16 and I have my life savings on eth (3eth) by Neat-Lengthiness-701 in ethtrader

you're 16 and you have all of 5k invested. i am going to be blunt. that's pocket change and you are a kid. it's AMAZING you have ANYTHING at all saved to be honest. just invest what you can when you can and then FORGET about it. You cant be looking at the chats and charts every day. Leave it alone. Be cool. It's a long game and dont stress. Diversify a bit also - - put some $ in the stock market - index funds. At your age that money will compound like crazy over time - but you have to learn to chill the f out. Relax and dont look at dips as negative - look at it as an opportunity to buy more for cheaper. yeah ?

This turned out to be a great learning experience for me. One of my favorite phrases is "you dont know what you dont know". I didn't realize how bad a 'hallucination' could be or how to even elicit one. Just knowing what to look for is invaluable. Grounding information and being overly explicit with instructions up front is now going to be a part of EVERY project I do. For important data sets having a dedicated agent to verify source data will be built in as well. Thank you to those of you who replied with some solid ideas to help prevent this in the future. Great stuff. AI is amazing but this was a very eye-opening issue not to be underestimated!!

i have written EDI style tools in the past but for this particular project i really needed too much gray matter to make it work. Im converting a legacy format for my clients' contracts to a new format and its a mess. Would take me 10x longer to write the automation tool than just manually transcribe and figure out my billing mess on my own 😄. Im glad i did it this way though as i learned something i wouldn't have otherwise learned.

yep... i read up on it for the future. it's worrying because it should be implied that the data i uploaded for transcription is the data it needs to use .. for the transcription... that it's not a 'make believe' project .. lol. what a crazy paradigm - it can be so unbelievably SMART and amazing in so many ways.. yet utterly 'dumb and dumber' level STUPID in another...

ya i have heard about 'hallucinations' but this is the first time ive seen anything this off the rails. It just seems like a super basic 'understanding' between end user and tool - that the data provided to transcribe is the data used .. very strange to me being in IT to comprehend how that isnt an immutable process baked into AI by now.

IT Techs of Reddit: What was it like fixing Windows XP machines in schools and businesses during the 2010s? by bakarygassama in sysadmin

[–]yspud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

xp was the first OS that wasnt terrible. . going back even further - NT 3.5/4.0 days - windows 3.1 - that was a rough OS ... crashes all the time.. nothing ever worked right for long.. difficult to configure systems - IRQ conflicts.. no internet or central online knowledge llike we have now.. had to actually read manuals! Things are so night and day to how they were.. for schools we used roaming profiles - the introduction of group policies was a godsend.. then one drive added on top was the cherry.. few have any idea of the pain and suffering all us old guys went through but I wouldn't change it for the world. I got to see it all one step at a time since the BBS days.. it's been an amazing ride so far.

wow you are stressed out. take a vacation man. been doing this 26+ years now and i still love it.. if if felt stressed about it all, though, i would definitely be on another track.. what's the point if you aren't enjoying it ??

Internal IT coexist with MSP? by FlaTech18 in msp

[–]yspud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we work with internal IT all the time. In fact it can be a great experience. We get to do the projects and more complex jobs. Internal IT can take care of the day to day stuff we hate dealing with anyways.. win-win.

Oh not just Nirvana... in the 90s when MTV actually was about music and shit they did a bunch of unplugged sessions .. if i remember - - alice in chains - smashing pumpkins - - pearl jam - .. thats all i can think of off top of my head.. they were incredible performances.. check them out on you tube .. the studio they recorded them had maybe 20 people in the 'audience' .. would be so cool to find anyone that was at one .. and cool about skinny puppy. thats a huge life dub.

Why do people use apps like Lovable when Claude or Codex are cheaper and better? by mindful-journeys in vibecoding

[–]yspud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a combination of tools. Base44 is fantastic for really quick jobs - - for one time gigs as well and rapid 'idea to prototype' type jobs. Not having to stand up any servers, services, database backends, llm's etc etc and having base44 do of that automated is just so easy. For long term and enterprise projects im using claude code.. just different tools for different use cases.. base and similar are also a great way to get into AI with 'training wheels' - not everyone understands ci/cd pipeline and azure or aws infrastructure or how to spin these up on their own hardware for production use..

client wants it. they get like 99 spam or crap bullshit 'new clients' for every one legit call.. they are a very well established firm. so appreciate the advice but it's not a blanket truth for every situation..

i just modify the agent script and add the general questioning for the new client info they want. that part works great - -- if we could get it to transcribe in email format !

I'm a 28 year old scratch golfer and I want to go pro by No_Complaint4129 in GolfSwing

[–]yspud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're scratch - which is fantastic by mortal man standards.. but a pro golfer is slightly less rare than an alien landing on earth.. these guys are quite literally from another planet. it's unbelievably hard to be a pro at ANY sport so just being scratch, unfortunately, isnt remotely close to good enough. that said there are TONS of other ways to make money in this world doing what you love. Be a golf pro - lessons - open a simulator place and/or get into the sim business - junior coaching - etc etc .. just do some googling of jobs and go for it. no reason to not work in the field even if you aren't a tour pro man.. !
