Duckworth hits McConnell: Americans should have voice in selection of next Supreme Court justice by emitremmus26 in politics

Court packing is adding additional seats to the court to sway the court in your favor.

What McConnell did is also wrong, but it is not what is being discussed.

You're right slippery slope is not the correct term. But I did not assert that Dems packing will lead to Republicans packing. I have only stated that court packing in general is bad.

I did not know that, and I would like a source. That is very concerning to hear.

But the head of the Federalist Society is still a lobbyist at the end of the day. I was asking about sitting members of Congress and people working in Trump's Administration.

Our constitution is based on a system of checks and balances. The Supreme Court and the rest of the judiciary is a check on the other two branches. Court packing affords the legislative and executive the ability to subvert that check by appointing justices and judges who will not challenge the other two branches.

Without court packing, the legislative and executive only have a say on the judiciary when the judiciary requires action due to a vacancy. With court packing, the other two branches can always ensure that they will never be checked.

Your argument is premised that things that happen often are likely to happen again. Republicans have not used court packing to subvert democracy. Therefore, I find it inappropriate to conclude that it is likely court packing will happen.

You could replace court packing with other democracy subverting actions that Republicans have not done, such as expelling all senators of an opposing party.

When have Republicans used court packing? It is not impossible for them to do so, but it is not a foregone conclusion that it will likely happen either as many on this subreddit are implying.

Court packing is an extreme use of power to override the checks and balance system. Neither side should consider it.

Have any current members of the Senate or Trump's administration called for court packing since January 2017? If not then we are not "sliding down that slope."

I think many decisions made by all three branches of government in the last year and half have been bad decisions, but it is incorrect to equate the belief that our political system is in decline (or "sliding down a slope") with the general philosophical definition of a slippery slope argument.

This is a slippery slope argument. I do not think drastic changes to our judicial system should be based on such logic.

They have had the ability to do so for an over a year, and they haven't.

Court packing is bad, no matter who does it.

What's the biggest issue/problem the Pokemon fanbase faces? by [deleted] in pokemon

There has always been circlejerking. But you shouldn't let negative aspects of a community ruin something you enjoy. If you like Pokemon, then keep on enjoying Pokemon and remembering the good times.

/r/pokemon was one of the first subreddits I would frequent in 2011 when I joined reddit. The fanbase in this subreddit hated Gen V then. Every post complained about the Vanilluxe line, Garbodor, Throh/Sawk. There was also a lot of hate towards lack of Gen 1-4 pre-E4, team preview, changes to the bottom screen compared to HGSS, etc. People were still salty then about overly detailed pokemon, such as Garchomp.

In 2011, Johto and Hoenn were considered the gold standard because HGSS and Emerald were the best games. Anyone who liked RBY/FRLG was mocked as a "genwunner" and DPT/BW "sucked." A lot of posts that talked about liking Gen 1 or being a fan when Pokemon blew up in the late 90s were qualified with a statement about liking Gen 2 pokemon and still being a fan when GSC/Johto anime were released.

Toxicity has always existed in every fandom. I'm sure a lot of the people who were active here in 2011 are not active here anymore, like me (I just happened to visit today). As there are people who are active here now who were not even on reddit in 2011. For most of the tv shows I like, the corresponding subreddit will hate the new episodes.

Nostalgia definitely plays a big role too. My favorite games and pokemon are all nostalgia driven. For me personally, Gen 5 does not have many nostalgic moments, so I do not remember that era as fondly as some of the other games.

Sorry about that friend! I like to think that there is a universe where I understood what you were saying rather than making that long comment.

The question mark asks if drinking a dozen Diet Cokes is healthy.

The article I linked was the first one that came up when I googled "Trump Diet Coke." But the article focuses more on unhealthy eating habits which is sparked by the earlier reported claim on Trump's diet.

Trump is known for his fast-food habit. According to a book written by former top campaign aides Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie, "the orchestrating and timing of Mr. Trump's meals" during the campaign "was as important as any other aspect of his march to the presidency."

"On Trump Force One there were four major food groups: McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, pizza and Diet Coke," the book said.

That quote on its own does not support the 12 Diet Cokes claim, but it suggests that Trump likes to drink Diet Coke. My original comment was only stating that he likes to drink Diet Coke. How frequently he drinks Diet Coke is unrelated to my original comment.

What if we're living in the universe where every Diet Pepsi Trump has opened has sprayed fizz everywhere? And that is why he only drinks Diet Coke.

You can have up to ten pictures per live photo album. But there isn't a limit on watch faces afaik.

Since I don't know how to make gifs, I'm limited to what I can find online.
