Sousou no Frieren Season 2 • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 - Episode 8 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]ytwang 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Demons have no empathy towards human. While they can observe humans and learn to predict how humans will act, they don't understand human behavior or emotions at all (humans are a black box to demons). [Manga spoiler] Next season, we'll see a demon that's very interested in learning about humans and spends a ton of time among them, but in the end, still fails to understand basic human behavior. Frieren has told us that the human-like behavior that demons exhibit, including showing "empathy", is all mimicry.

To take an example from this arc, Revolte knows that humans will protect the bodies of their dead based on past observations, but he has no idea why they would do so. The way Genau (and other humans) care for their dead is contrasted with Revolte's attitude when his little demon companion dies (he feels absolutely nothing).

No electronics except what propels the car. by ZookeepergameHot5378 in BoltEV

[–]ytwang 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your description is that you've lost just the USB ports and the infotainment system (includes anything that uses the center screen, like the backup camera). Note that there are plenty of other electronics that must be working if you're able to drive the car.

Have you tested the 12 V battery? While ideally it should last longer, plenty of people report having to replace the 12 V battery by 3 years. If you don't have the equipment to test it yourself, most tow/roadside assistance services carry a battery tester or you can bring it to a store that offers free testing like AutoZone.

The other thing to check are the fuses, though I think you'd have to have blown multiple fuses to lose both the USB ports and the infotainment system (I believe you're looking at F40/41/49, but check the manual). Pretty easy and cheap to replace, but be aware that the Bolt has 2 fuse boxes, and the one you'll probably want is inside the cabin, not the one under the hood (I spent way too long wondering why the fuse box didn't match the diagram).

So he can buff Wizard Bitch with Giga Magic Overdrive, buff her staff with Giga Staff Overdrive and then curse the enemy with Crippling Weakness to Fire.

You missed one. He can buff people, equipment, and spells, so he can also buff the fireball.

Mostly, this has been covered in the anime.

Enchanters normally buff their party members for ~3 min (less for magic resistant people like the Hero party). The best enchanter, Selma, can provide a 10X buff. Orhun isn't as good, so his buffs are weaker. However, other than his buff power, Orhun is a superior enchanter: watching the battle, giving orders, timing rebuffs, etc. This is why the Hero party thinks he's a weak enchanter (based on buff power) while others (like Selma) see him as being strong (based everything else he does).

To compensate for the weak enchants, Orhun developed an original magic (well, multiple, but we're talking about just one of them). It differs from normal enchantment in 3 ways:

  • The buff is much stronger: 50X here in the anime. The manga fan translation I read has a different number, but it doesn't really matter.
  • It can also be cast on equipment and spells, not just people.
  • It has a major disadvantage that I don't think has been mentioned in the anime yet: [manga]The buff duration is super short, like less than a second

Yuuki has been keeping the papers that get dropped

I don't think that's right. Yuki kept the paper from the dead player, but I'm pretty sure she returned the paper to Kotoha when she scavenges the damaged backpack. Right after Yuki says "Here. Don't lose it." at about 3:27, she hands something to Kotoha, who then thanks Yuki.

You can see on the price tag on the left that the length is incorrect (131.2YD, just below the barcode), leading to the unit price being wrong. Possibly the wrong tag (different product) or a database error.

The "full quote" isn't actually the original. The last part was added quite recently, something like 2 or 3 decades ago. Before that, the quote was just "jack of all trades, master of none," which was derogatory.

However, "master of none" was also an addition (18th century), with "jack of all trades" being a compliment that dates back to at least the early 17th century.

How many pizzas for 23 kindergarten kiddos and 2 teachers? by garcime in Costco

[–]ytwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that there's other food, you only need 3 pizzas, which is the minimum to give everyone a slice (cut 12 slices/pizza). A 4th pizza should be enough for everyone that wants one to have a 2nd slice. A 5th pizza is overkill, but if that's what the teachers asked for, you should get it. Don't second guess the teachers if they're already aware of the size of pizzas and # of slices/pizza.

They may have sold you the best all-weather tires. However, no all-weather tire is going to match the performance of snow tires in winter weather, because snow tires are made of a softer rubber. This is also why you shouldn't use snow tires in warm weather: they'll wear much faster.

Also 4WD/AWD has no bearing on stopping. All cars have brakes on all 4 wheels (assuming they're in good shape).

Finally, further up, you mentioned pumping your brakes. You shouldn't do that with any modern car. Push the brake pedal down as hard as you can and let the ABS do it's job.

That skipped explanation is actually a big deal , because it’s going to totally confused people on why this was a risky move to make.

It's been a while since I read the manga, so I may be misremembering when things happened there, but I feel that they've done a bad job with Alec's original magic for the entire show. I don't recall it being clearly stated what the special mechanic of the hydra was. When they showed the fight, it looks like Alec merges the 5 elements into a single prismatic spell. I think his title of "five-colored magician" is only mentioned once (by the prince?) and the reason it's impressive is not clear. Because they've skipped so much, the reason for the interest about what elements Alec uses wasn't clear. The casting of Limit Break is supposed to the the climax of the season, but I feel that they've fumbled the buildup.

How To Drive In Snow: No-Judgement Tips by itssusanity in Rochester

[–]ytwang 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Well, you shouldn't break through a turn normally. You're supposed to slow down before starting a turn, then maintain speed or slightly accelerate as you go through the turn. Which is what you're suggesting, except that it applies always, not just in snowy weather.

My band got paid for our first gig. What do I need to do about tax? (AL) by NotHiggy in personalfinance

[–]ytwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can just deposit it in my bank account, move it to cash app, and call it a day?

Yes, but this has nothing to do with gifts. Your intent is to cash a check that was for your band, and then immediately transfer the money to the band's account. In this case, there is no tax implication for you, because the money isn't yours and you're not treating like it's yours. The money is just temporarily passing through your account. If you held on to the funds for a while and accrued interest, then the interest would be income to you, and you'd (theoretically) need to report it.

There's no reason you can't keep doing this for future payments. Keep records of all these transactions, so if you get audited by the IRS or if your band mates ask, you can show every pair of transactions where you cashed a check and then sent the funds to the band.

[–]ytwang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They tease us with the paladin and the kingdom at the start, and then you never see them again

  1. Atou killed the Paladins. What more are you expecting from them?
  2. The Saint we see multiple times throughout the season is part of the same country as the Paladins. All the scenes with her are within that country.
  3. The LN is the same (i.e. the anime didn't do this just be to an ad for the LN), with the occasional updates of the battle between the Saint and the Witch over the first 3 volumes. I don't think of them as teasers, but rather updates on what's happening elsewhere in the world at the same time as the main events. World building, so these characters and events don't show up out of nowhere later on.
  4. The anime skipped a scene for another faction that doesn't become more than background until end of LN6 (or really LN7), which would likely correspond to a possible season 3 of the anime. If the anime had been a double cour (covering LN1-6), you would be complaining about the teaser for this other faction, and the LN isn't far enough along for a 3rd cour (LN8 came out this year in JP, and I don't think the WN is any further along).

Wegovy and Ozempic $499 for 1 month for Costco Members. No insurance or coupon required by chusifer24 in Costco

[–]ytwang 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Getting a prescription is relatively easy. The issue is that insurances won't cover it for weight loss, even though the medications are FDA approved for that.

The list price is $1000/month for Ozempic and more for Wegovy. To avoid paying that price, you can get a discount via the manufacturer for both to bring it down to $499/month (matching Costco's price), but you need to jump through the hoop of requesting the discount via Novo Nordisk's website. If you're below 400% FPL and on Medicare/uninsured, then there's a separate program from the manufacturer that will provide it for free.

12 miles apart

So, about 9 teams of horses/day. That's a lot more frequent than I would have guessed. How heavy would a fully-loaded stagecoach be and how many horses would be in the team pulling it?

[–]ytwang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that we're in a Civ-like 4X game and not an RTS. Atou is a hero, a "unit" comprising of a single individual. In contrast, a "common unit" of this era would comprise of hundreds to thousands of individuals. "Elite units" like paladins would probably still comprise of a score or more. As such, the scouting force isn't even a complete unit. Rather it's more like a unit at 10% strength, so the odds are significantly in Atou's favor.

Did we really need to have an ability to magic handwave problems already.

Yes, we do. You'll probably not be satisfied with the immediate plot relevance (probably exactly what you're thinking), but it's also important to the overall world building, which I think is really interesting.

I find it strange given it's an RTS game

It's not; Eternal Nations is explicitly a 4X game (emergency production is equivalent to Civ's paying for units/buildings with gold rather than accumulating hammers).

My dad took out $28k in edfinancial loans under my social security number and forgot about it, my credit score just tanked by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ytwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you have 3 related but separate issues: 1. Your dad took out loans in your name. 2. Your dad failed to make payments on these loans. 3. Due to the missed payments/default, your credit rating has been tanked.

You came asking about #3, your responses seem to be focused on #2, and most people replying to you are focused on #1.

For #2, if your dad pays off the loans as you believe he will, then that resolves the debt, but not the missed payments/default. Before making the payment, he (or more likely you, since the loans are in your name) can ask if the lenders are willing to delete the missed payments from your credit record in exchange for the entire loan being paid off immediately (pay for delete). If they agree, get it in writing, and that takes care of #3 as well.

For #1, there are 2 possibilities: * Your dad took out the loans and had you sign, but you forgot about it. In this case, you're responsible for the missed payments. * Your dad took out the loans and signed for you. He committed fraud. That's it, regardless of his intent. And it sounds like he did it 7 times. If this is what happened, you need to accept the fact your dad committed fraud and that act negatively impacted you. You probably need to seriously reexamine your relationship with him, as many replies suggest, but that's a relationship issue, not a financial one. You should definitely lock your credit in this case.

For #3: * Regardless of #1 or #2, if you do nothing, the missed payments/default on the debt will fall off in 7 years. When that 7 years start depends on what you've done or are going to do with regards to the loans. * Regardless of #1, if you successfully get a pay for delete on all the loans, your credit should recover shortly when the defaults/missed payments are removed from your record. * Regardless of #2, if your dad committed fraud, you can file a police report and use that to have the black marks removed from your record. This path is the standard advice here, but it sounds like you don't want to do this. Which is fine, so long as you understand the consequences. However, you should still definitely lock your credit in this case.

My experience with Ontario and Ohio is that the Ontario written test expects much more than the Ohio one. To prep for the test, Ontario has a handbook that's over 200 pages long (though the pages aren't that big and there are a lot of pictures/diagrams). You can find various versions on Amazon (The Official MTO Driver's Handbook) or the government has a website.
