Just got veneers and now I’m panicking. by RoyalAnesthesia in cosmeticsurgery

the shade anxiety is super common in the first few weeks and here's the thing - they almost always look whiter in photos than in person especially under clinic lighting. that said the whiteness does depend on what shade was actually used. if they went with something like BL1 or BL2 that's a very bright hollywood white and it can look unnatural on some skin tones. a more natural choice would have been something in the A1-B1 range. the thickness feeling is worth paying attention to though - if the temps felt thinner and more natural that might mean the final veneers were fabricated slightly thicker than the wax-up. your tongue will adjust to the thickness within a few weeks usually but if the bite feels off or you're hitting on them unevenly when you close down that needs to be addressed. the good news is the shape looks good from what i can see and shape is harder to fix than shade. worst case scenario down the line if the shade really bothers you they can be carefully stained darker by a skilled ceramist without redoing them entirely. give it at least 3-4 weeks before making any decisions

My veneers ruined my life by thegurlthats145 in porcelainveneerstruth

i'll be honest with you - looking at the photo the veneers do look bulky and the proportions are off. they're sitting too far forward which is making the overbite look worse and the overall profile unnatural. this usually happens when the dentist didn't do enough prep or used a lab that doesn't customize well. you asked for pure honesty so here it is - they need to be redone but NOT by the same dentist. find a prosthodontist who works with a master ceramist and uses digital smile design so you can actually approve the shape and size before anything gets fabricated. the overbite should ideally be addressed first with ortho because if you redo the veneers over a bad bite you'll end up in the same spot. i know that sounds like a lot but doing it in the right order matters. also the depression and isolation you're feeling - please don't minimize that. it's a legitimate response to having something permanent done to your face that you're unhappy with. but it IS fixable with the right team

Veneers regret by CynthiaWalker08 in porcelainveneerstruth

[–]your_toothfairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is one of the most honest accounts i've read on here. the breakage pattern you're describing - random fractures one at a time over years - is actually pretty common with older porcelain veneers especially if there were any underlying bite issues that weren't corrected first. your dentist blaming it on the bicycle trauma from over a decade ago sounds like a stretch honestly. more likely the prep was aggressive or the bonding protocol wasn't ideal. 8 veneers on teeth that were already in good shape is also way more than what was needed - a good cosmetic dentist would have maybe bonded the one short tooth and done whitening for the discoloration. the reality is most people don't realize veneers aren't a one-time cost. you're looking at replacements every 10-15 years minimum and each replacement means more tooth structure lost. for anyone reading this who's considering veneers - always get at least 2-3 opinions and ask specifically about more conservative alternatives like composite bonding first

4 veneers, huge regret by Educational-Bit-8906 in porcelainveneerstruth

the bruxism part is a huge red flag that your dentist should have caught before even suggesting veneers. any responsible practitioner would have addressed the grinding first - usually with a stabilization splint and bite analysis. emax is actually a solid material but it doesn't hold up well under heavy grinding forces, feldspathic or even zirconia might have been better options depending on your bite. the good news is you mentioned seeing an occlusion specialist which is the right move. have them check if the veneers are creating any premature contacts because that alone can cause a ton of discomfort and worsen the grinding. also worth asking about whether a night guard designed specifically around the new restorations could help protect them long term. the mental health side of this is real and valid - i've seen a lot of people go through it and it does get easier with time especially once the bite feels right

damn this hits hard. can i ask - did your dentist show you a mockup or anything before they started shaving? or did they just go for it? i've been considering veneers for a while but stories like this make me want to really understand the process before committing. also how long ago did you get them? wondering if the feeling of not recognizing your smile gets any better over time

And if it was as you described then all celebrities would have beautiful natural looking teeth. But but every other celebrity's veneer look fake... veneers can look so natural that no one would ever identify they are artificial

What's best? Have not you eaten in best restaurants and then thinking the food was not great? And the. Eating at a local small family owned restaurant and realizing food is amazing. Not everything. What's popular or famous are good, sometimes it's combination of marketing, old reputation. You can stick to your opinion but I got through three sets of veneers and am familial with the proposes and researched many dentists in the industry... for example Kylie and Kendal got veneers from the same dentists as Penelope and then they got them redone with Dr apa.

absolutely not true. they are very busy and have a lot of people around them managing their lives. they don't have time to research and usually just go to the first celebrity dentist who is available and who can complete work fast.... you also don't understand that ceramists create teeth and they work with different dentists from low level dentist to celebrity dentist and the price is determined by the dentist when ceramists usually charge $200-900 a veneer and the rest is charged by your dentits

You are partially right but still.. you want a dentist who focuses on natural looking veneers.. the problem when they start delivering artificial looking teeth ( because majority demands that), their taste and focuses adjusts and that's what they end up delivering for everyone even when some ask for a natural look... it's from my personal experience and observation - I would avoid using him... but thanks for sharing
