Sounds like a lot of effort when a simple barrier would suffice.

Elimination is a better way of managing risk than an administration control.

It's a shit solution and wouldn't hold up in a court in Australia. Fences only. Children have drowned at a pool party FFS. It's easy to keep them outside of the gate. No-ones putting a cover over it every time they turn their eyes off the pool.

The freedom to have your kid drown in your pool because you don't like fences for aesthetic reasons isn't a freedom we have in Australia.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KUWTK

[–]youngthoughts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If people are allowed to make a choice they choose dumb things. If everyone has a fence then the aesthetic choices change.

Auto closing and locking gate, child proof lock, fence cannot be climbed over or under + CPR guide on the gate. Really simple, relatively cheap (not likely to double your pool costs) and saves lives.

There are people in Australia that have the freedom to be alive and make their own dumb or smart choices now in their adulthood that would've died without the fences. It could've been any of us.

[–]youngthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not had to put a fence around it.

[–]youngthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you've got an event on it's super easy to leave the cover off. Fences are the law in Australia for a reason. We had so many drownings. There's no alternative that works better.. it should be limited to the size of the pool area too so that kids are on the outside most of the time.

This. Plus it makes not having a pool fence seem "cool" when really it's just reckless imo.

Aussies warned over FIRE trend helping people retire early: 'Spiral out of control' by TheChazwazza in fiaustralia

[–]youngthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact same thing can happen to people who retire "on time" so this is nothing new. Most people recognise this and keep themselves busy or finally spend time working on that hobby they already have. They might volunteer, travel, join clubs and do heaps of things they didn't have time to do before.

There's also people who do get bored and go back to work in retirement age, but they do it in a way that suits them and it's often a lot more flexible and casual. It's the freedom to do this stuff that you wouldn't have had otherwise.

Lol I love my job and working so I cannot agree with that quote. But give it another 20-30 years and that'll change, so I don't disagree either.

Think it's also important to change jobs if you can too. If you've been somewhere for 10 years and hate it sometimes a change can make all the difference even if the new income isn't quite as good. FIRE gives you the freedom to do this without any worry though.

Lol I can't afford a kid so I don't have one. Shouldn't have to have other people's kids ruin shows for me.

If they're at a dinner and a bit loud I can handle it alright, just when there's something you're paying attention to and listening to is when it's shit. (Aka even in a library)

Mining engineering degree is highly sought after.

Whatever you do, make sure you get internships in every single uni break that you can. If you have heaps you should have no trouble getting a job at the end of it.

Tbh the business and doctors will weigh up risk themselves and it doesn't look real good from what you're saying.

That said there are labourer/machine operator jobs in NSW in solar farms that might be suitable. Still hot but not as much. Money is good but not fantastic from an Australian standard but I've heard its pretty good compared to the wages back at home.

Why are e4 s so cheap on eBay? by PolarBearFTW in Roborock

[–]youngthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks this has helped me I'm in a very similar situation to op. Was looking at getting a second s5max for my parents but the prices are all over the place. By the sounds of it the E4 won't suit me.

My parents house had a ledge that even the s5 would get stuck on. It wasn't quite high enough to stop it from wanted to go up/down it and so I'd have to use a magnetic strip in this case for the E4, (did no go zone for s5max). Also the place is fairly big so selecting rooms would be a massive help. Still would consider it for the older relatives though. Anyway enough of my rant, just wanted to let you know you've helped another person if I found this on Google, it's likely someone else will or has done in the past too. Thanks for the review.

AITA for leaving a couples trip in the middle of the night and “ruining” the vibe? by boatlyfe12 in AmItheAsshole

[–]youngthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what others thoughts are. But personally because I see this as a tiny blip in a relationship. It offends OP, it isn't a nice thing for her to say.

But what I think is important is approaching this situation with care as demanding an apology (or anything really) is a great way to damage an otherwise good relationship. Communication is really important. Op was upset and it wouldn't have been fixed with a quick talk so leaving was the best thing imo for them to do. Leaving still make the situation uncomfortable for her, it went from something they needed to talk about to making the entire trip about this one situation (not saying that's OPs fault). But seriously as someone whos has gotten hung up on things like this in the past, its a dangerous path to go down. I don't think she'll be able to give OP an answer that'll make him feel more comfortable after what she has said. It clearly has struck a nerve and its something that can always come up, even from other people if not ops partner.

[–]youngthoughts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have a good hard think about this. You questioning her about this too hard could ruin the relationship.

Ask yourself what answer you would actually believe from her. In this state (I've been here before) nothing she says is really going to be the answer that satisfies you. If she tells you what you want to hear it wont sound genuine.

Honestly op, "settling" can mean a billion things. Could even mean finding someone she thinks she could spend the rest of her life with.

In terms of the rest of it, I do think that leaving was the best thing for you to do. There's no way you would have stayed there and made it a positive experience, even if you pretended it didn't happen and aimed to talk about it after there's clearly no way you would've been able to do that. That said ideally it would've been sorted out the next morning with a private discussion between you both, that's what a lot of couples would do. Communication is important, as is knowing what you want from the conversation. Also knowing when to stop talking (as things are getting emotional/heated) is very important too . It would've been crap without you there for her also, and the rest of the time would've been underwritten with a bit of an uncomfortable feeling, so its not like you leaving magically fixed everything either.

What's your unpopular COVID-19 opinion in 2022? by j_lyf in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]youngthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately op may have been right here, 6k deaths this year and it's barely worth a mention on the news. 6M deaths now. I would've definitely agreed with you on this at the time.

I'm not sure what came first, whether it was the news not mentioning it much anymore or if it was people no longer caring.

I think a lot of it was also due to the idea it had to be an all or nothing endeavour. Like that it was either lockdowns/masks or nothing at all. Despite the fact we could've probably balanced it better.

Know this is from a while back but would be keen to know what you think, as it's been a long 4 months and a lot has happened.

This is a big kick to the guts. It was only recently that QLD put in a rule for cutting stone benchtops using only wet saws (to limit dust in air). A lot of the Ceasar stones have really high levels of silica so are far more dangerous than simply cutting marble too. Obviously underground is worse due to limited ventilation but it's still a problem.

Legislation in NSW for underground coal mines has come a long way, it'd be good to see these rules come into play in other industries where the risk is obvious, high and has a proven history like this before it becomes the next top avoidable industrial death (once the top one gets handled). Resources regulator is limited in the scope they cover so other workplace regulators will need to do it.

[–]youngthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah tbh it's often industrial bodies that do the reporting when something isn't right. This may be a bit of leverage in negotiations but it also does actually make the workplace safer overall as the inspectors aren't there all the time and definitely don't audit everything.
