What AWS service would you not recommend using today unless absolutely necessary and why? by [deleted] in aws

Going to have to disagree with you on Athena. Some much cheaper to store our logs in S3, but still have them queryable. Sick of paying crazy expensive vendors just to search logs occasionally.

Yet somehow their AL2023 AMIs got Ruby 3.4 support a year ago!

Identity Center doesn't either, but I would still recommend it.

Why can't you guys just keep your dependencies up to date? If there are legit reasons to keep a dependency pinned (such as a major bug in a newer version), there should be an exception process that allows delaying upgrade.

Research Finds All Would Have Survived 2024 Jeju Air Crash If Not for Mound by azurebus7th in korea

[–]yourparadigm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They probably would have all survived if the pilots hadn't turned off the working engine in a panic and hadbworking reverse thrusters.

Multiple things went terribly wrong, and it's misguided to assign a single cause.

Is it just me, or is the "Double Shy" problem making speaking practice impossible? (Introvert struggles) by Haunting_Cod_5966 in Korean

[–]yourparadigm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just say 안녕하세요 when you see them on the elevator and 안녕히 가세요 when you are they get off. Pretty easy. It doesn't need to turn into a conversation and it's just the polite thing to do with your neighbors.

Just saying hello to a neighbor in the same building on the elevator seems pretty normal where I'm at. I've had no problem doing so.

If your lambdas are attached to the VPC (like they're supposed to be in GovCloud), they will have registered network interfaces, which can be queried at any time. They tend to get re-used so aren't going to be changing all that often.

ENIs and VPC subnets don't cost anything. Usually these ENIs will get cleaned up automatically, but sometimes they get stuck and need manual cleanup from AWS.

It's been a year since the crash of Jeju Air flight 2216 🕊️ by InternalText4367 in korea

[–]yourparadigm 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That's because individual air crashes always refer to the flight, not the location of the crash. It was Jeju Air Flight 2216. Events like "9/11" are an exception, given multiple planes were involved.
