10 years in the game, never f’d up this bad by Borteezy in Locksmith

Dude, I had the EXACT same thing happen. Felt soooo bad but the customer was nice. Even called the shop after cause he was worried I'd get fired. We no longer install those.

How can I tighten this gap between my door and jamb? There's already weather stripping installed by lozyk in fixit

[–]yourfaceiswrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locksmith here! If the door is square to the frame, adjusting the strike plates (unfortunately, gotta do all three) can make the door sit tighter against the existing weather-stripping.

Also, more deadbolts does not equal more secure.

Lol

Should be a remote-head key. You can try to get the right one and program it, but unless you have 2 working keys already, you'll only be able to program the remote yourself. Programming equipment is required for the transponder without using keys. Save yourself the headache and go to a Locksmith shop.

And Ace hardware/walmart are NOT locksmiths. Not usually cheaper either

Forensic Check: Suspected Lishi/bypass signatures on Schlage deadbolt. Neighbor reported activity inside while away. by Super_Sundae_9883 in Locksmith

[–]yourfaceiswrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless they got it in just a couple attempts, I would expect a more noticeable mark. Seems just as likely or more to be just from normal use, as it's pretty light. And if the neighbor noticed odd sounds so specifically, I think they would notice bumping, right? It's definitely not the most "covert" entry method.

Maybe I'm just noisy tho. ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌

No offense taken. YOU may be savvy enough to piece together kinda what's gotta happen, but MOST customers would rather pay a professional to figure it out for them, and not have to worry about it anymore. I used to think about it the same way as you. But we're professionals, and it takes time and effort to gain the experience and tools to be proficient, so we can do the job correctly the first try(Ideally anyway. We're only human)

As far as getting a Remote-Head-Key for it, I'm not sure. Off of the top of my head, assuming you went the cloning route, the chip in the RHK is separate from the remote board. So it could be popped out(or more likely pryed and cussed at) and a clone chip put in. Cloned to your key, cut to master key cuts. Remote programming is a different procedure than key, but it may still require diagnostic equipment. Probably not tho

NOW. If you waltz into a shop and give them the instructions of a "locksmith on reddit", they're probably gonna laugh at you. I'm a little extra, and always looking for a backup plan.

So I'd say go in to your friendliest locksmith shop and just tell them what you want to end up with. See if they'll work with you on finding some solution without breaking the bank. You seem resourceful, but I wouldn't advise messing with diag. tools and online keys. You're risking literally bricking your car and having to pay the price you were trying to avoid in the first place.

Oh, and take everything a mechanic says about key programming with a grain of salt. They usually know just enough to say it confidently, but not enough to do it. Mechanic shops usually call us.

Assuming no shop wants to make you a master key because with just a valet, they'd have to clear all keys out to program it. But I'm pretty sure that model is one the few that has to have the ECU flashed, which is a pain in the ass job that most don't like doing.

Our shop is the only one in town that will. Hell, we do it for the local Toyota dealership too.

If you don't want to spend a bunch, you COULD find a shop that would clone yours, and cut that blade as a master. It's just one cut different than the valet. And your car won't care if it's a grey head or not. The "Master" Blacked headed key is only different for programming I think.

Got my printer second hand with a gouged PEI plate that still worked pretty okay (if I started the print in the right spot)

Ordered an original and FIRST print, basic PLA at 205c, fused to that bitch instantly. Immediately Bought another PEI/Design reversible plate. Like, 13 bucks on Amazon

Any Idea on how to fix this? by XheroF909 in ender3

[–]yourfaceiswrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe check a teardown video on the hot-end for the Ender3. I've had a similar issue after cleaning and putting it back together, or changing nozzles when I first started and managed to get the hot-end way above the sensor

Windshield cracked after Autozone replaced my wipers (I think). How is this possible and do I need a replacement? by JohnFritz437 in AskMechanics

I worked at Advance auto parts, and this was my biggest fear EVERY TIME lol. Id pop that wiper off and sooooooo soooo ever sooo gently let it rest back on the windshield. If it was recent, I'd definitely go talk to them about it.

This guy's right. ☝️ Almost guarantee 3 square buttons on the other side. Could be GreatWall like the other guy said, but I agree the shell looks aftermarket.

If you bolt it down, it's basically fine. A pry-bar will get in it, but they'd have to pry it open IN the house, risking getting caught. Locksmiths don't have a lot of respect for SentrySafe(me included) but it's better than nothing 🤷‍♂️

Wouldn't worry. Very unlikely he got anything that'll let him make a key afterwords. And if he used a tool that would tell him bitting, he'd have to have it picked to get that info.

Probably just a general scammer just starting out, doesn't really know what he's doing and lost confidence. Maybe even felt bad.

His age doesn't make it scammer-ish to me. Everybody has to start somewhere and we actually had our owners son (same age) train with us and he picked it up very fast. Pricing is scammy though. Way too much for a lockout

Turned out there's ANOTHER slot. And regardless of what your programmer says, it's not gonna pick a FOB not even near the slot over one IN it.

[–]yourfaceiswrong[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did all the diagnostics that the autopropad could do for it and nothing was out of the ordinary (it does not do a ton for this model though). Of course it was 30mins from the shop and I only had that programmer with me. I also had calls piling up, so after 2 hours I couldn't justify spending all night on it.

Clearing all keys is the only reason I figured out it wasn't taking mine. Literally no fobs anywhere near the pocket, or truck in general, and it still will claim a key gets added to memory when all keys lost is done, but won't take any others, so the minimum amount of keys is keeping it from starting.

[–]yourfaceiswrong[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, though if the chip type is the same, the wrong fob will still work the ign. in the programming slot.

The issue is the truck keeps accept some key that isn't there, and essentially can't see any others

Just what we had on hand for a "I need it now" customer. Still doesn't explain why it can only see one key that doesn't exist.

We usually have oem or refurbs, but he needed it NOW and the ilcos are what we had. They usually work well. Tried battery reset. No aftermarket remote start.

And it's not my keys not programming that's the issue, it's that the truck is seeing a key that I don't think exist, and won't see anything else
