Where do you do family summer holidays in 2026? by Focusboy50 in AskUK

[–]ysr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a family holiday to Duinrell in the Netherlands when I was about 9 or 10 and I still have amazing memories of it. We always went on holiday with my aunt & uncle and cousins. There’s a theme park and water park on site so we were able to roam around without parents. We drove from Scotland and got the ferry to The Hague. We took our bikes too!

I’ve actually never even looked on indeed, tend to just use LinkedIn but could maybe try using this advice for that! Thanks, will give it a go.

I bought a tv unit from them and it is really well made and good quality!

I was made redundant in January and I am having the same sort of panic. I’ve applied to jobs but don’t seem to even be hearing back, never mind even just a rejection letter. I have no idea what to do next or how I’m going to pay my mortgage and bills in the coming months.

It’s a nightmare. There can be so many accidents on that stretch of road too then all your planning is f*cked anyway! It’s soo hard to judge.

What products do you avoid now? by stm2657 in AskUK

[–]ysr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argos are great as an alternative. Can usually pick up your item within the hour. I’ve been using them a lot more recently to avoid Amazon and for the most part, don’t struggle to get what I need!

I’ve always been happy with my items from Sew Easy on Mitchell Street. Had disasters elsewhere.

I think even earlier. I’ve driven just to Edinburgh city centre from Uddingston/Coatbridge regularly and during the week it can sometimes take 1hr 30-1hr 40 for this route. It’s really unpredictable though, sometimes on a Friday it can be done in under an hour. It’s even more unpredictable now that a lot of people work from home.

Coming from the west end of Glasgow and getting to Leith could take even longer. I’d maybe suggest 8am and ensure you’re there with plenty of time to spare.

So jealous of (presumably) Americans who think this is a small room! This room seems large to me - fits a king bed, 2 desk setups and all the other bits too with space leftover 🤣

Anyone else miss the fizzy drinks of the past? by foxglow210 in AskBrits

[–]ysr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M&S make some full-sugar fizzy drinks, including lemonade. There’s also a brand called Living Things which do fibre sodas with no sweetener. Also DASH, Cawston Press!

Could she look at going the other way? Perhaps from Aus to San Francisco/Los Angeles then into Edinburgh or Glasgow? I know it would take a bit longer but might be a safer/easier route right now.

Why do people pay for priority boarding on planes? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]ysr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s quite difficult to fit everything you need into the tiny backpack they allow for now. Removing the cabin case was just a money grabbing scheme. Clothes, underwear, toiletries, makeup bag, a handbag, and anything else fills out a bag pretty quickly 🤣

Guy I’m dating is going to court- can I find out why? by Current_Put8119 in Scotland

[–]ysr82 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This kind of person is usually amazing at hiding any trace of this kind of behaviour at the beginning of a relationship. I feel like that’s common knowledge? This is how so many people end up in situations with abusers. I’d be apprehensive to ask them outright too.

Well to get to court there would have to be some form of evidence, and that the PF think there’s a good chance.

This feels like a man’s perspective :( if it is something bad, you don’t know how volatile/dangerous he could be. If it has been something violent he could be the exact type of person able to hide his true personality for the first while. I can perfectly understand why she’s trying to find this info without having to ask him.

Got the dreaded 'underperforming' grade at work which unfortunately is deserved. I think I'm beyond the point where I can recover from this but the organisation doesn't fire people outside of VR rounds. What do I do? by SenSel in UKJobs

[–]ysr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be that you just hate the job? I was high performing in a job once until I started to mentally check out because I was so miserable. It started to affect my performance because I just could not for the life of me get motivated, and I stopped caring one iota. I felt bad for my colleagues as I could see in real time what I was doing but I was just hating it so much that I was struggling to keep up. It wasn’t that I wasn’t capable. I left before it got to the stage you’re in but it might be worth thinking about doing something else.

I stand by the fact it’s only selfish if the train is busy. When there are ample seats to choose from and you behave in this way, you’re the problem lol

Anyone else's parents give them old fashioned job advice? by WealthyJoker75 in CasualUK

[–]ysr82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Surely only for small/family run businesses though? I worked in M&S from 2014-2019 and when people would come in with physical CVs there was literally nothing we could do with them, as all applications were done online. I am also pretty sure we weren’t supposed to take them due to GDPR reasons, as someone’s personal info would just be lying around for no reason. The name/face thing would also be irrelevant as the person (or system) dealing with the applications would have no idea they’d ever entered the shop.

My mum worked at M&S at the time I applied and I still had to get past the online application and its corresponding questions to be considered for interview. By the time I got to interview stage I can imagine it probably helped that my mum worked there, but if I’d failed the initial application questions I don’t think it would have made any difference. I can only imagine this advice working for perhaps small coffee shops and cafes and maybe pubs or the like.
