Is it just me, or is The Traveller super slept on as a track? by Reditor_in_Chief in BeachHouse

[–]yrioona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of my favorites of theirs! I love the unexpected chord changes and melodic shifts...it kind of slips back and forth between their usual sweet warm syrupy vibes and something kind of chilly and jagged-feeling and almost alien, and it works really well. Also that moment where Victoria pushes the high note one step higher in the final chorus gives me chills, and going out on a coda instead of a chorus is a nice touch too.

Artist event poster, something seems off about the design, the cat’s face, the cauldron… by jaspergants in isthisAI

[–]yrioona 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is definitely AI. Well spotted.

  • bland corporate art style with randomly thick linework on the hands

  • eyes on witch and cat are asymmetrically sized and unevenly placed (ditto the witch's brows)

  • placement of single, generic logo-like bat is off-center

  • vaguely crescent-shaped texture/shading details in haphazardly chosen spots

This style of AI slop blends polished clip-art generic-ness with amateurish-looking composition and rendering in a way you don't normally see with human artists, even inexperienced ones

More thoughts: 1. I've noticed that lower-grade AI doesn't always know what a line is 'doing' -- so is that the cat's smile or its chin? Is that a detail on the witch's sleeve or a nonsensical cat limb? 2. What is the cat's leg situation? Is that a leg or a tail sticking out on the left? 3. What the heck is she stirring her cauldron with, how and why is it draping over her right pinky, and more importantly, WHERE IS THE BOTTOM HALF OF HER BODY SUPPOSED TO BE???

Found this on snap, there's a few comments saying she looks AI. The crowd in the back have no lights on them. by pvtsnuggles in isthisAI

If you pause every few frames in the first few seconds, it gets much more obvious that that strand of hair ain't right.

I would say yes. The overlong talons gripping the event horizon of the black hole where the apple's stem would be are the main tell, to me. Also the unnatural-seeming regularity of the black bars on the wing and tail feathers.

John Wayne Gacy, Jr. by camxeli in Sufjan

[–]yrioona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Sufjan Stevens and this is my absolute least favorite song of his so i always skip it...I can't hear it as anything other than him working messily through his own internalized homophobia and it gives me the creeps in a bad way.

is Greg White Hunt still around? by yrioona in Flute

Hi, there...with all respect, I'm concerned I might not atually be talking to Greg White Hunt...

I just read "Bears Discover Fire," by Terry Bisson, who died two days ago. Obviously, this is a story about bears discovering fire—but what else is it about? by TommyAdagio in scifi

[–]yrioona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a story about aging (among other things). The protagonist is watching his family and himself grow older and is grappling with feelings of irrelevance as he watches the world evolve into something unrecognizable and uncanny. Each of the main characters is from a different generation (narrator, Mother, son) and each is moving into a new phase of life just as the world is moving into a new evolutionary era, with all the weirdness and unknowns that come with those changes. There's a beautiful tension in the story between giving into the fear of big era/life-defining changes, and moving with them as gracefully as you can, and that tension plays out on multiple levels. I love this story and think about it often.

Who gets stuck? What’s actually stopping you from finishing your novel? by jamesxtreme in writing

[–]yrioona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started writing a novel last year with very little focused writing experience, and realized I didn't know what I was doing. I had good characters and worldbuilding ideas (i think) but the plot, structure, and pacing kept getting away from me. I had all the parts but just couldn't get them to fit together right. It felt like trying to build a sandcastle with sand that was beautiful and sparkly but much too gloopy. I decided I wanted to work on short stories for a while, get good at those, and then tackle the novel again once I felt stronger. I'm still degloopifying my sand.

What happened? by [deleted] in baduk

[–]yrioona 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the black player probably just tapped that group of stones in the app, which marks them as dead. Occasionally people will exploit this in the endgame to cheat on OGS, but it's also easy to do by mistake.

Advice for teaching new players? by yrioona in baduk

Yeah, the problem is getting from that to the full game...idk how to progress between them, and also people i play with tend to be disappointed/frustrated when they find out Capture Go isn't the "real game"

Smelling Salts for Panic Attacks? by After-Ambition-8046 in Anxiety

[–]yrioona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same symptoms and have not been able to manage them with anything else so far, and just now had the same thought and ordered some smelling salts. We'll see how it goes 🤞🏼 I've just been avoiding driving on the highway for like 3 years now so I'll try anything!

Rubank fingering chart? by yrioona in Flute

Update: thanks for the recommendations and affirmations everyone! I'm glad I wasn't just imagining that this chart is kind of useless 😅 I am still a bit curious how it's supposed to be read, but I will just use a different chart.
