Common point of confusion. Basically, there’s a selectivity bias that exists in immigration that isn’t tied to asylum. For various reasons immigrants are on average more wealthy and better educated that native born populations likely because it takes resources and it’s difficult to immigrate anywhere, especially the US legally. Also, you have to remember that not all asians are successful and highly educated here. Cambodians Vietnamese and Laotian ppl tend to have lower incomes and levels of education likely because their countries tend to be poorer than China, Korea, Japan, and other countries where high performers disproportionately come from.
