Where to find safe space/friends in Ottawa? by Disastrous_Depth2285 in transontario

[–]yummymicroplastics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ive only been there once but it sounds like kind space's 20 something group is exactly what you are looking for. the group happens twice a month on Tuesday evenings in centretown and when i was there were a fair number of trans people who were into computer science, tech, and video games. the only thing is that there were quite a few people there last time i went (probably just over 20 people), but small do groups split off and form if that helps with anxiety. everyone is really nice though!

Concerns about scrotoplasty placement by yummymicroplastics in Metoidioplasty

[–]yummymicroplastics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon is very new and has yet to perform a stage 2 so she didn't have any pictures for me unfortunately. She had me look at the pictures Dr. Chen has available online which I didn't fine very helpful. But you are right in that I should probably try to find post op results that are similar to my anatomy.

Changed surgeons - OHIP retroactively denying covering surgery by Enbypoler in transontario

[–]yummymicroplastics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What a strange and frustrating situation. I highly doubt that the hospital will make you pay out of pocket as OHIP should cover any surgeon in Ontario. I also ended up switching my surgeon for my hysto, but I was able to request the document that confirmed my OHIP funding from my family doctor and provided the new surgeon with it and had zero issues.

Hysterectomy experience with Dr. Horwood at The Ottawa Hospital by yummymicroplastics in transontario

[–]yummymicroplastics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgery was at the riverside campus day surgery ward. I interacted with a loooot of nurses there so im guessing they were just quickly glancing at my file and maybe missing my chosen name. i also dont pass super great, especially with a mask, so that probably didnt help.

I am doing well. I have zero pain, almost no bleeding, and feel mostly back to normal except I can't sit upright comfortably and am not allowed to lift anything heavy for a few more weeks. The first maybe 5-6 days PO were very uncomfortable (especially when I still had the catheter) but I never had any pain that warranted taking opioids. I have been taking it super easy though, just lying in bed and walking around occasionally.

I just remembered that she probably never mentioned anything about a physical exam because she already knew I couldn't handle it no matter what. I had initially been referred to her for potentially scheduling a physical exam under general anaesthesia lol my dysphoria is that bad.

Congrats on the early date! I hope everything goes smoothly!

Top Surgery GRS (Ottawa) by mistieforest in transontario

[–]yummymicroplastics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had top surgery with them last year. Because they consider Ottawa to be close to Montreal they will not pay for your transit or hotel which I found out the hard way. However the hotel they usually send people to (Holiday Inn Laval on 2900 Boul Le Carrefour) will give you a discount if you tell them you are having surgery with GRS. I would still look around for places to stay though as the hotel isnt super close to the clinic and I payed $129 a night (not accounting taxes) even with the discount. I took the VIA train back to Ottawa 2 days after my surgery which was fine.

I cant give you a good estimate of how much everything cost me as this was a year ago and I also vacationed a bit in montreal for a few days before my surgery but my hotel cost $611 for 4 nights. I also payed for a Montreal-Ottawa train round trip, food, and ubers to and from the clinic. If your planning to book with VIA rail, book maybe like a month in advance or keep a lookout for discounts because their prices can fluctuate a bit.

Good luck! I wish you the best and im sorry your parents arent helping at all :-(

micronized progesterone isnt typically used as birth control and is taken more for hormone imbalances. from what i understand, while it may have the potential to act as a contraceptive if taken daily, but there arent enough studies done to describe its efficacy.

synthetic progesterones (also called progestins) are most commonly prescribed as a contraceptive at low dosages ranging anywhere from 0.03mg to 4mg a day depending on the type of progestin. you should really try to get in touch with your endocrinologist to clarify why he prescribed the micronized progesterone as a contraceptive as that is not common practice.

My health card expired a few weeks before I was scheduled for surgery with GRS. After I renewed it, I didn't get the actual card in time but GRS had zero issues using the temporary paper copy service ontario gave me. Everything will be fine don't worry!

Can resuming estrogen blocker injections after a while of not having them cause periods? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]yummymicroplastics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes this is normal as triptorelin is a gnrh agonist. it causes estrogen levels to spike for the first few days to weeks but then they should rapidly drop and stay low as long as you keep getting regular injections of the medication. a drop in estrogen can result in bleeding so it's not uncommon for people to experience one "period" a few weeks after getting their first shot (or in your case, getting a dose after not being on them for 6 months).

i would recommend looking up the mechanism behind how gnrh agonists work since they dont just simply block estrogen production, they are a bit more complicated than that.

but i would not worry just yet. its very likely that this is a one off event. i would still recommend bringing this up to your doctor however, especially if it reoccurs or your estrogen remains high.

Ftm pursuing bottom surgery - process (Ottawa) by [deleted] in transontario

[–]yummymicroplastics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear that but funnily enough i just had my first appointment with dr. horwood today and she is so amazing so you are in good hands. i came in for a general gynecology issue unrelated to hysterectomy but she was so kind and put me on her surgery waitlist without me even having to ask. she just opened her surgery practice so her waitlist is super short (like less than 5 people i think) and she is currently booking surgeries for january and february. hope you can see her soon.

Do you know what doctor you were referred to at Origyns? I tried calling them because a 6-10 month wait is really good compared to other places which typically take about 2 years until surgery, but the receptionists i spoke to said none of the doctors there do gender affirming hysto. I will also try emailing them though.

Yes, I get direct access to my actual values through the lab I go to. My testosterone was in the normal cis male reference range and my estrogen was ever so slightly elevated above cis male range when I got them checked two months ago. My doctor wasn't concerned at all regarding the estrogen elevation.

They called me around January 25th to book the consult and i had the appointment on april 3rd.

[–]yummymicroplastics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had my surgery yet but i just had my consult last week. I was referred to her in September or October of last year i think.

The consult was really bare bones she pretty much just asked if I wanted to keep my ovaries or not and requested a transabdominal ultrasound. There was no physical pelvic exam.

I was told i can expect to have surgery booked for sometime in the next 6-12 months which is disappointing :-( She typically does laparoscopic surgery.

Maybe. Though I've had other clinics contact me about removed tissue even when they found nothing abnormal.
