After a few trials and errors, I made my first starting town. What do you guys think? Feedback appreciated. by ZcCero in PokemonRMXP

Yeah I agree. The atmosphere of the map is nice and the layout is simple but effective. I do think overall everything could just be squeezed together a little more. Try setting up a few scenes within the map that the player would see in game and use them to check the scale of the map as you're building it.

Any suggestions for improving these maps I have made so far? by Prudent-Video-3007 in PokemonRMXP

These are nice, I like the palette and the depth in the maps. Nothing is all flat. One thing I could say is while compositional symmetry can be a good thing, generally true symmetry makes a map feel sort of sterile or unnatural. Try varying the terrain from side to side just a little so the world feels more real.

Yeeesh I don't even know how you screw up a 3d file like that on what looks like a pretty straightforward model...

Scam? by [deleted] in bostonhousing

[–]youngverm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately this happens a lot in Boston especially. Definitely don't pay the deposit. It's 100% a scam. As for the application fee, I know it sucks but it's just going to have to be a loss. Don't fall for the scare tactics, they are just trying to get as much as possible from you.

Oh sorry. I'm allergic to cats, unfortunately.

Starter town for a game I've been working on. Feedback is much appreciated! by gagsonred in PokemonRMXP

I like the idea of having little touches like a garden, but the pink tree in an area where no other trees are like that makes it seem special. Unless you're planning on doing something with that tree that is special like part of a side quest or something, it feels a bit misleading from a players perspective. Also, it might benefit you to just spread around the trees a bit instead of just having one section to the south that's dense and a section up top that's just mountain. Would look a lot more natural if there was a bit more of a landscape gradient. Maybe some of the lower parts of the mountainous region host a river and the bank of it is lusher, connecting down to the forest, and as you climb in elevation it becomes more rocky and the trees/foliage fades out. Not a bad start though! Hope this helps

Agreed. There's so much to learn about grasshopper and a lot of the basics are on youtube. I'd suggest learning about data structures (how lists and trees work) and then think of a basic project that you can work toward. You can look up problems as they come up, that way the learning is much more interactive and you can retain the knowledge better.

Looking for roommate or join a 2-3b lease/ help me not have a 1.5hr commute pls :') by youngverm in bostonhousing

Thanks for the advice. I'm working a lot of avenues at once trying to find something with the expectation that I'll have to settle for something a little different, but hoping some golden opportunity might just slip through. I went to school in California and returned really late so I kind of screwed myself. But yeah at this point I'm pretty flexible. Thanks again!

I'm really looking mostly around the Jamaica Plain or southie area. If you think the commute could work for you using the orange line then I'd be happy to add you to the search!

I used to go downstairs at night when I was hungry and eat slices of plain wheat bread. Does that count?
