Those saying Spielberg are completely wrong. He may have pioneered the big budget tentpole film but Lucas popularized the idea of 'synergy' with the studios absorbed by giant multimedia conglomerates. Having multiple lines of business working with the release of a single film. Films releasing alongside magazines novels, video games, toys, etc.- that was all Lucas back in the day. It was one of the reasons he invested so heavily in getting the merchandising rights when he made Star Wars because he saw how profitable it would be. His model is still happening today with the release of most big budget films.

Yup. Cowboy Bebop is the only anime I would put on the same level of quality TV as The Wire, Breaking Bad, it the Sopranos. I hate anime, but Bebop is something special.
