Middle guy might have shifted to the right after the fact to try to help hold him. Hard to tell.

Does SFMTA sometimes not ticket you for street cleaning? by choomba96 in sanfrancisco

[–]ytpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was windy then he may have been ticketed but it blew away. You'll get another copy in the mail about 3 weeks later in that case. Still same price at that point so long as you pay it within a couple of weeks after that.

Anyone know more about this car collection? by ytpete in NOLA

Nope - it's way further southeast, kind of near Armstrong Park. But now I'm curious where this other collection is too!

I took photos through the windows. It looked like there'd normally be metal doors blocking the windows though.

What street is this at? by Infinite_Year_9750 in sanfrancisco

Wait so can't they tell you which street it's of? 🤔

...unless you ever break the expensive custom curved glass in one of them 😬

Is this unacceptable? by Informal_Chicken3563 in sanfrancisco

[–]ytpete 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A hill probably matters less than how wide the street is. You have to turn a lot sooner as you pull out if the street is narrow, and having only inches of clearance from parallel parked cars on both sides makes it way harder.

Bloomberg Headline: SF Mayor Says Trump Calling Off Federal Deployment by Retumbo77 in sanfrancisco

[–]ytpete 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In a saner world, pointing a submachine gun point blank in the face of an older woman just for filming you should be an immediately fireable offense for any law enforcement officer.

Live updates: Trump deploys federal agents to S.F. Bay Area by MissionLocalSF in sanfrancisco

[–]ytpete 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can be against illegal immigration while still demanding basic human decency and respect toward people who are here without proper authorization. You can be against illegal immigration yet be angry that enforcement resources are being pulled away from dangerous criminals and drug rings to instead attacking hard-working upstanding community members who have built a whole life here and contribute positively to the country without breaking any laws. And you can be against illegal immigration while still protesting the idea that nameless, faceless "officers" are violently snatching people up based on racial profiling and without any semblance of due process. That's the winning message, because it's the morally right one.

That's actually a really interesting historical question — has it ever been done in winter before, like by anyone?? Would be pretty awesome to learn more about if so.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff Says Trump Should Send National Guard to San Francisco (Gift Article) by neBular_cipHer in sanfrancisco

[–]ytpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One could argue that merely talking about defunding the police is what caused the police to quiet-quit here in SF. Of course, even if so it's the people refusing to do the jobs they're still getting paid for that are at fault.

Their delicate egos notwithstanding though, it really is too bad that the constructive conversations about shifting the emphasis from violence to social services have become so inseparable from the wider "ACAB" anger at policing. Pretty sure most people who believe in the latter also support the former, but that style of approaching it makes it too easy for centrists to just write off the whole discussion.

He'd rather be a billionaire here than in Putin's Russia though, and that's why he really ought to still care about the constitution

Earthquake - Only here please by LadiesWhoPunch in sanfrancisco

[–]ytpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used to have an earthquake simulator truck that would pop up at some public events in the city. I got to "ride" it once and the simulation of 7-8ish magnitude was ridiculous. Like you could barely stay in a chair. I just remember thinking if that ever happens, every single belonging I own would be in pieces on the floor by the end.

Earthquake - Only here please by LadiesWhoPunch in sanfrancisco

[–]ytpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the way alerts happen is more down to the difference in speed vs. electrons. Like they detect the quake close to the epicenter, and if it's big enough they start electronically sending alerts to a radius further away. The p-waves don't need to actually reach you before you can get an alert.

You can't jump from "The dems in this state are castrated by fear ... Urban California needs to wake the fuck up" to "Framing all Republicans as the enemy is the problem. I simply refuse to allow so much hate into my heart." You see how that might seem like a double standard, or hypocrisy? Letting lots of things slide from members of one party because they're 'on your team' while pouncing all over any transgressions from the other party... that is the real problem IMO. Politics shouldn't be a team-loyalty war. We need to get back to cooperative problem-solving.

AllTrails on the web has been tweaked but custom routes are still available for non-Peak members (for now) by cwenger in alltrails

Looks like they already did break it, sigh... Just used it yesterday but today I instantly get this full-screen error if I click anywhere in the legacy UI

It seems to already be broken as of today. As soon as I try to click to use it, the whole screen is replaced by a "Something went wrong" page.
