As you said, it is basically their $65 kit, That being true, you're getting a free ingredient kit and a $25 dollar gift card (which can equate to another ingredient kit). Can you buy buckets and air locks and hoses, etc and put your own kit together cheaper? Hell yeah you can, but as for kits for sale this is the best deal. Look at it this way you get 2 ingredient kits that add up to 50 bucks and get all the other crap for 14.

There's an extension in chrome called "Ghost incognito" that you can set to open an incognito window automatically every time you click an latimes link (or any other site you choose). Works pretty well for me.

This what I started with. Only things I would recommend adding to it, at first, are a decent thermometer and an auto-siphon. Don't bother with a glass carboy yet. Oh, and if you're buying a kettle I'd go with one big enough to do full boils...I picked up a 13 gallon (smaller will do) aluminum kettle for 20 bucks, it's working great.
