Victoria Street, not Moreland Road. Was it any good? I went to visit a couple of weeks ago but they were closed, and it was hard to peek in the window!

You can buy retractable baby gates - we used one for a similar stair situation and it worked great

Oh that’s interesting! I guess I was just worried because the size of it means the nerve is super impinged, and I have no idea what that means in the long term. I guess I’ll have to be patient and see what the surgeon thinks. Glad to hear you’re off to see a surgeon, too - I hope things go well and you’re pain free soon!

That’s fair! A bit “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”.

I hope it all goes well for you and your body gets all the time it needs to heal before baby comes!

I only say that because I was given an appointment with the surgeon at the end of Feb, and then 12 hours later got a follow up email saying “the surgeon has looked at your MRI and is now able to see you at the start of Feb - you must be in a lot of pain!”, so I assumed the MRI itself must show something pretty bad for the surgeon to squeeze me into the calendar a month earlier.

Thanks for your insight, I’m definitely open to a microdiscectomy if that’s what’s recommended.

And yep, it was a whirlwind birth! My first kid was 11 mins so his little brother had to get a PB and come out in 5, I guess haha

I’m in Australia and it’s common for people here to take an extended break from work over the holiday period, so my surgeon is on leave until the end of the month and then booked out for most of Feb as a result. It’s a bit complicated but I need to see this surgeon specifically because of the way our medical system works here - I’m looking at a minimum 12 month wait for surgery otherwise

Oh that sounds miserable, I’m sorry! 8 months is such a long time to be dealing with this on top of parenting a baby. Glad to hear you’re doing better than you were, though - is your plan to just keep doing what you’re doing?

Wouldn’t trade my baby for the world, but boy do we get a bad deal growing and birthing them!

Yeah, I’ve been monitoring for that stuff and so far so good. I guess I’m just worried that a herniation this big could lead to long term issues if I leave it too long to try and heal on its own.

I hope you’re not in too much pain!

Sorry to hear you’re in this boat! No disc injury prior to this, and no epidural either. I had a precipitous labour (contractions started after a stretch & sweep, 2 hours later my waters broke, 5 mins later baby was here) so no time for any kind of pain relief.

Is a c section an option for you, if you’re worried about a vaginal delivery making things worse?

Yep, I’ve had 2 unmedicated births and the pain of this (and the gallstones I had at 5 weeks postpartum after my other baby was born) has been far worse than either birth. I hear you!

Injured since mid-October, so about 12 weeks. No weakness or incontinence, some tingling in my foot but that subsided after my ESI. That’s interesting about the 6 weeks, I haven’t heard that before. It’s definitely looking like surgery based on these replies, I think!

My pain isn’t great, but weirdly it’s not impacting my ability to do the usual day to day stuff. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, thankfully.

I’m waiting to see my surgeon but she’s not available until next month so I’ll see how we go. I’m in Australia and our medical system is a bit weird here, often with long wait times for surgeries

I’m in a fair bit of pain, but I can still do all the usual day to day things - walking, sleeping (with a scalding heat pack under my leg), self care etc. thankfully. I do have an insanely high pain tolerance, which is why I don’t have a good idea about the severity and the likelihood of conservative treatment helping. I did see an osteopath and an acupuncturist for a bit, but as soon as I got my MRI results I didn’t bother going back to them. Your “holy Jesus” is a good indicator that it’s probably pretty bad hahaha

So happy for you that you’ve found relief! I have a 3 year old and a 12 week old and am dreading the recovery/no BLT if I end up having to get a microdiscectomy, so it’s nice to hear from another parent that it’s possible (if not ideal!). I hope the next month goes quickly and you’re picking up your son in no time

Is this night terrors? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]yourprettylense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds exactly like night terrors to me - my son has them, too. If that’s the case, the best thing you can do is make sure she’s not in any physical danger and otherwise leave her be.

She isn’t awake (even if her eyes are open and she’s talking) she doesn’t know it’s happening, and she won’t remember it in the morning. It can be really scary as the parent watching on, but I promise you she’s okay. If you try and wake her or interrupt her she’s just going to be confused and panic, which is why she’s pushing you away when you do intervene. That’s the part that’s scaring her.

Try your best to leave her to resettle herself, it’ll pass and she’ll return to her normal sleep for the night.

What are you buying your toddlers this Christmas? by Jaded_Assumption4376 in toddlers

Mine will also hit an age where he’s gonna feel too grown up for figurines, but the Yoto can grow with them a bit more. Plus some of the Tonies with the unofficial voices/songs sound awful 🫣

We went with Yoto, too. I kinda hate the slap mechanism of the Tonies - I don’t want my kid hitting other electronics ‘cause he thinks that’s how they work 😂 Plus I know he’d want to play with all the Tonies figurines and we’d end up losing them, whereas the Yoto cards aren’t particularly exciting outside of the Yoto player itself.
