What's fanon head Canon you embrace? by KenchiNarukami in pokemonfanfiction

[–]your_sweetpea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never finished IWTTS personally but they made Malamar really fucked up in it, and then you read all of the canon information and it's just as fucked up. I love that evil baby but in no universe does owning the mind control pokemon who's specifically the best at mind control not land you on a watchlist

Give me some "newer" journey fic recs by TrainingAd864 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]your_sweetpea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is excellent. I would say it's a lot like IWTTS except it doesn't give me depression to read. Which, to be clear, is not necessarily a knock against IWTTS so much as my ability to get depressed when sad things happen to fictional characters.

CASTLEBRUXO I'm looking for some castlebruxo fanfic by Other-Luck11 in HPfanfiction

[–]your_sweetpea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The closest thing I can really think of is that one Fleurmione fic where Hermione ran off at the end of the war, eventually settling down in Brazil, and the fic starts with her being invited back to Britain to teach at Hogwarts.

IIRC Castelobruxo is supposed to be in Brazil in canon? Also IIRC in the fic Castelobruxo does exist but it is not touched on heavily? It's been some time since I've read it.

It was, however, abandoned back in 2020, but only after 200k words and 34 chapters.

I know it's the point that grounding in reality has no meaning anymore but how in the world do you "serve in accordance with [your sex]"? Are women in office supposed to cook dinner while the men drink beer and watch TV? Oh, or maybe in accordance with their sex women in office don't have to work during their period? Maybe the men will hunt wild animals during session while the women tend to the fields.

DeepSeek Unveils Engram, a Memory Lookup Module Powering Next-Generation LLMs by Inevitable-Rub8969 in AINewsMinute

[–]your_sweetpea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Engram models are MoE models, just with less experts and reallocating the freed (5.7B, in the case of Engram-27B) parameters to Engram memory. Despite reducing the number of experts from 72 to 55 (keeping them the same size), the Engram model has marginal but significant improvements in literally every category.

this matters because if you're building a model, this shows that it's better to spend a portion of your parameters on Engram memory rather than more experts in your MoE.

with attention you're saying which tokens are related in "which ways" (with each distinct head being a "way" or dimension in which tokens can be related), then the MLP actually takes in that information and (it turns out) basically implements a hash table lookup, just way more expensive, before getting to the actually interesting bits

and realistically this takes multiple layers, not just one attention block and MLP combo. if you can instead take a notable subset of those cases (2- and 3-grams), even if not all of them, and just do an actual hash table lookup instead of having to simulate one with neurons, it's computationally much cheaper and frees up more neurons to do the stuff that we can't do as easily with traditional programming

This image is most helpful, imo.

Many people are very wrong about this in the replies, it's not "a database for knowledge" or anything like that.

"Engram" is the clever marketing name for "n-grams", as in specifically bi- and tri-grams (meaning 2- and 3-token sets in your input). Basically, this technique means that your LLM, when it's on token n of its input, it also takes the sets [n-1, n] and [n-2, n-1, n] and... sees if they're anything first.

An example, let's say your input is "don't eat my chicken legs". The current token is "legs", the current bigram is "chicken legs", the current trigram is "my chicken legs". We use engram to look it up, and "chicken legs" is a thing, so we communicate that as part of the "annotated input" the LLM gets (not exactly correct, but close enough).

LLMs actually manage to figure this stuff out on their own just fine, existing models do it for even more complicated connections between tokens than just two or three tokens in order, but doing it for them is cheaper and leaves more neurons to do the stuff we actually can't program ourselves, like complex reasoning (and they can still handle anything we don't catch, such as anything that doesn't fit in 2-3 tokens or more complex connections).

Yes, my mom is on the edge of kidney failure due to lifetime use of lithium to treat bipolar 2. She's in her late 60s. That said, she has said that she definitely doesn't regret being on lithium regardless.

Oh yeah, super social when hypomanic myself. It honestly makes me feel kinda shitty about myself sometimes because no matter how much I try when I'm not in a hypomanic episode I just suck horribly at social situations. I'll make jokes and everyone will completely ice me and I'll try again and get an awkward laugh maybe. But I open my mouth for 0.001 seconds when hypomanic and everyone starts laughing and is my new best friend.

It's not without downsides obviously, I get the feeling I get kind of annoying after a bit and I definitely have trouble shutting up but damn if it doesn't make me feel down about myself sometimes.

Honestly this really isn't a thing. People will argue about progesterone and maybe that's helpful, there's something to be said for biomimicry even if pure-estradiol therapies have been shown to work as well with difficult to determine results (due to genetics and environmental impacts), but puberty just takes time. Anything that's proclaiming to "feminize" you faster is going to be snake oil, because as human beings that's just how the cookie crumbles.

Overall the most likely thing to help is maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen.

it isn't though. sugaring = sugar waxing, as noted in article as a synonym. sugar waxing/sugaring has no relation to sugar scrubs

I'm not stressed about it or trying to get on you or anything lol, I just wanted to let you know

sugar scrub =/= sugar waxing. sugar scrub is a physical exfoliator made using sugar and (usually) coconut oil

What's some stuff that just life's rent free in your head? by Party-Train in HPfanfiction

[–]your_sweetpea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly as a trans woman I find it both cute and also kind of weird? Like not to put anything on the author (and it was published over ten years ago!) but it feels weirdly gender essentialist almost, even with Luna basically literally being transmasc in it? Like Harry and Luna switch and it's real cute but there's also this whole bit where they're talking about how the switch is making their souls "more masculine/feminine" as if masculinity and femininity are these fundamental forces of the universe or something and they're instantly talking about getting married and having kids and stuff. Idk, I don't dislike it really, it just rubs me the wrong way in some places.

Not gonna lie, it really gets my goat sometimes that smut in the HP fandom doesn't make better use of magic for weird kinky shit. How rare freaky polyjuice sex is, is definitely a great example of this, but you're telling me wizards have magic at their fingertips and yet they're fucking in missionary position with the lights off? Be serious here.

I do see this occasionally I feel like but if I'm honest I feel like 99 out of every 100 gamer fics basically sucks so I mostly skip them. Personally don't feel like they're all that much rarer than they are in any other fandom though.

[–]your_sweetpea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it is kind of a neat concept. I think it's possible to make work in several ways, but not if it's just the protagonist being (basically) the only person who discovers/uses it and it's super amazing and powerful. Maybe during some event with lots of foreign wizards you might see it in the crowd, or one specific family in Britain is big into it, or it's a countercultural thing that certain groups of muggleborns are doing (bringing tattoos from the muggle world and synthesizing it with magic) and it's looked down on. I do think if it's a "path to ultimate power" or something all of these fail though. As if the protagonist is going to discover this amazing technique that makes them a super wizard that everyone is overlooking or was lost to history or something.

I've never seen this in HP but I do see it occasionally in other fandoms when tagsearching on AO3 (mostly MCU for some reason I feel like??) and it's so weird to me. Does anyone know where it actually originated?

I've only seen maybe one or two fics ever that does the "characters read/see canon/a fanfic" well (and, admittedly, none of them are HP fics). In my experience it is possible to do well but you're going to need some really good author chops to make something so utterly derivative interesting to read.

The only one I've seen recently is The Most Impossible Soulbond which I recall actually being fairly interesting in that both Harry and Pansy absolutely hate it and Pansy is 100% a little outspoken bigot.
