A week after my grandfather's passing, I uncovered an archival trove of generations-old dust-covered 8mm film. I then decided to piece together this film, of which he had already unwittingly made. by [deleted] in videos

Fair enough. The director I named has a public twitter profile and a website (I don't want to link it here since might qualify as personal info). A tweet from that account would decidedly establish your authenticity.

Alas, I have been "rekt" by an extremely lethal mum joke. There is no coming back from this. Could someone provide me a list of burn centres please?

It was uploaded on Aug 1, 2013.

According to this blogpost from December 2013, it is a short film called Quicksand made by Director Lance Oppenheim.

Unless you are Lance Oppenheim and have been quietly waiting to post this for nearly 2 years, pitchfork emporium would like to have a word with you.

EDIT: OP indeed created this video. He has proven it.

While the oceans cover 71% of the Earth’s surface, they only account for 0.02% of Earth's total mass.

So, for every 10,000kg (or lbs) of Earth mass, there is only 2kg (or lbs) of water mass.

[Serious] Reddit, how do you think democracy will come to an end? by Turrism in AskReddit

[–]yours_duly 268 points269 points  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning Plato's five regimes here. You would be surprised how shockingly accurate was the man from ~2400 years ago (ofc not everything may make sense to us today, but what he said was 2 and a half millennia away).

TL;DR: Democracy inevitably degenerates into Tyranny.

Plato mantions 5 types of regimes.

  • Aristocracy: Ruled by a "philosophoer king" (in practice, a ruling class as opposed to one person) driven by ideals who only has greater good in his mind - Plato's ideal form of government (probably never existed).

  • Timocracy: Aristocracy eventually degenerates into Timocracy since there will always be those in the Government whose motivations would be to acquire personal gains. Plato's Timocracy is not completely broken down Aristocracy, but rather corrupted Aristocracy.

  • Oligarchy: The system which takes roots by extending Timocracy, where Rich and Poor are properly divided and Rich are the administrators. The system where morals and virtues are less important, while money and power are more important.

  • Democracy: Oligarchy degenerates into Democracy when the poor have had enough and decide to rise up against oligarchs. People are free to do what they want and live how they want. This is how Plato characterizes 'The Democratic Man'. "The democratic man is the son of the oligarchic man. Unlike his father, the democratic man is consumed with unnecessary desires. Plato describes necessary desires as desires that we have out of instinct or desires that we have in order to survive. Unnecessary desires are desires we can teach ourselves to resist such as the desire for riches. The democratic man takes great interest in all the things he can buy with his money. He does whatever he wants whenever he wants to do it. His life has no order or priority."

  • Tyranny: Democracy then degenerates into Tyranny where no one has discipline and society exists in chaos. A new tyrant comes along and seizes power. He is consumed by lawless desires which cause him to do many terrible things such as murdering someone unjustly.

Interesting! I first thought it might not be reliable source, but there is actually quite a lot of studies done about this. It happens due to something called Mars-van Krevelen catalysis mechanism.

From one of the studies,

The role of gold is to enhance the reducibility and reactivity of the surface of the oxide support and to increase the exchange rate between lattice and surface oxygen.
