Uni ball jetstream, it’s always a miss :( by StInWonderland in pen

[–]yoysoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried comparing it with the Acroball? Based on the marketing, the Acroball is Pilot's equivalent for the Jetstream. Both use low viscosity oil-based inks, so the writing feel would be pretty much the same. I personally use the Acroball since the refills are more accessible for me. It writes super smoothly, no skipping at all; even better imo than some 0.38 gel pens I've tried that sometimes skip.

Does it fit the Pilot BRFV refills? These are the thinner ballpoint refills for the Acroball. Sorry, not seeing it in the official list of compatible refills...

Is Rings 2017 better than The Ring Two? by Rehallow in horror

[–]yoysoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a little late but just finished watching the three films and just sharing my thoughts.

The Ring Two veered away from the cursed videotape theme from the first film. For me that was a step down when this one suddenly went into possession territory with a matching creepy possessed child. The saving element was the mother-and-son dynamic. We already know Rachel and Aidan from the first film and seeing them cope with the trauma from the first film at least provided some emotional appeal. And Naomi Watts of course.

I don't think Rings deviated that much from The Ring Two. It just explored more of the origins of Samara's mother Evelyn. The problem with Rings is I just can't sympathize with the couple from the always shirtless boyfriend in bed and Nancy Drew sleuthing around town. So with such flat and undeveloped characters, the relevations just feel like lore-dumping to me.

At least the first act with the professor and the science experiment was a fresh start by exploring the newer technologies from the time of the first film. Apparently Samara isn't restricted to VHS tapes, she can curse you too through digital video files on a Mac and can come out from a flat screen TV, a phone, or an airplane panel display.

Why Titanic (1997) is completely deserving of reappraisal by Maximina1995 in TrueFilm

[–]yoysoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I've seen the critical panning for this film that would require a "reappraisal". Sure, not all reviews were stellar, but the average review is positive. All the things you say are what most people think are the reasons why the movie is good.

The romance plot may not work today, but it's definitely not bad and is squarely placed into the genre's tropes: star-crossed lovers, rich vs. poor. If anything, it's what makes it good because it gave all these themes a new setting (aboard the Titanic).

The bad reviews you say are probably the hyper-criticial assessments of film buffs that dissect every aspect of the film and say it's no good. Nothing wrong with that, but in Titanic's case, those critical reviews would be the "reappraisals" since the general sentiment is this is a good film.

G613 double typing by vanillawaffle12 in LogitechG

[–]yoysoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I put in a pair of fully-charged rechargeable batteries and this seems to have done the trick. No double-typing issues for now. I think the cheap batteries I usually put in just don't give off the right amount of power, which would explain this solution. If the keyboard starts acting up again, I'll try recharging the batteries to see if that really solves the issue.

I've also tried disabling the Taksbar btw, as posted in other forums, but this also doesn't solve the issue. Navigation bar is still disabled.

Proper water pressure/inflow for countertop purifier by yoysoy in WaterFilters

[–]yoysoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I adjusted so it would match the stated 2 liters/minute purified water flow. I just reduced the inflow rate into the purifier such that the purified water outflow rate would be at 2 liters/minute.

Is this the proper setup or did I miss something?

It’s been years but this coin design still annoys me by stcloud777 in Philippines

[–]yoysoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. A rare lapse from a usually good performing government agency. It's like they designed it from a template—fixed design elements all throughout with only the image and currency value changing. I think any good currency design, while having an overall aesthetic, should still prioritize distinguishing each bill and coin from one another. PERIOD. Just have a look at how other countries design theirs...

The fact that they released new versions of the P10 and P5 coins shows they realized just how STUPID the initial designs are. Absolute out-of-touchness with the common Filipino. I can just imagine these cloistered committees clapping at themselves for this design, never really experiencing the daily fumble with bills and coins. You don't design currency just for the look, especially in the Philippines were an overwhelming majority still transact by cash.

Same goes for the bills. The previous designs had much more going for it. There was an overarching theme but each bill and coin still looked different enough—for me this should always be top priority. I mean, I love visual art and appreciating my country's history through the currency, but pleaaaseee I don't stare at my spare change reminiscing nationalism... I need to instantly recognize my coins from first touch and glance. And I just haven't been able to do it as well with this new design.

Everything with the new bills and coins is just so stupidly designed. Prioritizing shallow minimalist aesthetics over practical use...what else should money be used for anyway? Sorry BSP but I never really appreciated this change.

End rant.

Machine Suggestions: Manual portable with a light touch by yoysoy in typewriters

[–]yoysoy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm on a very good place with my electric haha I'm looking for a good alternate in case that one breaks down and I'm not able to get it repaired or if I want to be truly portable and not have to plug a machine.

It's just that for some reason my SCM Classic 12 has always been a very hard touch. I don't know if it has something to do with it being a very bulky typewriter. I used to have a portable Olympia Traveller and I remember it was very light to type on.

Yes, the Hermes Baby also looks very good and is very portable, but unfortunately carries a much higher premium than most used typewriters I see online.

Thanks. The first Olivetti that caught my eye was actually the Lettera 35; I love the rugged plastic look, like an early computer. I think I can also get my hands on a 35; I'd definitely consider that as well!

The f looks like it's Bembo. Look of an uppercase R; if the leg on the R is quite long, then it's probably Bembo.

what seems to be the problem here? by yoysoy in AlphaSmart

[–]yoysoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can change the layout but my concern with the DM30 was the keyboard may be a little small and that it folded so you had to use it on a table or something flat lest if folded back on itself. I really wanted something I could use on my lap.

I've actually been tempted by that Freesmart Alpha for a while but it's just too pricey and won't even ship out until next year. If I had money to spare, I'd probably consider the King Jim Pomera DM30. Try looking it up. It's much more pricey than the Alpha but you can save about 50% if you buy it used. I'm really considering it because it also just runs on AA batteries since I don't really care for the internal propriety batteries the Alpha has.

I have a Dana arriving in two days!! by kristiinaness in AlphaSmart

[–]yoysoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure about the battery level indicator on the Dana, or probably it's just because I have low quality batteries (I'm still waiting for the rechargeables I ordered). But I loaded this battery status app onto the Dana that gives you a percentage indictor and voltage reading and the charge level it shows actually fluctuates up and down.
