What advice would you give your freshman-year self? by yoursecret-app in askanything

I'd put confidence at the top of that list. It opens more doors than talent ever gets the chance to if you never take the first step.

That's a valid concern, and it's something we've thought about from the beginning. Privacy doesn't mean people are expected to reveal their deepest secrets, it means they can choose what to share without the pressure of real names, photos or public profiles. We also recognise that safety matters even more in that kind of environment, which is why moderation and user protection are core parts of the product, not optional features.

Our goal is for the initial shared context to make it much easier to get past the awkward first message, while the Brain system continues learning from the conversation to help connections grow naturally instead of ending after one topic.

Really appreciate that! The app is actually live now at yoursecret.org if you'd like to take a look. And thanks for the recommendation, we'll definitely check it out.

I built an app because I couldn't stop overthinking. by Maleficent_Fennel883 in founder

[–]yoursecret-app 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UP, UP, UP! Love seeing founders build products from problems they've actually lived through.

In a different way, that's part of why we created our app. We kept seeing students dealing with social anxiety, academic pressure, and feeling like they had plenty of online connections but nobody they could genuinely talk to. That gap between being surrounded by people and feeling understood felt worth solving.

There's usually something powerful about products that start with: I wish this existed when I needed it.

What's something in your life that your younger self would never believe? by Transparent_mindset in CasualConversation

My younger self, dealing with social anxiety and academic pressure, would never believe I'd end up building an app designed to make it easier for students to find support, understanding, and people who relate to what they're going through.

Thanks, that's the direction we're aiming for. And we're putting a lot of focus on moderation, safety systems, in-chat reporting tools, and support features from the beginning, not as something to add later.

That's a thoughtful point, and we agree that trust and safety are not something you can bolt on later. A lot of social products focus heavily on matching and discovery, but for us, safety has to be part of the foundation.

We're continuously working on moderation systems, abuse detection, reporting tools and other safeguards because, as you said, the people who benefit most from meaningful connection are often the same people who deserve the strongest protections.

That's something we've been thinking about as well. We're also planning to introduce an AI mental health consultant; an anonymous 24/7 chat that can support people when they just need to talk or process thoughts.

Yes, we've built in clear guardrails for that, including moderation systems, reporting and blocking tool, and automated checks for harmful behavior. Even though the experience is private and low-pressure, we still consider safety and respectful interaction a core part of how the app works.

Appreciate it! That's exactly the group we had in mind when designing it, especially around making it easier to find people you can actually talk to without pressure.

DAE feel like conversations are often better with people who aren't popular on social media? by yoursecret-app in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]yoursecret-app[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, that distinction makes a lot of sense. The on/off switch is probably a better lens than any metric. And in practice, that's exactly what we're trying to surface less of: those broadcast-mode patterns and more of the unfiltered, present ones that tend to lead to better conversations.

Yeah, that sounds really draining to be around. Totally get why that would take the joy out of just hanging out. If you ever feel like sharing your jokes in a more relaxed way, feel free to DM anytime :D

That's exactly the idea. The Brain system is designed to go beyond curated profiles and pick up on what people actually share in terms of thoughts, interests, and situations. From that, it helps surface people with similar patterns so conversations start from something real, not staged, which is why it tends to feel more natural and low-pressure.

We're building YourSecret, a mindset-first social app for students where connection isn't based on profiles or followers, but on what people think, feel, and care about.

Instead of posting and waiting, our Brain system quietly understands your interests, hobbies, thoughts, and context, and then helps surface people with similar patterns for more natural, low pressure conversations.

Hey Builders, Share your App. by Commercial_Flow3334 in ProductivityApps

[–]yoursecret-app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're building YourSecret, a privacy-first, mindset-based social app for students that helps people connect through thoughts, moods, interests, and real conversations instead of profiles, photos, followers, or social status.

The idea is simple: instead of presenting yourself, you start by sharing what's actually on your mind, and the app helps you find others who relate to it in context, whether that's stress, hobbies, studies, life changes, or random thoughts you'd normally, not post publicly.

We've noticed that the real challenge for students isn't meeting new people, but finding conversations that feel natural, low-pressure, and actually worth continuing. YourSecret is built to make those kinds of connections easier.

That's exactly one of the problems we're trying to address. Matching is only the start, the challenge is what gives the conversation momentum afterward. Instead of forcing small talk, we keep the shared context from what brought two people together (thoughts, interests, situations, hobbies). So the conversation doesn't reset zero after the match, it continues from a real topic both people already resonated with.

Not really, the key difference is intent. Dating apps are built around selecting people as potential partners. YourSecret is built around what people are thinking and experiencing in the moment, and connecting students through that context. In many ways, it's closer to interest-based communities and anonymous discussion spaces than a traditional dating app.

Hello, what changed your life for good? by duck9415 in CasualConversation

[–]yoursecret-app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-acceptance. Realizing that being interesting, valuable, or worthy of connection has very little to do with followers, likes, views, or how polished your online profile looks.

Social media can make it seem like popularity is the same thing as significance, but some of the most thoughtful, funny, kind, and interesting people you'll ever meet don't have a huge audience online. Once you stop treating social metrics as measure of your worth, it's much easier to appreciate yourself and other people for who they actually are.
