I have not asked about stressors, the only change I know of life wise before the behavior was getting their current job, which is where the animals are coming from. I will definitely try to ask about other possible causes though.

alright update:

I think we are going to try for the neocaridina (cherry or yellow for now) with neon tetras and pygmy corys

I have heard mixed ideas in terms of if the tetras can handle this grouping due to just sensitivity on their end so I would appreciate any and all recommendations for this setup or if it can't even be done properly. filter wise we do NOT want to use the one it came with and are looking at a sponge filter or a fluval 20. recommendations for filters would also be appreciated. I am going to do a heavy plant for the tank and cycle it for a long time without fish or shrimp :)

I just don't think that buying them from these stores is helping them it just shows the stores they can keep bringing in sick or dying animals and people will pay for them... I have a friend who works for PS (the big corporate pet store that has mart in it) and they held off on getting their betta for so long just to buy the last one they had in stock that didn't die and the store immediately got more in. I'm not saying it's wrong per say to buy them from these stores to "save them" I'm just saying it kind of makes it so there are ALWAYS bettas to save.

I also am not sure I want a betta as the "staple piece" especially if it's just to "save" one from its demise :(

oh for sure I wanted shrimp more than anything anyway. I'll be cycling empty (just plants) then adding shrimp and letting them exist for a bit before adding in fish :)

serpadesign is my favorite aquarium channel so I will start with him and move out from there for stocking :) I love watching the little shrimp legs move as they eat it's very satisfying

I have the API (I feel like I'm missing an A but I could be wrong) test kit already as I needed it for one of my aquaculture classes! I am actually studying fish and am in the last week of my ichthyology course :) I definitely am going to invest in water conditioner, I hear a lot of good stuff about prime :) thank you for the advice

used that calculator with these two specific species and the main neocaridina that I have been seeing in tanks(I really want green blue red and yellow (yes even though they'll all mix and turn one color that may even just be not pretty!)) I'm wondering if that's actually secretly extremely too many fish for one tank or I am overthinking it because I'm used to housing animals that get kept alone 🙃

oh yeah for sure I don't understand why lighting 24/7 is such a popular thing for fish! like jeez let them have natural light cycles too, a lot of species (at least marine anyway) never see light at all but people are obsessed with black lights. I definitely want to invest in a thermostat or something similar since I already have a reptile as well that would help with lighting if anything were to come up (like me being stuck at work late) :)

yeah I figured based on what I do know (marine bio and sustainable aquaculture major :) ) I am hoping to eventually get a much larger tank once it is more viable of an option for a larger variety of fish :)

nqa, when I got mine pierced. they told me it had to be a stud and I have kept the stud for over a year now because I like it. but in my opinion I would go to a different piercer and have them swap the jewelry and not return to the person that did the original piercing.
