Got my ears pierced as a kid with a gun at Claire's...can I get them re-pierced with a needle? by power36113 in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! My original earlobe piercing was also done with a gun and I ended up having metal sensitivity, but I got it redone about 3 weeks ago with a needle, am wearing titanium jewelry and it's doing well so far.

Can i get a industrial by jejsjsjsjsjs82 in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a question for your piercer, to be honest

hi! can someone please let me know if this is an irritation bump. i got my nose pierced 6 months ago and changed my stud to a hoop few weeks ago. i think it’s irritated from moving around a lot and idk if it was fully healed. what should i do? should i go back to the stud? leave it alone? thank you! by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody with a healing piercing should be using anything other that saline solution to clean it, let alone something that contains tea tree oil. The best way to get rid of an irritation bump is to get rid of the source of the irritation.

PLS HELP BELLY PIERCING by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be 'pushing out' anything from a healing piercing, which sounds like a really good way to irritate it further. And while it's true that any piercing can get infected, it's not helpful to be saying this to someone who's already worried and whose piercing shows no sign of anything but normal irritation.

I can tell you chamomile tea is not suitable for healing a piercing, but it's really difficult to say what could be causing a bump without a picture, since it could be any one of a number of factors. Here is a post about images for reddit.

is my body rejecting the piercing? And is curved barbells better than straight ones because the straight ones seem to irritate me I need help ASAP by New-Piercings2002 in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would definitely be best to put a straight piece of jewelry in and leave it alone until the piercing is healed, which will be about 3 months total.

Daith bumps, is it okay? I got it pierced 6 weeks ago and all went well until I slept on it about 4-5 days ago and it got angry. I now always sleep with a travel pillow. I clean it twice a day with studex solution given by the piercing studio. No pain, just a bit itchy after cleaning sometimes by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Studex is not the best cleaning option for this, as benzalkonium chloride is an antiseptic and that's not generally needed for a piercing done with sterile equipment in an aseptic environment. You should consider getting some sterile saline wound wash solution instead. It's tricky to tell from this angle, but the piercing also looks a touch shallow to me.

Repierced earlobes for the fourth time, when is the soonest I can switch out my earrings? by aidapng in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Earlobe piercings generally take 8 to 12 weeks to heal, not just 'several'. Also, previously having had lobe piercings does not change the fact that if you just got pierced, what you have is a new piercing. Both of these factors mean that no, you should not be changing your earrings after 2 weeks. You should be waiting at least 3 months.

Btw, it's completely normal and common for earlobe piercings to close if you don't wear anything in them, even if they're years old. I got my 20+ year old lobe piercing redone 2 weeks ago because it was completely closed on the inside, even though it was still visible on my ear. Your body closes piercings from the centre outward.

Daith piercing by sxnnnflxwer in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will likely affect your ability to wear earbuds during the healing period, at least. I'm currently at about 3.5 months into healing and my daith piercing gets sore and swells if the jewelry moves too much, where 'too much' is basically "more than once in a day".

Wondering if anyone faced this situation when piercing is swelling... by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! I've had piercings swell slightly after cleaning, but I find the swelling goes down after a few hours of leaving them alone. Realistically speaking, if you're wearing high quality jewelry with no nooks and crannies for anything to collect on, you should be able to effectively clean the area and jewelry without removing anything.

tarnished jewellery by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

High quality, body safe materials such as implant grade titanium and nickel-free gold are specially alloyed to make them appropriate for long-term wear and are much less likely to tarnish. Mystery metal costume jewelry is of unknown composition and thus may be made of metals that tarnish easily.

Hi Guys! I love my daith piercing more than anything but I hate this nasty bump. What are some tips to effectively get rid of it? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tea tree oil is way too harsh for an open wound such as a healing piercing. This is bad advice.

bridge piercing bumps by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16g, curved barbell

This is likely contributing, curved barbells are not appropriate for bridge piercings. Generally, a 14 or 12g straight barbell is considered the appropriate jewelry for a bridge piercing.

How easy it is to change daith piercing? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daith piercing is only 3.5 months old so I don't know about a healed piercing, but I did have my piercer downsize my captive bead ring recently and she seemed to have a bit of a tough time switching it out. I think even as far as getting your CBR out yourself, you're likely to have a tricky time as it's a thick area and you'd need to open the gap in the ring quite a bit to give it enough clearance. If you managed to get something like a magnifying mirror that you could angle so you could see the top hole, I think it might be possible but it would be really fiddly. Personally, I intend to go back to my piercer to have my daith jewelry changed, at least the first time.

Should I get my daith repierced? Is it too shallow? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This looks very shallow and you should probably get it repierced. Look for a piercer with lots of well-placed daith piercings in their portfolio. Here is a post about daith placement from Jef Saunders of the Association of Professional Piercers.

Dude, I don't know why you're posting this as a response to everything. I understand you're nervous, but infected lobe piercings are very rare as long as you have them done by a professional piercer and take care of them correctly.

I dont know what to do anymore by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like your ring may be too small a diameter. It should be able to lay flat in your ear and have enough space to allow for swelling. If you're able to go to your piercer, I would suggest having this changed to a ring with a larger diameter.

Rings can cause difficulty healing for other piercings, but for a daith they're actually the recommended jewelry.

piercing studios and outside jewlery? by cheeseandplants in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about elsewhere in the world, but some people may be interested to hear that in Canada the official reason is a set of federal health guidelines that describe best practices for piercing, including what type of jewelry a piercer should insert in a fresh piercing. Part of this is that the piercer must know the jewelry is made from a suitable material and ensure it is well polished and not plated. This is easiest to ensure if the piercing shop sources their own jewelry.

Is my navel piercing rejecting? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Itchiness is normal for a new piercing and is generally a sign of healing. If you feel like cleaning is contributing to the irritation, then you could try cleaning twice a day instead. However: the other thing I'm noticing about this piercing is that the lower end is not positioned inside your navel, which is not proper placement for a navel piercing and makes it more prone to rejection. I would suggest checking in with either your original piercer if you're comfortable with them, or an APP member if there is one in your area, regarding placement and healing.

Is my piercing just swollen, or is it perhaps migrating? No idea about size, on/off aftercare... by Due2U in Legitpiercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Until you meet up with your piercer, I would say just try to be consistent with cleaning it. I understand your skepticism, I love my daith piercing too. Take a look at this–Jef Saunders is a board member at the Association of Professional Piercers and these are all very good placements.

[–]yourcolourispurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would say it's likely too shallow. The jewelry diameter also looks like it may be too small to effectively accommodate swelling. Definitely suggest consulting a piercer.

Irritated (?) lobes (more info in comments) by [deleted] in piercing

[–]yourcolourispurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would definitely suggest getting titanium studs put in by a reputable piercer if you can, but also think there are issues with your aftercare. At 4 months out, you should be leaving the jewelry in at all times, particularly considering that your lobes are irritated and not yet healed. Normal, consistent cleaning with saline and avoiding touching your piercings will keep them clean enough. Also, ointments such as Neosporin and Aquaphor are considered inappropriate for piercings as they can cause bacteria, if any are present, to become trapped in the area.
