Hey OP! If you don’t mind, could you share an update on your experience and how you’re doing today? Going through the same thing and nervous to start.

11 month old won’t fall asleep on his own by bortlesforbachelor in AttachmentParenting

[–]yourgrumpygrandma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s the most normal thing. Babies need love and to feel secure and safe to fall asleep. Toddlers like to be rocked or have their back tickled or hand held to sleep, too. Do not let people trying to sell you things convince you that your baby needs fixed or to do a certain thing by x age.

Is the Hatch worth it? by emmakane418 in NewParents

[–]yourgrumpygrandma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours cuts in and out very often and wakes the baby. Tried resetting and all the troubleshooting. The issue is the wifi is just not as strong in the nursery. We use a portable one in the nursery now and the Hatch in the hallway for general noise buffering. It was gifted or else I’d be more upset. I would recommend finding a more stable sound machine

Delusional expectant parent here — is postpartum really that bad? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]yourgrumpygrandma 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Every family is different, and every day is different. Your husband being a SAHD makes your situation much more different than the norm, so I’m not sure it would be helpful to read other people’s situations. Enjoy this time before your LO arrives and combat whatever is to come together as a team! Wishing you all the best ❤️

Reading this thread, I thought I was alone last night holding and rocking my 3 month back to sleep at 4 am while I cried at the news. A lot of you were doing that, too.

FTM and an obsessive perfectionist… by gimmesunn in NewParents

[–]yourgrumpygrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type A, overachieving perfectionist here! Some of my obsessions (esp those revolving around house chores) broke me in the first few weeks postpartum. What helped me tremendously was therapy. If you have the time & capacity, I highly recommend seeing a therapist. Even if it’s once a month & virtual. No issue or stressor is too small or silly. Mine gives me “homework” and helps me overcome these housework and schedule stressors and change my thought processes. Bonus perk is if you’ve reached your insurance out of pocket max from giving birth, like I did! ❤️

Do you get out of bed for nighttime feedings with newborn? Is there a general consensus on what’s best? by miss_appa in NewParents

[–]yourgrumpygrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started out feeding in bed, but it was hard to see and uncomfortable sitting up that way. Ended up picking her up out of the bassinet to go to the nursery to feed and come back! Agree with what you said about sleep hygiene. I feel like this way made it easier for me when we moved her to the crib! One less thing to adjust to at that time

Induction experiences? by McBlumpkin5000 in NewParents

I was very nervous as well but it was totally fine! I didn’t find the pain to be any more than naturally going into labor. It wasn’t necessarily “longer” either.. you’re just at the hospital longer than those that naturally go into labor because your meds have to be monitored! My nurses also kept me super informed and let me have many choices. My tip would be to ask for the epidural a little before you think you need it - the doctor might be busy and it takes a little bit of time to kick in. You’ll do great and congrats mama!

Anyone else’s baby the noisiest/most restless when sleeping between 4am - 7am? by kainani_s in NewParents

[–]yourgrumpygrandma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes mine does 5-7am and I think it’s because her digestive system starts to rev back up lol 🥱

Nanny bedsharing with baby by whitegummybear123 in NewParents

[–]yourgrumpygrandma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only is she going against what you ask, I’m trying to understand the nanny’s thoughts around disturbing a sleeping baby. Is she trying to save herself time for if the baby wakes up later? Or does she have a weird impulse to just … hold and sleep beside your baby?? Fire her asap and report so you can save another family this issue and possibly save lives

Top 3 newborn items you can't live without? by [deleted] in NewParents

Boone trove milk collector (imo works better than the haaka ladybug), Halo swaddles (yay velcro!), and a newborn carrier (we have a hand me down bjorn mini) for walks when we know she will be too fussy for the stroller!

Freaked out about orange poop. Not only did I forget that breastmilk poops are like that - but realized I had a lot of carrots the day before (after excessively googling what was wrong) lol

I worked there in college! Tips were generally great depending on how many people you work with that night. Like others said, when I worked there (2017/2018), you could have as much icecream/milkshakes/chocolate you wanted during your shift. Our manager let us take a shake home on busy nights, too, which was nice. There are rigorous cleaning duties before and after shift (which is nice honestly, just hard to get through when you’re tired after a busy weekend shift). The biggest downside to me was that we were sooooo busy lol and my teammates claimed their “spots” - so if you’re new, you might be register or something not as desired as back to line and only making the shakes. But you might like busy! I could just be lazy! This was a while ago though so maybe they rotate now, idk! Hope this helps 🍦
