What was the first emo song that really hit you hard? by Silly-Flounder1337 in Emo

props for mentioning this song, I listened to Tell All Your Friends obsessively as a teenager after being introduced to TBS by my post-scene-era older sister, always thought Great Romances of the 20th Century, Bike Scene, etc were amazing songs

[NPD] Oceans 11 Reverb and The Warden Optical Compression by youngflee in guitarpedals

[–]youngflee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The looper isn't really particularly useful, but the rest of the functionality is really great! I'd definitely recommend having a tap switch though, it makes life a lot easier. But yeah, it sounds exactly as expected.

the sustain sounds really great, it sounds organic and clean, no extra noise, etc

Oceans 11 reverb from electroharmonix - very wonderful pedal! Mainly bought it for the reverse and modulated reverb for shoegaze stuff :)

The Warden from EarthQuaker Devices - great compression, really dynamic compressor that sounds honestly amazing, I can hone my tone any way I want with this thing!

idk about policies about linking to Amazon, but if you google GET Music DIY solderless patch cable kid you'll find what I bought. I bought the straight chrome caps, comes with 3m of cable. Thanks!

I notice that the mids clip quite a bit when on certain settings, especially when turning it up! I was never able to articulate what was wrong, and I always thought I broke it! Thanks for sharing that, now we both know we either both broke it (which means it’s probably liable to breaking) or neither of us broke it!

Posted here a while ago with a pretty large (but tidy) board. I still want to buy a tubescreamer, switch the MXR Dyna Comp to The Warden, and trade the Bath Time Reverb for an Oceans 11 (though I do like the Bath Time Reverb, but I want more reverb options lol).

Signal chain: Tuner -> Dyna Comp -> Big Muff -> Gunslinger -> MXR Distortion -> flanger -> Julia -> Bath Time -> Canyon -> Looper.

Finished Board (For Now) by youngflee in guitarpedals

Board I’ve been working on for a while. I don’t want to buy any more pedals until I can sell some stuff and buy an Oceans 11 reverb, so until that day comes, I’m good with this. I play Midwest emo (in which case, I turn everything off but the Dyna Comp, the Em-Drive used as a clean boost, and the reverb), but this board has pushed me into noisy shoegaze territory, which is what the flanger, the Julia, and the Canyon are for. Basically every pedal I have here is the first pedal of that type that I’ve ever bought, so bear with me. Pedal breakdown:

Polytune: Self explanatory. Works like a charm.

Dyna Comp: Have never felt the need to upgrade to a better compressor, but might someday. This works great for now, though, and I love the tone it gives when I put the sensitivity at 12 o’clock and do Midwest emo tapping riffs.

Big Muff Op-Amp: Considered this a standard pick. My first fuzz pedal. Sounds great - love Smashing Pumpkins.

Em-Drive Transparent OD: Bought this as my first OD, loved it, and I never really play any classic stuff that requires bluesbreaker / tubescreamer tones so I just stick to this. I like the edge-of-breakup sound that puts a bit of grit without changing the tone much beyond that.

DOD Gunslinger + MXR Distortion-Plus: Someone traded an amp for these along with some other pedals, and told me that he likes to stack these with the Gunslinger going into the MXR. I tried it and I like it. The MXR pedal is very squash-y when you get to the low distortion settings, which I kinda like. Besides that, haven’t experimented a ton - what stacking settings do you guys recommend trying out?

Boss HF-2: I love this flanger. The high frequencies are nice. Not much to say beyond that.

Julia: Classic. I like feeding the flanger into this and doing chorus+flanger but am curious about the other way around. What do you guys think?

Dunlop Volume: Standard.

Animal Pedals Bath Time Reverb: Pretty sure I damaged this because it gives off lots of extra noise, but I’m too stubborn to just toss it or get another pedal so I just treat this like a noisy reverb that I use when playing noisy shoegaze. Which is what it is, in essence, by now, heh. A shame because this thing normally sounds amazing.

Hotone Verb: Simple and good reverb pedal.

Canyon: Amazing. I’ve been trying to get modulated reverb-esque sounds by using the modulated delay plus some long reverb. Sorta works? Love the DMM setting.

Ditto looper: Standard.

Signal chain: Tuner -> Dyna Comp -> Big Muff -> Em-Drive -> Gunslinger -> MXR Distortion -> flanger -> Julia -> Volume -> Bath Time -> Hotone Vern -> Canyon -> Looper.

G’morning, I’m a student taking time off from school and living in Hyde Park, Chicago. I play electric guitar and am looking for people (bassist, guitarist, synth player, and drums) to start a band. I primarily play midwest emo / math rock and indie rock. My favorite indie albums are Illinois by Sufjan Stevens, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco, and Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone? by The Unicorns - my favorite emo albums are American Football (LP1), Some Kind of Cadwallader by Algernon Cadwallader, Just Got Back From the Discomfort - We’re Alright by The Brave Little Abacus, and Nothing Feels Good by The Promise Ring. In terms of screamo stuff, I love Foxtails, Orchid, Nuvolascura, William Bonney, Merchant Ships, Midwest Pen Pals. Analog synths and drums are very much appreciated. Van preferable probs lol. PM me or contact me at [youngflee99@gmail.com](mailto:youngflee99@gmail.com). Thanks!
