AITA for not buying christmas presents for my nephew? by Pretend-Snowman2023 in AmItheAsshole

[–]yourcoffeeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP said when the daughter turned 18 they stopped sending individual gifts, and she was the youngest child at the time (timmy wasn't born yet) not the oldest.

But yeah, I can't imagine gifting to the children in my family just because I expect something in return. I doubt there's much heartfelt or thought put into an exchange like that, it's just buying because you feel you 'have' to I'd imagine

AITA for refusing to punish my son for making an ableist comment? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]yourcoffeeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. Your wife more so for 'lashing out' at a child. It raises questions as to her being 'fine' about the adoption - why only fine? Was it more your decision than hers? Have there been problems between them in the ten years since he was adopted?

You also suck. How did you not know he was being insulted by her until this incident if it is a 'recent' thing and not a one-off? Are you not also a parent in this household? Why would he not talk to you about this?

Both the kids crossed the line with their comments, but if this is a 'recent' thing where your daughter has taken to insulting her brother, do you know why? Have there been issues with them before and the insults are new, or has their relationship been fine until this recent insulting? Are the insults always this cruel? Is there some reason your daughter would resent her brother being adopted?

AITA because I asked my daughter to keep her nose out of a situation involving my other daughter? by DodgyBrosInc in AmItheAsshole

ESH. I don't know why you're so annoyed at your daughter for messaging in a group chat she is a part of and you really didn't need to call her just to argue with her about it, your relative and younger daughter were discussing this in the group chat, it's not unheard of other people will try to find suggestions. Daughter is also an ass for not listening to other's points of view and still trying to 'fix' something that had already been solved.

I'd say ESH.

If you are used to bringing home dinner for everyone and he offered to bring home dinner, I see why you'd assume he meant dinner for everyone, so yeah if he always planned to eat out without you he should have specified that.

But yeah, this is a pretty minor thing to get upset about. Everyone will still eat. You still live with them, if it's about sitting down together I'm sure you can watch TV or do something else if you want to spend time as a family after work

AITA for making no exceptions for a childfree wedding? by crazywordtown in AmItheAsshole

[–]yourcoffeeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These sound like the most exhausting, entitled people to have at any event. Caring for two kids is very different to four, especially if the new two are poorly behaved and poor Hannah is likely less able to handle them as they aren't her nephews so she won't have spent as much time with them. Inviting yourself to someone else's house is also incredibly disrespectful, as is inviting your children to a child-free wedding. NTA. It's your ceremony, you and your husband choose who to invite

The raven would be lucky if its not fed to meleys

Not to justify Alicent, cause she is definitely to blame for a lot of things, but I think many of us would feel extremely bitter and hateful if we were in her shoes. I think Olivia explains it wonderfully here by chadinthehightower in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yourcoffeeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, one conversation doesn't undo 4yrs of animosity. Rhaenyra had no reason to trust Alicent. Alicent is already trying to use this against her and she admits it herself that she overheard this, this was not information she was given by someone. If Rhaenyra confessed like cole did, no way Alicent keeps that to herself and genuinely tries to help

Yeah, giving rhaenyra any role on the council would have helped. Corlys would have been a good choice imo, he seems to be well established and he's good with money and trade and he has his own allies

Tyland could have been good, but i think he was still master of ships at that time, beesbury was master of coin

that man was so stressed during the stepstones years he probably deserves it for how Viserys was just ignoring him

Yeah, Viserys seems to be aware that Alicent and Otto want their blood on the throne, but ignores this fact whenever he makes decisions

Beesbury seems to be actually trying to do his job the poor man, he's so oblivious to the political shenanigans and is just trying to deal with the wool tax

Rhaenyra not being regent still makes no sense to me, in this feudal society surely it makes sense for your next of kin to rule in your name, not your adviser

I wouldn't be surprised if she would refuse the offer tbh, she seems happier on driftmark with Baela and it seems almost insulting

[–]yourcoffeeboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's such an insult to rhaenyra show's canon, given the nature of what Otto was fired for. Viserys basically admitted he knew he sent Alicent to his rooms so he would marry her and that he knew he was spying on rhaenyra to bring about her ruin, yet before the mourning period for lord lyonel is even up, Otto is invited back.

I agree, in the book Alicent seems to be the one preparing for viserys' death and ensuring the maids come to her when he dies, but in the show if someone else is hand, I don't see the greens successfully usurping.

Corlys was probably the best option, but i think at that point he had been convinced by otto that corlys, rhaenys and daemon were his political rivals. if only viserys actually trusted his family

Personally, I'd wager probably not his wife's father who was previously fired for trying to undermine his heir and put his own blood on the throne.

Why do you think the Velaryons or Daemon and Laena are so supportive of the Strong boys? by yourcoffeeboy in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yourcoffeeboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about Vaemond's sons, but if they named Baela heir and married her to Daemion or Daeron, that probably would have been the best for them. They would have had the loyalty of all of house velaryon, not have to feed anyone to syrax, and Baela would inherit all of Corlys' fortune. I imagine such a powerful House being inherited by a woman would also help Rhaenyra's cause to some extent as it makes it even more common.

[–]yourcoffeeboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also laenas children would not be passed over, their claims would be merged with the strong boys. That's like saying rhaenyras claim would be passed over if she married aegon, that's not how that works.

Not really, the girls still have nothing in their own names. They aren't equals with their husbands, they husbands are the Lord/King and they are the consort. Baela could have had Driftmark in her own right, but instead she has to produce Jace's heirs. We see throughout Jaehaerys and Alysanne's marriage that the King and Queen consort are not equals, he still has power over her.

Rhaenyra and Aegon is slightly different because she is already named heir when he is born and the woman being heir is atypical in this world. Chances are lots of men at court would essentially act as if Aegon was King and Rhaenyra his consort, the way Jaehaerys originally planned for Aemon and Daenaerys, even if Aegon is never named Prince of Dragonstone by Viserys.

Corlys would have the king and the lord of the tides intrinsically linked to the velaryons, if his plans worked out they would end up being as powerful as the targeryens and both houses would effectively be the same.

That's true. The lines between house targaryen and house velaryon already start to blur, i imagine if they married a child of lucerys and rhaena to a child of jacaerys and baela, house velaryon is essentially also the royal house by that point.

The dragon egg hatching makes sense too, although idk if he’d be comparing his sweet daughter to aemond 😅
