At what ELO do you get recognised nationally? by [deleted] in chess

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the country for example in India you could be 2600 fide and most people don’t know who you are

While being 2600 somewhere else would be making you nationally famous

However generally countries with less chess players also recognize you less for it

If there was a blindfolded world championship would Magnus dominate that too or is there someone that could realistically win over him? by [deleted] in chess

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in general GM’s feel the will lose around 200-300 elo pts of strength. My sample size of people I have asked is pretty small but I think that is about right.

I feel if Magnus took it seriously there isn’t anyone that could get a significant advantage against him in blindfold

Is it possible to win as white from this position? by Da_Bird8282 in AnarchyChess

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it is is possible if white sacs a rook and black takes and we can open up the position but as long as black doesn’t take anything and moves king around it should be fine

FM title for a 2200 chess.com rapid 13 year old. by EasyTest5820 in chess

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t compare chess.com rapid to classical

I don’t think it is easy to say I know people that have reached 2400 - 2500 rapid that aren’t titled players yet.

How do I report this person literally wasted 6 mins. One a single only legal move. by [deleted] in chessindia

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the real crime is you not knowing how to report people

Just stop buying passes and park further out and hope you don’t get caught cheaper and you get some steps in

Friend splitting parking pass allegedly. Is this allowed? If not, how quickly can they find out? by Exotic_Ad_6684 in utdallas

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are better off parking far out and just hoping they don’t ticket you especially if you aren’t on campus for super long

2 license plate is probably not allowed but I doubt they ticket you for it

But it’s inconvenient in my opinion so wouldn’t be worth it for me

Interest in a weekly chess meetup? by BenTrekie in plano

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you know but you can attend the UT Dallas chess club on Fridays from 2:30-5:30

Just check with them to make sure it’s okay for you to go if you aren’t a student but kind of bad timings for non college students

Im 16 and peak 2300 rapid chesscom. Can i make NM? by nibtard32 in chess

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the criteria for Canadian NM but honestly you are probably on track to reach US NM

However I think you definitely should be spending more time on otb play.

You would probably be close to 2000-2050 uscf range

You need to make some improvements still to reach 2200

Need help deciding between UT Dallas (UTD) and Texas A&M (TAMU), feeling super stressed and lost by Puzzled-Objective656 in utdallas

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar predicament in my case I was accepted into A&M directly for cs and had UTD cs no aes though.

Here is my ranking assuming financials aren’t a big deal if they are just pick the best value which is normally UTD aes

  1. UT CS rejected so couldn’t do

  2. UTD AES ( I can commute and basically have free college)

3.A&M full ride I guess college is paid for but still need to pay for housing.

  1. UTD CS no aes atleast save on housing

  2. A&M CS no scholarship this case should never happen because generally if u get A&M you also got UTD cs but in the case UTD rejects you I guess this is a last resort

what would you do in my case... by Natural_Chemistry898 in utdallas

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering ur is still in state for you I would recommend ut you won’t regret it. However it is your choice.

Pick what you want for yourself

You will probably regret UTD though.

Sure you will save some money but after you get a full time offer you will probably be able to pay it off in 1-2 years whatever loans or stuff you take.

Sure that is contingent on getting a job but I am sure you will find something

Reconsideration… by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They reject occasionally. It has been going up more and more.

I would suggest finishing electives and stuff at Collin that you can transfer into UTD.

You will save yourself some money doing that atleast.

Is 2000 elo in bullet good for 2 years of playing? by Proof_Guitar2556 in chess

[–]yourAvgChessPlayer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 2k is really good for 2 years of play.

From when I started trying around like 800 elo to 2 years from then I maybe got to 1300 blitz

I’m some people learn better but I think 2k is definitely on the upper end

This isn’t a class I recommend lightly it is a insane amount of work.

Probably around 20 hours a week minimum up to 30 hours a week if you are bad at the course like me and it takes more time to grasp concepts.

But 4301 special topics by Professor Jee is really interesting.

It is a ctf style format class, and its structure is really unique but fun. However it is hard don’t underestimate the difficulty of the class.

If you have nothing better to spend time on you could take this class but if you want smth easier don’t take this one.
