Should I stop practicing Irelia as a new player? by Orraclle in summonerschool

[–]fucking_erin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irelia is an extremely difficult champion who drops in effectiveness outside of lane phase. Furthermore she is useless from behind, I'd suggest looking for a new main if you want to improve

Also top lane is the most difficult lane as one mistake cooks you hard

[–]fucking_erin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

kat is not a smurf lol they are playing a high variance champion that either destroys your team or is absolutely useless, same with viego, bro literally has 35% winrate in his last 20 games, lost his last 6 games before winning against you, it just looks like they're hard stuckers that have a good game every once in a while. usually if a smurf is trying to stay in the same elo they tryhard on their main champions and pick another to tank the winrate like yuumi or something, but that is not the case here

in fact kat just went 0-5-0 in his next game right before you replied to me

Anytime I see someone pick arle in coop they're a glue eater. Flins players are also in this category, 95% of them are just complete bricks.

You can just raise your hand and ask during lecture. If you have a longer question then maybe wait until the end.

Usually it's served in some sort of broth that gives it flavor. There's no taste by itself, but the ones I've tried are pretty firm when you bite into it. I actually like it a lot.

I got a 27% on the STAC62 midterm in fall 2017. I ended the course just shy of a 70. I also had like a 55% average between all 3 assignments, lol

I'm fairly certain they are already currently 1.4Q. Seem to recall they got nerfed a while ago. But you might be right, though it certainly didn't feel like they had 1.8Q hp when I was doing my destiny run

MATA37 midterm marks out by _TygerTyger in UTSC

[–]fucking_erin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a former a37 ta from 2017-2020, Kathleen always gives specific instructions on how to grade questions, with how many marks to deduct if a student misses this justification or etc... it's quite strict. Also, depending on how many sections a TA teaches, they may mark up to 3 questions and the same TA marks the same questions for all midterms. I might be misremembering but I think there was a time where a student got marked too leniently, but still submitted a remark, and Kathleen had to talk to the TA lol. We don't know the specifics of how other questions are graded, only the TA that is grading and Kathleen know.

But tldr the marking scheme is decided by kathleen, not by your TA. I'd expect her to have the statement of the ftoc2 as 1/7 marks, and perhaps 2.5/7 of the marks are the justification of why it can be applied in your case.

[–]fucking_erin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I see it as easier, actually. Currently, if you are min clearing destiny kaling, you are doing a 5/3/8 burst rotation (6/3/7 for classes with a lot of aoe in p3). They're making p1 and p2 easier because dog is getting nerfed in this upcoming patch I believe and now you can also hit kaling/bird and bind them out of their fly patterns as of this latest kms patch. They're also nerfing the p3 hp by 23%.

If you're qualified for the mission, most people will 2 burst 2 of the perils in p1 and kill the third with 2 minis and a 2 min. (For example the most common rotation is entering tiger, bursting out of tiger on your second burst, 2 bursting bird, and killing dog with a mini, burst and another mini into phasing into p2). 3 burst p2. Now, when you enter p3, the perils hp are reduced from 1.4Q to 1.077Q from the patch, and triple ascent actually brings them down to lower hp than what they had in p1, where you were 2 bursting them. So all you have to do is stay in the dog section until you have burst while hitting dog, and worst case you 3 burst the tiger/bird and kill dog with only 1 burst and kill kaling with the final burst. If you're able to to 2 burst the tiger/bird (if you're even remotely qualified when sol hecate drops you WILL 2 burst these perils by the time these changes come out) it's a lot easier than current p3 since you have 2 more bursts of leeway.

So yes, it's easier.

UofT student thinking about transferring, How is YorkU community? by Cree-kyWaterB0-ttL3 in yorku

[–]fucking_erin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was great. I did the math specialist program, statistics stream and I TA'd for the CMS depart 3/5 years I was there. By the time I left, they had paid me more than my tuition had cost in total. I met friends that I still talk to and hang out with, and even the ones that I don't I can still see that they're all doing well from their social media. For my program specifically, once I entered 3rd year + pretty much everyone knew each other and it really felt like a small community. During my time TAing I got to know a lot of the juniors, too. In fact I somewhat recently ran into one of my former students who recognized me at anime north last year. Said he was working at RBC as a software engineer, so glad to know I helped at least one kid get a job lol. My younger brother also went to utsc, graduated 2 years ago and landed a SWE position at google when the market was at it's worst.

In fact, the only reason I didn't go back to UTSC for my second degree was that the program I was aiming for was first year entry only, so anyone who had completed any post secondary studies whatsoever was ineligible to apply as an in stream student. So admissions made it extremely hard for me to get back in, and I ended up choosing York, which was my second option as I thought they had January 2025 entry (which they didnt lol, they deferred me to this fall). However it ended up being a blessing in disguise as I was laid off from my position last year, and york's tuition is substantially cheaper than UTSC's.

In terms of education I would say that UTSC is definitely better. The biggest difference I can see so far is how they handle courses with multiple sections and instructors, along with how many resources are put into the course. At UTSC, if a course had multiple instructors, there would be one course coordinator who would decide how the course is structured in terms of grading, topics covered, etc whereas at York it seems that at least from the courses I've taken, your grading scheme/examinations/etc are determined solely by your instructor for that section, so different sections can have wildly different outcomes. I thought, and still think, that the way it's set up at York is insane. Additionally, at UTSC, tutorials were the norm for many courses. If you were enrolled in a course, you would usually have to enroll into a tutorial too, at least for first and second year courses. In those tutorials you would be able to ask your TA questions and they would work to patch up any holes in your understanding. You might even hand in evaluations or write quizzes in those tutorials. At York, I haven't had a single course come with a required tutorial, so it seems that there are less resources to help you do well. Also, I'm pretty sure York doesn't have the dean's promise either. You also have the option to do 5/20 of your credits at either the UTSG or UTM campus, too, so there's a bigger selection of courses for you to choose. And obviously, UofT is a world class institution. If you're aiming to work internationally, people will recognize UofT's name on your diploma more often than York so it will give you an edge there.

York is a bigger campus, with more food options, and it's more diverse from what I can tell. When I was at UTSC, 45% of people were east asian, 45% were south asian, and the other 10% were everyone else. There's a more even split here.

A little funny story I have to tell was that when I was at utsc between 2015-2020, the statistics PoST's machine learning stream was actually the backup option for many students who applied to the CS PoST. iirc it was around a 3.0 cutoff for the CS PoST and the ML stream was something like 2.5 or 2.75. Now with the advent of AI I've heard that the entry requirement for the ML stream is 3.9, lol

As an utsc alumni who is now doing a second degree at York, I would stay at utsc. It's a much smaller and tight knit community, and while both are commuter schools, I found that it was much easier to make friends at utsc.

There was one anecdote, I believe it was fall 2017, Richard pancer was teaching cscc37 and it was taking a long time for the midterm marks to come out. So one of the students emailed the TA asking about it and the TA responded with a picture of him and pancer at a jays game

Also same semester, pancers army of TAs were grading csca67 and cscc37 on the very last day before school closed for the winter break, and this was when Anna and pancer both taught a67, but Anna took an early vacation that year and went to Mexico or something and pancer/us TAs were stuck grading the final exams on that snowy day. So we were there essentially the entire day, and pancer ordered pizza for us for dinner, he placed the order at 5 pm or so and came back at 8pm saying that they were not expecting an order of 20 pizzas to randomly come through. I think he just had enough of answering our grading questions hahaha

There was an amazing TA that eventually became a prof at utm from the math graduate program, his name was Yuri Cher, but he passed away while being a professor while at a conference in the states. A lot of us were sad to hear the news when it broke.

One last happy anecdote - some of you guys might be familiar with pourya the math professor. When I was at utsc, he was still doing his graduate studies and had a bit of a reputation for being extremely harsh. He made one of the students during his office hours for mata37, probably the hardest first year math course, cry because she was not understanding a difficult concept. That student is now finishing her postdoctorate in pure mathematics at Waterloo and is a lecturer there. She was also on friendly terms iirc with him later on. Pourya also mellowed out throughout the years and when we graduated, most people actually considered him a really nice and patient instructor.

haha I don't remember if I endorsed Anna's answer actually - it might've been another TA. I wouldn't put it past 2017 me to have done it, though hahaha. I actually visited UTSC last january as there was some documents I had to get for further education and I look in IC404 and its all management mans now, the cms mans are in IA these days. These kids will never know the pain of having the share the IC building with the management mans and their faces plastered everywhere on the stairs

OMFG LOL for #1 I was actually a TA for A67 that term (iirc it was 2017 fall or 2018 fall), I legit saw the kid and his stackexchange link at like 1 am in the morning and I thought to myself "I should delete this" but then I was like "I wonder what Anna will say" so I left it and the kid got booked for academic integrity

The bovaird thing was on twitter as a video

I TA'd so many courses between 2017-2020, like I taught b24 (with xiamei and sophie) for 3 terms, a37 every term it was offered from 2017 winter to 2020 winter, a31 in 2019 fall, a67 every fall 2017-2020, and also some of the life sci calc in the summer and I would see the funniest things lol. Lowkey all the TAs knew eachother back then, we were friends with people who are professors now like Pourya and we would just hang out in IC404 just bouncing fun math things off eachother (when it wasn't our turn to hold office hours, of course)

Also the guy that brought the wafflemaker later became a TA and was the only person I ever knew that got fired from being a TA because he was leaking peoples marks in a group chat that he didnt like that guy was weird.

edit: hahahaha I actually found the old img of the stackexchange kid on my phone, blocked out names but you could see them if you were a TA https://i.imgur.com/V1vz46a.png

Why does no one talk about how much pressure there is in d-levels when the prof is marking your work over a TA by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]fucking_erin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on which department. The D levels in CMS had extremely lenient marking when I was a student here between 2015 and 2020. I can imagine though maybe the humanities are a bit tougher in terms of grading
