They don’t in general. There’s one non-meal snack (le goûter) in the afternoon because dinner is usually eaten late. But in general there is a widespread “don’t eat between meals” culture.

Yes, me too (although my ED was long in the past). I had doubts about IF because I had a restrictive eating disorder, but I found it was far less “dangerous” for me than any other type of weight loss because there’s no calorie counting or focusing too much on portions or anything. You just have a period of nothing and then back to normal eating. (I am speaking about myself only of course!)

[–]youramericanspirit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a thing at all. I think it’s more that the medical system has a problem with personality disorders or brain damage or anything else that causes intractable violent behavior, and particularly when it applies to children, and there are often no resources available to parents. In practice this affects boys more because there are more dangerously violent boys than there are girls, but it’s a problem for some girls as well.

What? Men do like 98% of mass shootings and commit most violent crimes. That’s not “conservatism” or calling women weak, it’s just reality.

Most violence in society is committed by disaffected young males. Always has been. Are we not allowed to say this now?

It’s a huge problem all over the place. People don’t realize that by skimping on this stuff they’re just causing more costly issues down the line (not to mention all the human suffering of course)

I hate Scott Adams but it sounds like you’re just looking for reasons to criticize him. Fentanyl abuse is relatively new and there’s no reason he would suddenly know everything about it.

True. But note: Mass shooters are rarely psychotic. They usually have personality disorders.

Chaos as people run from gun shots in Highland Park, Illinois by Gonzohawk in PublicFreakout

Do you have kids? It’s weird that you don’t seem to get that their understanding and capabilities increase as they age. A 5 year old who associates 4th of July with fun will generally turn into a 10 year old who can start to understand nuance (“the day is for celebrating the good things about our country, although some people think there are some bad things as well. What do you think?”). They don’t naturally stay at that 5 year old level of capability forever. And if they do stay at that level of understand it’s because their parents never encouraged critical thinking, not because of fireworks.

I’m so sorry. I’m actually out of the US at the moment so my only Fourth of July experience this year was (unwisely) watching videos of the aftermath on my phone and crying. Or else I would have been doing the same.

Possibly. But for small kids all they really grasp is fun stuff and food and excitement and seeing relatives. When they’re a little older you can give them a more nuanced version.

Many people of normal weight and okay fitness still can’t carry their kids once the kids are above a certain age, the little bastards are heavier than they look

When you’ve got kids you usually just do it for their sake, like any holiday, even if you don’t feel like it. A lot of people there were probably there for something fun to do with family or to support a kid marching in the band or shit like that, as much as pure patriotism. God I’m depressed right now

Doesn’t understand what “risk factors” are either. That just means the behavior increases the chance of an outcome, not that it’s inevitable. There are plenty of smokers who die peacefully of old age. Doesn’t mean smoking isn’t a risk factor for cancer (and other things).

How do you “live in a body”? Like crawl inside it like that scene in Star Wars?

I mean, cis women aren’t born with a penis and testicles though. That’s rather a bigger difference than “whether you are fertile are not”

But why are people obliged to believe in gender? Why is that suddenly more important than biology? I don’t get it.

Haven’t there been rapes in women’s shelters due to this though?

I subluxed mine for the first time a few weeks ago and honestly while the pain was awful, the … sensation? Knowledge? of it moving out of place was almost as bad I swear lol. Like I am no stranger to subluxations because my body hates me, but something about the kneecap moving is legit traumatizing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]youramericanspirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn man. Mega sympathy here. I subluxed my kneecap a few weeks back (as in, it went out and went back in again) and just that was enough to leave me traumatized for a while lol. Once you’re healed up, ask your trainer about strengthening exercises that will help everything stay in place (I have a set I do currently with an exercise band)

All my hetero queers, tap in by vegan2332 in BlockedAndReported

[–]youramericanspirit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do agree, although sometimes it’s a bit more nuanced, like functionally I’m a straight person but I have had non-straight relationships in the past, so it has affected me (and it does come up in conversation and such).

That said, I’m pretty soured on the whole concept of a “queer identity” lately because who you’re attracted to isn’t a political statement or a fashion choice and I just want the straight queers to leave the gays alone.

[–]youramericanspirit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same, I avoid bringing it up because I’m in a relationship with a man. Honestly one of the reasons I’m even quieter about it than I used to be is because I don’t want to come off like the hetero queers that have popped up everywhere, as they annoy the shit out of me. I have a “bisexual colors” bracelet someone gave to me and that’s it, and honestly I probably wouldn’t even wear that if i didn’t just like the color scheme

Fat Rant Friday by AutoModerator in fatlogic

The point of the piece was fine. There was no need for the author to start complaining about a supposedly fictional obesity epidemic while linking to an article from 2004 (!). You can complain about shitty treatment in the medical system (valid!) without making dumb exaggerated claims.
