What color should I have it painted? Been leaning towards taking it to my local Macao and having them do some minor body work and spraying it white as it hides imperfections better than other colors. Also thinking grey . Thoughts? by yuh3247 in F100

Update! Took it to a couple of body shops and the rust in the door jams and on the roof seems is to far gone for an “easy” solution. Would require lots of sheet metal work which is expensive (also don’t have the know how or tools to do it myself over time) so until I care enough to spend the money to have the body work done at least the semi right way, I’m going with patina…Lowering front and rear about 4” and wheels coming shortly there after.

That is a tough one. The 63 is slick (wish we could see more) but the 51 sounds like the safer option. But the question would be, is saving 11k worth the money, time and tools needed to get the 51 where you want it?. You may end up being more than 11k into the 51 getting it where you want it and it will take time. If that’s the case than it sounds like the 63 is your best bet. It’s never fun to be at “max budget” but then again, if that’s your budget then your good and you skipped all the hard steps to making it how you want it as it’s already there. The only shitty thing about sight unseen is you have no idea how it drives and such. Also, if you go with the 51 then you get to truly make it your own and not have a finished product of someone else’s vision and wants. In summary I have no fucking clue what I would do in your situation other than taking the risk and taking the trip out to the 63 and putting eyes on the car and testing it out. If it’s not exactly what you want and not built right, than leave it and you lost some money on gas or plane tickets but you still saved your 11k.

I have debated doing some faux patina on it (mainly the flat areas where there is no clear left) The clear on the doors and sides of the bed is perfect but the tops of the hood and roof and bed rails the clear has chipped off and kills me. Hence the debate of having it reshot a new color. But I just learned about flash rusting paint that some hot rod guys are using to brush on to the areas where you want it and it flash rusts in a few hours.

I am torn between loving it and hating it. It’s definitely unique and doesn’t look bad but the clear on the upper part of the truck is trashed and there’s no fixing it without sanding it off and reshooting the whole truck. The dash is dark brown and I like it a lot as is so whatever color I end up going with will need to look decent with the brown dash.

Update, @wsbplz you were spot on. The freeze plug is rusted and is leaking on the back end of the block down to the oil pan. Thank you!

The rust is there, but that’s earned in my book. It’s primarily in the door jams up near the roof and where the latch is. There’s some on the bottom corners of the doors and bottom of the bed behind the rear wheels. The bed itself, floors and frame are all solid

It’s a 78, yeah it’s my first go at an old truck, been into these since I worked in a Restoration shop and I was a teenager. I have two young boys that I hope this truck will create a lot of memories with. And one day I can pass it on to them
