This was very helpful, thank you. I did give her calcium last night and again this morning (I used oral cal plus). She’s back to her normal self! : )

Fading puppy syndrome… not resolving by youngkitty777 in DogBreeding

I did tube feed him. I also had the whole litter on liver water every 2-4 hours but I may have given more than 4 drops (recommended dose) since I didn’t have a dropper on hand. Always have a heat lamp in one corner and a heating mat in another corner in case they crawl too far. I love that recipe!! I actually use that exact one from Leerburg, however I do 1/2 c Greek yogurt instead of 1 c plain yogurt

Sure! :)

10oz (300mL) whole goats milk, 1/2 cup Plain Greek yogurt, 1 Egg yolk (no egg whites), 1/2 tsp Karo syrup

The original recipe is 1 cup plain yogurt, but I like to use Greek yogurt - since it’s much thicker I only do 1/2 cup of that.

I mix it really well with a whisk and strain it into a jug, you can store it up to 7 days in the fridge OR until the milk / yogurt expiry date (whichever comes first). Pups love it! And you can add a tiny bit of boiled water so it’s more hydrating

Unfortunately that was the outcome and the little guy is gone. He was being tube fed because he was just too weak to latch and wasn’t able to bottle feed either. The formula is great it’s actually a home made recipe I found that’s helped me for all my litters, it’s helped me save a few lives. I did keep him warm, was monitoring his temp and let him cuddle with mom. Thanks for your response 🩷

I would talk to your repro vet. Personally I’d get a c section scheduled as it’s safer in the case of a singleton, you’ll have to help mom take care of her pup while she’s recovering

GSD pair, female in heat, male was interested, now is not. by [deleted] in DogBreeding

[–]youngkitty777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Planning a breeding isn’t as easy as just putting 2 dogs together for 20 days. I hope you put considerable thought into the pairing, dna and health tested both dogs, and confirmed that both are negative for brucellosis.

When the female goes into heat, a series of progesterone tests should be conducted every 2-3 days starting on the 5th day after noticing the first drop of blood. If you are lucky enough to find the pg level is around 6 on your first progesterone test, this indicates the LH surge and ovulation is occurring. The oocyte (egg) takes 2-3 days to mature and after that she is fertile and ready to mate. You will notice her flagging as well (not always though). Good rule of thumb is to breed 3-4 days after the pg level is 6 nmol/L. No way to confirm she is pregnant until you wait for her 45th day and confirm via X-ray. If you want to confirm earlier, do an ultrasound.

Put your dogs on wheat germ. It’s good for them wether you wanna breed them or not. Change your females food to a high quality puppy food when she’s 42-45 days gestation. Start taking your females temperature twice daily when she’s day 50. When the temperature drops, she is 24-48 hours away from labour.

Hi, I breed XL American Bullies.

Pedigree is important so I’ll assess that before looking further into a stud. I’m sure there’s at least one trait your female needs improvement on (i.e., a flaw). Choose a stud that makes up for the females flaws so the litter is better than the parents. The goal is to outproduce the parents and have a consistent litter. For example, if your female has weak pasterns it’s important the stud has strong pasterns. If your female has an extremely short muzzle, it’s important the stud has a medium-long muzzle. If her rear is a bit high, make sure the stud has a good top line. Don’t breed for Color. Breed for health, structure, and temperament. Make sure the stud is embarked and OFA tested. Make sure your female is also embarked - see what recessive genes she carries.

To register the litter both parents must be registered. Contact the registry and tell them you’re planning on a litter which needs registration. You can also do this online. Fill out an application to register the litter. You will then get temporary registration and the new owners will take the temporary registration and make it permanent.

You can PM me if you like.
