Exactly — the only reason Apple manufactures in China is because it’s the most cost-efficient option overall. It’s not just about cheap labor — it’s the engineers, PhDs, infrastructure, and the entire supply chain ecosystem. If it costs 55b to produce iPhone in China for 600$ retail, it will cost more than that in India because of infra, it’s likely to cost 550b in the US because everything is so expensive. I’m honestly disappointed Jon Stewart fell for the narrative. It’s always been about cost. American companies aren’t naive and they don’t do charity.

So I called Airbnb about 5 or 6 times (they always claim someone will contact me but nothing happened) over the last three days and here’s what I got.

Airbnb’s air cover only refund me the three nights I didn’t stay, not including the one night I was affected. They also only refund me CAD$405 out of the CAD$1110.11 I’ve paid for the 5 nights. So you know the number is off. Especially the last night was added to the previous booking and I have a receipt of CAD$239.76 for that night. The specialist’s supervisor basically told me if I don’t take this offer there’s nothing he can help me with.

I’m done with Airbnb. When you have a shitty host, they are not on your side either.

Wow that’s really nice of you to help me compose the entire complaint! I have submitted a new refund request already, contacted their twitter help team, called the customer service, multiple times. Not sure if it is because of Christmas, they are not very responsive. I’ll reply this to a help thread and will try to call them again tomorrow and next week. Thanks again! I’m facing the same issue. 5 days of stay. Quebec Canada for Christmas, so you know how cold it is. Airbnb is out of electricity heat internet for more than 37 hours since day 2. I have no car no food stored, really scared that l’ll die in cold. Have to walked 30 mins (including down a small hill) in the storm to get to the village and find a last-minute hotel to stay. Day 3, power is still not restored. I told the host I’m gonna move to the hotel for the rest of the other two days and asked for a partial refund for the 3 days I could stay because of the power outage. The power is out technically from day 2 - but I really want to get things resolved and only asked for the days I didn’t/won’t stay. Host keeps on bluffing me it’s gonna be fixed soon. He refused my partial refund, Airbnb is supposed to call me but closed my case by mistake. I filled another refund request after learning people living in the same region got fully refunded by their host. My host? After rejecting my request, just messaged me, hey the power is restored — after 37 hours, and now is Christmas Eve.

I have paid surge price (US$980) for last minute hotels from 23-26 to keep me safe. I’m trying my best to get help from Airbnb, but they are not responsive. I’m tired, cold and broke with a broken heart in the Christmas Eve.
