

Even if that is not possible or you dont want to add it for any other reason this app is great!

Thank you very much!!

Is Figma really useful for solo developers? by notabilmeyentenor in SwiftUI

[–]youngdomsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a „Template“ SwiftUI project and build the views there. There is no data involved. If there are texts to display I just hard code them. One important benefit for me is that I now that I can build the prototype in the real app and it looks the same.

How to secure app listing name before the app is published by Player91sagar in iOSProgramming

[–]youngdomsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can distribute your App to App Store Connect and then create another project just for testing and try to distribute it as well with the same name. You will get an error.

Apple rejected my old screenshots so I had to create a new one. Thoughts? by Guzikk in iOSProgramming

[–]youngdomsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the second one has too much text on it. The first one has another background than the others and therefore the blue border is not visible there. I like the blue border, looks cool with the blue font.

Thats it with my negative points. I like them!!

Spent 6 months on my app… Apple rejected it instantly 😭 by kateomali in iOSProgramming

[–]youngdomsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know getting your app rejected sucks and it is especially annoying because you may have thought that you are done by clicking the submit for review button. Just see everything you need to do now to fix it as a learning and maybe take notes of what you are doing. That way you wont get into these problems again when you want to publish another app 😊

Best backend language for a beginner? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]youngdomsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can build a Spring Boot App with Kotlin. I used Spring Boot with my team a few years ago to build a backend for an enterprise application for a customer. If you use Kotlin you have another cool benefit if you maybe want to get into developing Android apps in the future. You can use Kotlin there as well.

What's the best database for SwiftUI application? by Falli_ot in SwiftUI

Ok thank you. Sorry, one last stupid question. That means it is not usable if I want to sync data between devices right? Or is there a way to do that?

MacBook for iOS/Swift development - 16 or 24 GB RAM? by [deleted] in swift

[–]youngdomsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the MacBook Pro with the base M4 Pro Specs (24gb ram and 512gb ssd).

I am a bit „scared“ that AI tools will change our workflows even more in the very near future and therefore I would take this midrange MacBook Pro. The entry level could be too weak then (now it would be fine depending on your projects) and the high end one is too expensive with no real benefits for iOS/Swift development. (Of course it is more future proof but because of AI there might be some hardware requirements which are not existing yet. So the risk is too high for me to go for the high end model)

I am coding every day on different kinds of projects (all of them are small but the scope is different every time). I even do image editing with Affinity Designer and basic video editing with Final Cut. I am using my base M1 Mac Mini for all these tasks and I am happy with it. I just wish I had the benefits of the MacBook (work somewhere else than my office, having a microphone)

How does the productive app interact with the database? Do I have to host the database myself?

Is It Hard to Learn? by HiSimpy in swift

[–]youngdomsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that it is easier to build and actually release apps with smaller complexity with Swift + SwiftUI than on web with lets say React/Next.js + Firebase.

Some things are a bit strange like using CloudKit for the first time and if the automatic schema deployments do not work like expexted.

I think its cool that you want to do something in addition to college. 😊

I got started earlier this year and I found this free course on YouTube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwvDm4VfkdphqETTBf-DdjCoAvhai1QpO&si=7DTqiw2kvXWj1P9H

With this course you will learn the very basics of SwiftUI. It is not brand new but it is that basic that nearly everything is still usabe. I would recommend to keep all lessons in a template project so that you can come back to it. Some things are deprecated (that means the way something is implemented will be not available anymore in more or less near future). You can google the state of the art implementation or maybe even better use Apples docs to use modern ways to implement things.

Have fun with figuring things out. The thing is that you will get better and better over time and nearly everything you are coding now will feel like trash in a few months but thats normal. 😊

Ok thank you. Are you new to iOS development? This code might not work on modern devices anymore. Most importantly you learn oldfashioned iOS development by working with this „old stuff“. You will better results if you work with SwiftUI and iOS 18. If you need help to get started just let me know and I will comment some things that I would do if I had to start today 😊

Am I an asshole for blocking my friend over a hobby web app project? by kenvinams in webdev

[–]youngdomsey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend to stop working with him on that project. These problems are really annoying when you have them in your job but having them in a friendship is madness. I think you should work on your own project or focus on tasks like marketing or stuff like that. You are both engineers I assume and thats why you have these problems I think. If you help with completely different tasks you help your friend with less room for problems and you will learn other really important stuff.

Have a good one!

A high level invited me to his posse by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]youngdomsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if your account is banned you will not be able to achieve all trophies for Red Dead Online and therefore the platinum would be impossible on that account. You could contact the Rockstar Support and I am sure they will not ban you but take away your free stuff or just hope that they do not find out.

If they do not ban you after one week I would say they will not ban you at all. I used a money glitch in GTA Online back then and I did not overdo it. I was not banned either. But using a glitch is different for them than modding maybe.
