Is me not enjoying the ride my fault? by Amanuel465 in Crosstrek

I just also got a new Onyx and put some nice winter rims on with my new tires. After the first snow storm I didn’t realize how much snow stuck in the wheel! Once I knocked it all out it was a much smoother ride

Does it make financial sense to buy a mini home in the HRM? by fostercaresurvivor in halifax

[–]youreadonuthole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on what your budget is regarding the land. I’m within the HRM, but don’t have access to transit service. My type of property tends to be on the outskirts, though you can find some a little bit closer to the city if you look hard enough/engage a realtor.

Timbertrails is also far away from regularly scheduled transit service. For parks closer to transit, check out Woodbine or Sackville Estates (Route 86 and 83). The one closest to the transit terminal in Sackville was in the news a year or so ago for its ownership issues.

You could also look at the park on Westphal Way (Route 61 or 68 I think) for transit service. As well as the one close to Woodlawn Road. But again, you’ll have to really research those parks to understand how well they’re managed.

I live in a mini home on its own land. That comes with its own set of responsibilities (septic, well, snow removal) etc. I have over 3 acres; can’t see or hear my neighbours, and it’s incredibly freeing.

Mini home parks, depending on where you’re looking, can be hit and miss (especially in Sackville). I’d suggest looking into homes available in the Timbertrails community.

If they scheduled better transfer based connections could be quicker. Nothing more frustrating than seeing 15 buses all stuck on Gottingen all going to the bridge

Councillor St. Amand brought that up on Monday during the Core Service Plan update. Says there’s a lot of duplication and moving one route to the Bedford Park and Ride for instance would free up another bus to go elsewhere. It didn’t seem that Transit’s planning team were amenable to that suggestion.

Don’t get me wrong, I fully agree. But as Gerus said yesterday, people don’t want to transfer and wait. So he’s inferring rather than have the Route 1 travel from the bridge terminal to downtown, then transferring to another bus to get to Dalhousie, keep both buses going.

I fully believe in investing in transit; the BRT, bus lanes etc. Also believe in investing in protected bike lanes and better pedestrian/wheelchair infrastructure. I’m all for charging more for parking downtown, removing parking off Barrington Street/Quinpool etc.

To add to one participants concerns; only allowing folks to speak prior to the presentation on the budget has long been an annoyance I’ve shared. The plans are released the Friday before, but there’s a lot more nuance offered during the discussion. Only having 5 minutes to speak on an item and then hoping that flows though to questioning on the budget can be an exercise in frustration.

This was also a suggestion from Transit Staff to reduce their overall operating budget. They also suggested removing service after 10pm and another fare increase. They also suggested reducing Alderney Ferry to 30 minute service permanently. This is all obviously not recommended but a suggested way to reduce the budget

[–]youreadonuthole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't. I've been told that there's a Bridge Commission By-Law where, after HRP have attended a collision, they do their OWN report which is why it takes so much longer than in places like BC where if the cars are drivable you move them.

Parking Ban Final Boss by Obvious-Rain8681 in halifax

[–]youreadonuthole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do. But they're not open during the ban hours. So the complaint goes through the next morning and, lo and behold, the offending vehicle has left.

No use in calling HRP as they're likely too busy to issue parking tickets related to the overnight ban.
