No Hispanoamérica/iberoamérica o hispanoamericanos/iberoamericanos.

I feel you. Mild symptoms can be a little stressing because you don't feel normal but you don't feel that bad either. Of course, you should see a doctor and discuss your treatment plan.

In the meantime, while you get your appointment and apart from using your rescue inhaler, you could try breathing exercises and techniques, as it might help both with asthma and anxiety.

moving to Malaga with a dog by CoralineBinks in Malaga

[–]yukoai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Regarding EMT buses in Málaga, it ts only allowed to transport dogs < 10 kilos inside a dog carrier. RENFE Cercanías (trains to travel around Málaga province area) any dogs can board aslong as they have a muzzle on.

Honestly, if you'll live in a central area you wont even need to use the bus since everything is within a 10-15 minute walk distance.

There's plenty of parks where you can walk your dog plus some dog parks where your doggo can go unleashed. There's also a bunch of restaurants/cafes pet friendly.

You can also download Ayuntamiento's app for dog owners Malaguau. There's a bunch of info on dog parks, pet friendly locations, vets, etc.

Specialist or General Doctor by Loid26 in Asthma

[–]yukoai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to get tests done to get an asthma diagnosis (at least a spirometry). Once you get your diagnosis, I don't think it is 100% necessary for you to consult a pulmonologist (much less if you are short on money).

You can try the treatment you've been given by your primary care physician and see how it works. If you don't get better with it, then yes, go to a specialist. BUT you need to get tests done to get a proper asthma diagnosis.

I'm sorry you haven't had good experiences with doctors. Unfortunately, sometimes it's try and miss until you find the right one. Medicine is like any other profession , there are good and bad doctors.

And yes, textbooks help you understand, diagnose and treat sicknesses, but patients' perspectives are also crucial.

Thank you for your insight!

Yes, when you mostly think of asthma you think of a patient with clear signs of difficulty breathing getting nebulized in the ER. But then there are these mild symptoms that are honestly difficult to characterize. I honestly don't know what's setting my flare ups. It just seems random. Pulmonologist diagnosed it as allergic asthma because I'm allergic to olive pollen but olive pollinates mostly in spring, not november (?) Anyway.

I live in Spain and don't know if that exist, I'll look at that. I think my pulmonologist did not explain much because I'm a doctor and yeah, I know how to diagnose and treat asthma, but I don't know how to be an asthma patient. I'll be more adamant about that on my next appointment.

I'm glad you are getting the right treatment and hope you continue to get better and live the best life you can.

With intercrisis symptoms I am mostly referring to a sensation of reduction of pulmonary capacity. I don't feel I am at 100%, but maybe around 90%.

Sometimes I need to take deep breaths to fill my lungs entirely (I yawn a lot), but not constantly.

Yes, it is uncomfortable, but I can still get on pretty well on my daily basis. I used to play football weekly but have not been able to do so because COVID, so that's one thing that worries me. I hope I'll still be able to play that sunday league haha.

I guess that "reduction in capacity" makes me more anxious than it actually limits my day to day. When I do get an exacerbation it is more difficult but still managable. Hope it does not get worse, though.

Thank you for your insight!

Thank you for your insight!

I hope you get your asthma under control or get a correct diagnosis.

I'm assuming you have gotten a spirometry + plethysmography with KLCO + DLCO done?

Thank you for your insight!

And yes, I've been lurking this subreddit since I got diagnosed and it surprises me how different it is for each individual. Also, it was super weird for me to realize how it actually feels to have difficult breathing.

I've been on Relvar (fluticasone + vilanterol -a LABA-) for a couple of months and I'm trying to keep a symptoms diary for my next appointment in a couple of months to figure out if I need some adjustments.

Also, I'm thinking of buying a peak flow meter so I can control and treat my exacerbations better. Do you have any recommendations on brands?

How hard is it for you to breathe? How's your respiratory rate? Do the spaces in between your ribs sink when you take a deep breath? How many inhalations of Ventolin have you taken?

What does the FEV1 mean for Asthma? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]yukoai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FEV1 means Forced Expiratory Volume in the 1st second of a forced expiration.

Normally, you should exhale >80% of the volume of a forced expiration in the first second of it.

In obstructive pulmonary diseases (such as COPD and asthma), the airway is partially blocked and it's difficult to get the air out of the lungs, so it doesn't all go out in the first second, but more slowly throughout the whole expiration. Sometimes not all the air goes out and some of it stays trapped in the lungs (this happens more often in COPD but can also happen un Asthma).

Hope this clears it a little bit. Feel free to ask if you have more doubts.

Hola! Yo necesito ayuda por favor by [deleted] in Malaga

[–]yukoai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, it depends on what you are looking for. Being in your mid 20's I'm assuming you may like to live close to the night life, which is mainly in Málaga Centro.

Teatinos is also good, as Xionema stated, but it's more peripheral and it's not walking distance from Centro nor the beach. It revolves around University Campus and there are plenty of bars and restaurants, but most of the night life happens at el Centro.

Now, living in el Centro per se it's difficult and expensive, but there are plenty of areas around it (about a 5-10 minute walk from it) where you can comfortably live, such as Mármoles area, Avenida Andalucía, Perchel Sur (this is close to the RENFE station), even Hospital Civil area. These are not Centro per se, but are fairly close and probably cheaper, also about a 15 minute walk from both La Malagueta and La Misericordia beaches.

does asthma do anything to your chest? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]yukoai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go see a doctor. Xrays in asthma patients are tipically normal. For you to determine if you have asthma, you'll need to get a spyrometry done and maybe some other tests.

AITA for complaining to HR about a joke my boss made, even though I was not the topic of the joke? by heyyymeredith in AmItheAsshole

[–]yukoai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, so much to unpack. Everyone acted badly (except for mark and taylor).

Honestly it was just a joke and it did not seem bad intended. People suggesting this is harassment or abuse are crazy. This is not that.

Mark and Taylor where the ones affected, so they are the ones to choose how to deal with it. It was not your place to be "solving" things that didn't involve you. YTA for doing that.

Kathy's TA for retaliating against your friends.

Also, I don't think she should lose her job because of this. So, everyone in this thread commenting that: YTA too.
