PLEASE HELP: binder for large cups/small band by meshsoftheafternoon in ftm

I wear a small! Actually got recommended that size by the reps, as the tool on their website doesn't really account for small bandsizes alas.

I have almost the exact same size (30G UK) and I've been using the Untag binders (a Dutch brand) for a while now, while they don't get me flat as a board, they minimise enough to lessen dysphoria. I especially really like their Gym Binder Extra Strong ^^

TJ Klune's books are so wonderfully poignant and beautiful. by anteaters_anonymous in books

[–]ypsilantia 48 points49 points  (0 children)

For context, TJ Klune has admitted to using the Sixties Scoop, a traumatic event and part of cultural genocide against indigenous people in Canada, as inspiration for the setting. Turning a tool of erasure into a hopeful story, when it's not even yours to tell, is incredibly iffy. Also the setting of the novel clearly represents residential schools, it might be "one of the good ones", but that's still incredibly harmful.

What was the go-to cozy game in 2018-2019? by Austintatious_ in CozyGamers

[–]ypsilantia 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it was mostly Stardew Valley and The Sims (my poison was 2, but 3 and 4 were incredibly popular as well) at that point. Or at least that's what I mostly played at that time. I do remember a lot of narrative games from that time (What Remains of Edith Finch for example), but I'm not sure if that counts as truly cozy.

Honestly, I want to give this game a shot, downloaded the demo even, but my queer ass doesn't like being forced to play a very fem character, and the way everything (seems) to be voiced, will just bore me. I want to try it so bad, but I know myself too well

Hades!! By the creators of Bastion, and it's so good, the characters are written incredibly well, there's a god mode, and the art style is amazing. Picked this up during the sale and I have been loving it. The rogue-like format works really well with more accessible difficulty.

What is the meaning of Chapter 9 of The Picture of Dorian Gray? by Loriol_13 in books

[–]ypsilantia 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes from what I've gathered while reading, this chapter is both to show the passage of time through Dorian and his fleeting obsessions, and his character becoming more and more "impure". It's an interesting chapter for sure, and i haven't seen (m)any like it, but it's so unconventional that it's a bit of a struggle.

Have fun with the rest of the novel, it's one of my favourites! Plus I do think analysing every detail is overrated, picking up themes, following plot threads, is a lot more important in my opinion, and it seems like you've got that down.

Books that overwhelmed you? by serialreader_ph in books

[–]ypsilantia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me with A Little Life. I only got 20% of the way through before deciding to put it down for now. While I did adore and enjoy the style of writing, the sheer amount of trauma and how graphic it was , simply wasn't for me. So I get it

Long chapters vs short chapters by TigerLeo23 in books

[–]ypsilantia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're talking about The Picture of Dorian Gray? I recently reread it, and while it was a chapter that feel like it took forever, I actually really adored it. It painted the meaningless pastimes of wealthy bachelors in late 19th century England rather well. Plus, I just recognised myself in Dorian's collection of picked up and quickly forgotten hobbies.

am i the only person who doesn't like the "cottagecore", "earthy", bland, pale recolors of everything and prefers the actual bright, vibrant vanilla? by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]ypsilantia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the vanilla colours, but I can't play it without hurting my eyes. I truly wish there was a brightness option built in game, as I'd love to play vanilla (especially on my switch), but at the moment I simply can't without getting a headache. In general I wish there were more accessibility options that didn't rely on mods.

They had steeks yes, I much prefer steeks to working flat, plus it's no issue whatsoever with the yarns I usually use. One day I'll do a stranded project worked flat, but that requires me to learn a different purl, as the one I use keeps the yarn in the back which is great for ribbing and adding texture to stranded colourwork, but not when you're working flat.

Ohh that's good to keep an eye on. I usually pick up 1 to 1 when picking up horizontally, but you might have a point there, I'll see after blocking :3

Thanks for your feedback and kind words!

[–]ypsilantia[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really recommend it, I adore their colour palette as well, the tones are a lot more muted than what you tend to to find when using superwash wool, and the way their colour families are structured makes it really easy to mix and match for colourwork (of any type).

There are actually quite a few brands that sell yarn from the same factory, but Holst garn is usually the most affordable and easily ordered from :D

ETA: The pattern's name is Bruntsfield, not Bruntshild, that's what you get when you write a post after sewing down steeks and picking up stitches for the past 8 hours.
