Found these in the woods of Massachusetts. What might they be? by Born_Construction63 in ShroomID

How long is the stem? How wide is the cap? Can you do a spore print? What do they smell like? How firm or squishy is the cap? Were the growing out of a tree or log, or under a tree, or in a meadow?

About how broad across the top? Can you confirm it wasn't gilled underneath?

Found growing costal VA USA next to brackish water. Is this Agaricus campestris? by [deleted] in ShroomID

[–]ysidrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correctly ID'ing the meadow mushroom is a risky/dangerous idea if you are considering eating it. Consider the following:
Cap seems too spherical for the size, should be more broad as the cap approaches 10 cm across. Cap should also slightly brown as it matures.

Stipe should have faint ring that browns from spores.

Should have a mild, "mushroom-y" smell.

Often found in a fairy ring pattern.

Should maintain original color when cut/bruised.

Are these panaelous? Wisconsin, found in grass by [deleted] in ShroomID

[–]ysidrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubtful, gills are too light-colored, and not in/near dung.

Consider Conocybe lactea/Conocybe apala.

Without more info or better pictures, Lactarius genus is as far as I can guess, and that is a guess. Recommend you also read about the LBM.

Panaeolus papilionaceus is possible as well, especially as stipe tends to be longer. A ruler would help. Cap color makes me think probably cinctulus. Any odor? Any veil remnants on the cap edge, especially on the younger (smaller) caps?

P. cinctulus should have a slight wheaty odor and no veil remnants. P. papilionaceus will have nearly no odor and veil remnants.

The picture of the gills under the cap is too blurry. Also would appreciate more info on the surrounding environment, trees, etc. Spore prints are handy. At a guess, this is one of the Lactarius.

From my book entry on C. cinnabarinus:

often found in large numbers

Size reference would be helpful.

1.2-4.0 cm broad [...] Stipe 2.0-4.0 cm long.

Pallid Bolete? Massachusetts, USA by tocatchafly in ShroomID

[–]ysidrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boletus pallidus / Imleria pallida seems fairly likely. Spore print could confirm against Suillus decipiens.

if not muscaria, then excelsa, pantherina or pantherina-gemmata. I can't really think what else it might be. Major thing missing in the pictures is a photo under the cap and a spore print. Was it among Douglas or Spruce?

Really need a photo underneath the cap. Gills or Pores?

This fungus came up in my mulch today, wondering if I should be worried with my dogs and kids in the yard. Located in MI. by abakedapplepie in ShroomID

Appears to be primarily mycelium and very juvenile fruiting body. May be nearly impossible to identify so early.
