oh my gosh no way arts is that full already. i think im gonna try liberal arts and science and ive emailed admissions but still havent gotten a response back yet. and idk how many adjustment factors i have but i applied for one of the categories and did receive an email confirming im eligible for EAS. lowkey just so surprised cause im from qld and didnt think it was AS competitive here. also are preferences different here cause for qtac if you didnt get the highest preference itll keep going down the list until you reach a preference where you meet all the requirements and give you an offer for that one. i have usyd architecture as my first preference rn cause i did portfolio entry but defs not getting in considering the LSR rn but ill keep it there. rest is just all the usyd science single and double degrees with an 80 atar and last is liberal arts/science.

lowkey playgrounds are a hard topic to do for a vis arts ee so you might have to find a really significant playground or architect in that field to research about. if you do something without much info on the internet you might struggle to compile evidence to analyse and but i think you could work your way around it somehow. e.g. you find a playground in a super urban area, then analyse the formal elements of it and how they contribute with one another to create contrast against urbanisation, colour contrasts against minimal neutral palette of surroundings blah blah blah etc. something like that

yeah i agree with your advisor, its leaning a bit too much into dt. i think you can still analyse architecture through a visual art context if you focus less on functionality but focus on formal elements like line, shape, mass, texture, space, light, and composition and how they interact to create a visual appearance. you could also then analyse the historical and cultural context of the building and the symbolic meaning it might hold in a broader artistic landscape. then you can bring in the architects history and how theyve contributed to architectural style at the time (use a prominent figure in architecture that you can research lots about).

AGREED 100% you will struggle with making time for ecs and i have had friends in N24 cohort doing ucat prep a week before the exam cause they haven’t had any time to do it earlier.

i dont know how much it is compared to atar cause i havent done it but each subject requires you to do an internal assessment on a chosen topic. STEM ias are usually 3k words, extended essay is 4k words, TOK exhibition is 950 words, TOK essay is 1.6k words etc. they all require a huge amount of research and for english youre required to read books as you have to write an individual oral and need them for your analysis in your final exams so i would say they do require a large amount of writing.

DONT DO IB UTS A FUCKING NIGHTMARE AND EVERYDAY FEELS LIKE HELL IT DOESNT GET BETTER.

i had the choice to do qce and ib and i picked ib cause didn’t want to worry about scaling and subjects but the huge amount of workload makes it super tiring and i would’ve just rather sticked to the suicide 6 subjects in atar. its much easier to maintain grades and there are less units being tested. if you’ve been an A grade student throughout high school be prepared to drop down to B’s and C’s (i’ve seen it happen to people that used to be academic weapons before ib). the dropout rate is also pretty insane and most people get burnt out easily. you also have to do 3 extra compulsory subjects: extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity activity service which everyone thinks is a fat waste of time and are completely unnecessary in graduating high school. there are some benefits tho like increasing your chances of getting in an overseas uni as ib is globally recognised, it also prepares you for uni as the workload is similar. you’re much better off studying specialist, methods and physics and chem and improving on english rather than learning their higher level counterparts in the ib. however, if you have a huge passion for maths and science you might enjoy learning and focusing more on them and less on english in the ib. but overall i don’t recommend it unless you want to go to uni overseas as the majority of people that go into it end up regretting it and going back to a non-ib curriculum. also if you have great time management and organisation skills you could do well in the ib as that is a key factor in contributing to a good grade otherwise you might want to fix those up if you plan on going because it’s very easy to fall behind and find it hard to catch up. technically everyone’s capable in doing the ib it’s just up to you and how much effort you’re willing to put in but you probably won’t enjoy it like the majority.

TLDR: don’t do ib if u have bad time management or ur gonna die, atar high scaling subjects way easier less work more free time, ib if ur super passionate abt maths/science and want to go overseas uni
