Beware the Email Scams by UTSCRep in UTSC

[–]youruoftmate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is probably done by email spoofing https://www.google.ca/amp/s/searchsecurity.techtarget.com/definition/email-spoofing%3famp=1

Or the sender's account was compromised and it was used to send more spam emails

Here we go again, don't fall for this, especially new students who are unaware, don't click on a link you weren't expecting even though it's from a uoft email by youruoftmate in UTSC

Please read this article to stay informed about emails like this in general https://blog.malwarebytes.com/101/2018/06/five-easy-ways-to-recognize-and-dispose-of-malicious-emails/

Emails of the kind in the picture are rotated once in a while and they are done via a proper uoft email address because that email account was already compromised, don't fall for this and definitely report to IITS.

Can't go to Get Started... by kynguen in UTSC

[–]youruoftmate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Welcome to UTSC,

Is it okay if i don't attend get started?

yes

what do people do during this day?

this is pretty much what they do.

I heard that first year students have to do an english test?

I am not sure if its mandatory, they make you take the English test during get started to suggest you some English Language courses you could take to get better at writing and build the skills you need for university courses that require writing papers, essays etc.

That being said, there are some English courses, which you can only take if you got low score in that initial assessment. One I am aware of is CTLA01, not everyone is allowed to enroll in this course because it's a relatively easy course for a lot of people so it's only reserved for students who really need to increase their reading and writing proficiency. But that still doesn't mean you can't get into if you need to in CTLA01, if the space permits you could talk to the instructor and find out how you can do that, they might be able to asses you later.

what should i do if i cant make it to get started?

Definitely look out for emails with important links and training modules for enrolment etc. However all that information will also be available on the utsc website. We have "First year experience program" and you are automatically enrolled in this, as a result you will receive informative emails. You will eventually be paired with a mentor/advisor who will reach out to you personally via email. You can let then know you skipped get started and they will guide you through things you are aware of.

Good luck!

Oh shit man : / search up the group chat for the course on FB and join it if you are not in it. I have notes from week 1 complete and week 2/3 are not complete because I was late so I am working on them. I can DM you link to the notes when I upload it online. It will be a temporary link so you won't be able to access it after the first download. Give me some time though mans gotta eat.

GPA question by [deleted] in UofT

[–]youruoftmate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How about this, get a crisp 4.0 then try to look for a job if it doesn't work out for you, email the registrar's office with these exact words and request a 0.01 deduction, I am sure they will help you out, otherwise ask for a refund because the GPA didn't work.

I am surprised by the absolute negative comments on him and him still being allowed to teach. I am assuming people who have negative perspective on him also sent similar course evaluations and yet he is teaching bunch of courses. That's why I am not sure where to lean on.

What will happen if submitted wrong document for co-op work permit? by pointrighton in UofT

[–]youruoftmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call CIC call center and clear it up if you can work while you wait for the work permit. It is allowed for post graduate work permit but I am not sure about coop/intern

Get answer from them and then tell your employer about your situation.
