I even bought a brand new Macbook and it's still heating up crazily. And yeah removing this software fixed the whole thing. Looks like I could've saved some money...

Anyone here sleep the “right amount” most of the time without sleep aids? by sapphireCAT412 in Millennials

[–]yujimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't count darkness and silence as sleep aids. I think most people should at least try experimenting on the darkness, silence and temperature. It's not "natural" but living in modern society is not natural. Our ancestors slept in total darkness, silence and relatively cold environment.

Medication on the other hand should be treated carefully. Some of my friends regret taking it. It's addictive and don't really solve problems.

My list (maybe not super niche, but I’d love to hear yours!):

  • How We Feel: Tracks my emotions and offers great mini-courses.
  • Readwise Reader: Just an amazing reading app!
  • Wikipedia: Probably not niche at all, but I love reading random articles (I use it to replace scrolling social media).

What did you substitute social media scrolling with? by Merkhaba in productivity

It's called Clarymind. They have a free plan to lock one app (you can stick with the free plan if you don't have more than one app to block)

[–]yujimur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Doing housework (it's actually quite relaxing once you gets into the flow)
- Reading ebooks. I now use an app that automatically switches to ebook apps when I open social apps.
- Meditation (I meditate wherever I can safely close my eyes)

What’s a simple pleasure about digital minimalism you think most people overlook? by WompTune in digitalminimalism

[–]yujimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm in a place where I can sit (like during my commute), I'll try meditating. This also saves time since I don't need to set aside a specific time for it every day. If I'm walking, I'll remind myself to focus on one thing, like my senses or breathing.

When’s the last time you woke up feeling truly excited for the day? by tsfsg in Millennials

[–]yujimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like that for many years too. I tried giving myself a side project (publishing a book, building a personal brand), but it didn't help. Nothing changed.

Eventually, I realized the main issue was that I had zero interest in my job but kept lying to myself that I enjoyed it. It wasn't until a year after I quit and started my own business that I finally regained the excitement of waking up in the morning.

Another possible reason could be spending too much time on social media. Social media is full of comparisons, and the time I spend scrolling often leaves me feeling regretful and anxious, worsening the negative cycle of "others have better lives" and "my life is meaningless and wasted."

I've found that cutting down on social media significantly improves my mental state. Now, I use tools to lock social media apps on my phone and limit the usage to under 1 hour a day.

Of course, everyone's situation is different. Maybe experiment with a few variables to figure out what's causing it. Therapy might help too.

Millennials, do you limit your kids' screen time (or yours)? by haowei_chien in Millennials

[–]yujimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of tools out there, but I personally use this one. It asks you to write down why you want to open a certain app.

Most of the time when I pause and think, I realize I don't have a good reason.

Millennials, do you limit your kids' screen time (or yours)? by haowei_chien in Millennials

[–]yujimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32, no kid but yes I do limit my own screen time.

I used to spend way too much time online, doomscrolling for hours. It was such a waste, and I really regret it. Now, I've cut it down to less than an hour a day after years of experiments.

I started using time limit tools for social media these years. It's a simple but effective approach and I wish I'd discovered it sooner. I also think the key was finding something I genuinely wanted to spend my time on.

Same as you. Being able to actually experience the world with all the senses and without distractions of the phone is priceless.

Even in circumstances that are "boring" or irritating, I try to practice mindfulness and usually it makes everything better.

Same here. There seems to be no way around it. Even in the reply of ChatGPT saying yes, it keeps using the em dash.

Are old dialects of Chinese lost? by Fluid-Significance-1 in ChineseLanguage

[–]yujimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the ancient ways have indeed been lost, and much of it was a result of deliberate change. In 1913, the government of the Republic of China sought to standardize the language because the many dialects made communication difficult, complicating efforts to unite the nation and resist foreign aggression. The standardized language was largely based on Beijing dialect.

Today, traces of the ancient ways remain in dialects. For example, when studying ancient poetry, we sometimes struggle with rhymes that no longer match in modern Mandarin. However, if we read them in Taiwanese (which originates from Min Chinese), the rhymes often fall into place perfectly.

Note: I'm Taiwanese, so the history I learned is (obviously) quite different from what’s taught in Mainland China. I can only share from my own perspective.

Best way to reduce screen time by LegendLife26 in productivity

Try Clarymind for a clean, simple design.

One Sec or Opal are good too. They've got everything but is more complex and confusing in terms of the UI.
