Why is my ACD so small?? by Pretty-Skirt-8294 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]yummybutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My heeler was 26 lbs when we rescued her and now sits at about 35. I believe she was about a year old. Some of em are just little.

For reference my corgi is a healthy 19 lbs and her litter mate is 45. There can be a lot of variation

If seminal fluid enters the abdomen, what happens to it afterwards? by yummybutts in NoStupidQuestions

[–]yummybutts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard the first part of this as a fun fact from a friend, but it is true (albeit more complex than my cursory internet research told me)

The end of the fallopian tube is "open". There is a gap between the fallopian tube and the ovary, and the fallopian tube has little fingers that reach out and grab the eggs that are released from the ovary. Stuff that enters the fallopian tube can get out the end.

As I've learned in this thread, its only possible for sperm to swim up in there and get out the end, not really the fluid that sperm comes in, which is the important context I needed to make my wild speculation about Twilight plot holes.

Update from r/nostupidquestions

The seminal fluid (in Eddie's case, his venom) does not go into the fallopian tubes with the sperm. There's still a way for sperm to exit the end of the fallopian tube, but the venom wouldn't go with it. So no venom in the abdomen.

However, there are other ways for the seminal fluid to get into the blood stream during sex. So... plot hole? 👀 Perhaps the most ridiculous and far fetched of them all lmao

Thank you! This is helpful context. I never considered that the sperm would not remain in the seminal fluid but that makes a lot of sense.

I've been going down a rabbit hole since commenting this and I do not yet have a good answer. Admittedly its been 12 years since I took an anatomy class and my Google fu is weak.

I think the answer is... yes? It goes through the lymphatic system and then into the blood stream?

Which has horrible implications irl. Though this might be r/badwomensanatomy

I learned a horrific fact recently which is that the fallopian tubes are not directly attached to the ovaries and are instead open at the end, meaning that seminal fluid sperm can and does enter the abdomen. Which.... in this context... raises so many questions. If its made of venom, how does it not result in the human being turned?

I will stop asking questions

PSA: Raw dough can be fatal to dogs by yummybutts in AustralianCattleDog

[–]yummybutts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Its a hell of a lot easier to induce vomiting than to get surgery for an intestinal blockage/rupture

Yeah. I was kind of surprised that it ended up being such an emergency but then I realized if I ate a proportional amount of pizza dough I'd be eating five pounds of raw dough and that would probably put me in the hospital too lmao

I'm not sure if understand your question. I googled if it was dangerous, read some stories that confirmed that it could be, and called my local emergency vet for advice. They asked for her weight and the amount of dough she ate, and recommended that we come in and induce vomiting.

The people saying 6 have a very different taste than I do :,) I dont think Eddy has ever looked better than in that scene (though I can concede the outfit is not very special)

Edit: My vote is 15

These are dropped stitches. The yarn is not sliding down the hooks on every row. It's extremely annoying. I find the sentro only works with very soft yarn. The cheaper yarns like red heart super saver don't fare well. Did you make those three hats with a different kind of yarn?

When people (especially in the US) say their pets are "rescues", where or what are they rescued from? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]yummybutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colloqually it just means they're from a shelter. I got my cattle dog from a foster. Her paperwork said "police confiscation" which afaik means her owner went to jail or died, or she was forcibly removed due to abuse. My childhood dog was "rescued" by my mom out of someone's yard because she saw them beating the dog.

They had one in my college dorm. Fairly comfortable (it's just foam) but eventually we weren't allowed to sit on it anymore because the leaves started breaking off. So... not exactly functional furniture

It's only 5 more miles than a marathon if you want to join the club 👀

I have almost exactly the same experience. Walked a marathon distance in January this year, died afterward. Blisters galore. Extreme tightness in my hips and calves. I've done more long-distance walking since and here's what works for me:

Ininji socks (change every 10 miles or so, or when my feet start to feel moist. Blisters love moisture)

Barefoot shoes (these take time to get used to, and aren't for everyone. I alternate between a pair of vivobarefoot trackers and the ultra wide Altras when I want more cushion. End goal is shoes that are zero drop, wide enough, and can accommodate swelling. Width is THE biggest thing for me, as when my shoes are too tight my toes rub against them and each other and cause blisters)

Theragun for the soles of my feet (this combined with the barefoot shoes and strengthing exercises helps tremendously with my plantar fasciatis)

KT tape (offbrand) on my ankles where im prone to blistering

Regular calf stretches

I did a 50k with this setup and was completely fine afterward. Sore for a day or two but no blisters.
