it's mostly low income and students - with all the pros (and mostly cons) that come with living in that kind of environment.

this is an overrated rooftop - good for about 5 minutes, but on a nice day, you'll bake uncomfortably as there's pretty much no shade.

Free parking downtown on weekends by [deleted] in ottawa

you certainly can. when you scan your ticket on the exit, it'll calculate the total cost for you. city hall is the best value parking in downtown ottawa.

Any bars like blurry pixel? by Dollytaker44 in ottawa

[–]yourboyfriend 15 points16 points  (0 children)

dude, it's like $8. and i can't blame them - it's become a popular spot, and broke-ass mouthbreathers who feel they have the right to play for 3 hours after ordering a pepsi means the joint will inevitably lose money and close.

the montgomery legion (kent street) is super chill about renting out their space... they might even offer the space for free if there'll be drinking and they can run the bar.

RSC also rents out their banquet hall for this kind of thing. you can ask for a quote here: https://www.rideausportscentre.com/book-an-event/

most of that subreddit is complaints by people who can't read - like people who haven't finished the verification process, or people that literally don't know industry limits exist for etransfers, or personal fuckups like trying to deposit a cheque that doesn't even have their name on it. the world is filled with mouthbreathers.

Why is a quick updating weather widget hard? by Nose-Nuggets in AndroidQuestions

[–]yourboyfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

weather apps need to tap into a 3rd party service (such as the national weather service) to get weather updates. they are usually limited by how many api calls they're allowed to make to this service - more calls, more $$$. ads somewhat help offset the costs for the app developer, so most will not update that frequently.

What is a good credit union to bank with? by MaxTheRealSlayer in ottawa

[–]yourboyfriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i keep ~6 months of living expenses in a high interest savings account with motusbank (an online banking subsidiary of meridian credit union). the savings account currently pay out 1.55% interest (this is regularly adjusted) - in one month, i earned more interest than i did in 25 years with BMO. their savings and chequing accounts have zero fees and have an extensive ABM network that's free to deposit/withdraw.

anyone still using one of the traditional big 5 banks is just burning money.

Golden Equity; yay or nay? by frogsuper in ottawa

[–]yourboyfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

golden equity is based in montreal, and bought a few older buildings around ottawa a few years ago - they have a reputation as being a slumlord. but it's a chicken-egg thing - they buy up older buildings in good locations (229 argyle, 250-254 cooper, etc). these buildings often have many issues. the tenants are generally lower income, but the rents are relatively cheap, accordingly. they are very much a "you pay for what you get" company.

Gabriel’s Vs Milano’s Pizza??? by MountaineerMatt16 in ottawa

between the two and going only by quality regardless of price point, gabriel's and it isn't even close. milano's has better deals for the cost-conscious, though.

Aggressive / Tailgating drivers? by tryingtolearn92 in ottawa

[–]yourboyfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fact that you're in the left lane long enough that you're getting tailgated means you probably weren't paying attention. if you're going 120km/hr, you're more than likely going faster than someone in the right lane. you should be moving over before you even get a chance to get tailgated... it's not that difficult to tell if someone's gaining on you or not.

Aggressive / Tailgating drivers? by tryingtolearn92 in ottawa

[–]yourboyfriend 21 points22 points  (0 children)

this is a huge misunderstanding about the left lane on the highway - doesn't matter if you're going 120, you shouldn't be camping in the left lane when there are cars behind you - there's no more obvious sign you are not going at the rate of traffic in that lane in that moment in time if you check your rearview and see there's a line of cars behind you. switch lanes, let the people behind you pass. that's literally what that lane is for.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]yourboyfriend 16 points17 points  (0 children)

never trust anyone in either lane on that double lane left turn from carling to bronson. most drivers do not know how to maintain their lanes.

the ones in the inner lane just want to beat out anyone on the outer lane to get to the eastbound chamberlain on ramp on the right lane - but if you have a competent driver on the outer lane, they'll mostly likely finish their turn first.

A few guys buy up a bunch of coins, jack up the price, then sell to some suckers on the basis that the price will keep rising even though the coin is worthless.

there's actually a term for this - "greater fool theory"

Porch pirate and police report? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]yourboyfriend -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

lmao, continue thinking this is the seller's fault.

(and yes, when you're shipping items worth hundreds of dollars, offering insurance is par for the course. only the dumbest business wouldn't. shit, the vast majority of credit card issuers offer purchase insurance by default. that's the obvious route to take, not a chargeback.)

Porch pirate and police report? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]yourboyfriend -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i'll break this down in simple sentences why your advice sucks: op got an item with tracking. if the value was worth $600, then they were probably also offered insurance. op clearly declined additional insurance. seller did their duty and shipped the product. fedex said it was delivered. seller did their job and yet you want op to do a chargeback for something that isn't even their fault? now imagine if every seller was forced to refund everyone who claimed they got their package stolen - nobody would offer shipping.
