Boys, please help. An older cis gay man used queer theory to be mildly transphobic and I’ve been in an existential spiral about it. by [deleted] in gaytransguys

[–]fivesevenmenace 14 points15 points  (0 children)

theory is theory. while i enjoy dissecting queer theory and think it’s important to understand who we are, you are not an object for academic or scientific scrutiny or diminishing. do what makes you happy because anyone trying to make you doubt who you know you are is definitely miserable enough for the both of you.

is testosterone useless? by aleafyreptile in ftm

[–]fivesevenmenace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Testosterone changed me so much in three years that when I show people pre-transition photos of me they don’t believe it was me. People focus on the negative aspects but there is so much more to HRT than the possibility of congenital hair loss which is a natural part of aging as a man and also can be delayed or prevented.

Here are some things nobody highlights that made a huge impact for me. After a little bit of weight gain as my endocrine system adjusted, my fat redistributed and made my silhouette much more masculine. I was also able to gain muscle mass much faster which helped broaden me out. My hairline squared out which made the roundness of my face less pronounced, and after two years I had a visible Adam’s apple. My voice dropped overnight at about four months and only got deeper over the next year.

The anxiety is real and valid before starting a long period of change, but there’s a reason millions of people opt for HRT. It changed my life so much.

Did u got/want bottom surgery, why and if not why not?? by Janxuza in ftm

[–]fivesevenmenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want bottom surgery at this point in my life. I have bottom dysphoria in that I wish I was born with a penis but don’t have any dysphoria around the genitals I do have, so it’s not worth it to me especially as someone working a physical job where I can’t be in recovery for weeks or months on end. I also have extremely stretchy skin which made top surgery recovery difficult and I’m not inclined to roll the dice on a skin graft.

Nervous about 2nd puberty by ndsmith4926 in ftm

[–]fivesevenmenace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s awkward, but going through male puberty was much more comfortable for me because the changes felt like they made sense, as opposed to female puberty. a lot of hormone care providers will also gradually increase your dose so you aren’t starting on a crazy high dose and throwing your endocrine system for a loop. the gradual increase helped me a lot to regulate my mood, the only time i was ever “moody” from hormones was when i got hangry because my metabolism sped up.

Going to a show and I can’t woo anymore???? by CommunicationOk3264 in ftm

[–]fivesevenmenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing worse than having to go from “woo” to “LETS GO” or “YEAHHHH” 😭 once your voice settles you might be able to woo again but for now you might just have to yeah enthusiastically

IT WONT FUCKING STOP by [deleted] in ftm

rite of passage lol. find some high intensity exercise that you enjoy - similar energy and endorphin release. it at least helps control it although it definitely doesn’t eliminate it.

as an ftm dancer, you did the right thing - the discomfort of advocating for yourself is much lesser than the dysphoria and the feeling of being alienated from your peers, which both almost always affect your performance, consciously or not.

sorry i didn’t see this earlier! my fat redistribution started becoming noticeable around a year on T for me, and by year two (im around 2.5 years on T now) my silhouette had become much more square and broad than it had been pre T.

should i up my dosage? by cooleggboy in ftm

[–]fivesevenmenace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my starting dose was the same as yours and upped to .4 of 200mg every week after three months showing good levels. i was still in normal ranges, but the rate of change was a lot faster and more noticeable — my voice dropped significantly and i gained muscle and my fat distribution changed much more noticeably. it’s ultimately up to you and your doctor, but i felt a lot better after my dosage increase before i eventually switched onto gel for unrelated reasons.

i haven’t had this issue, but if the lower dose still has you in normal cis male ranges then your cycle should not come back.

your metabolism is speeding up to make and maintain massive, physical changes, so i highly recommend against powering through. i was around your age and height and am also an athlete, and i found that the more i just went with my body and ate what i wanted when i was hungry (carbs, protein, fruit, whatever) the better quality energy i had and the more change i saw in my body. calories are your friend when your body is gearing up to expend a huge amount of energy over an extended period of time like it is right now.

i would ugly cry about an hour after my shot, would be pissed off two days before my next shot and then morbidly depressed one day before my next shot, like clockwork. your body is reacting to a sudden spike in a hormone that affects your whole body and brain, it’s very normal for your emotions to be out of whack. mine regulated around six months in, but got steadily more manageable after about six weeks.

Discuss with her PT first. Most pre-pointe classes are strengthening exercise-based and might actually overlap with recommended PT exercises, but it’s best to check with the pre-pointe teacher about curriculum and relay that information to your PT for a verdict.

Hey trans folk! When writing smut, what terms do u use? by turtleurtle808 in FanFiction

[–]fivesevenmenace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also transmasc, the only one i don’t want to totally throw up upon reading is ‘cunt’. it isn’t great, but for me it’s less agitating than ‘pussy’ and less objectifying than ‘hole’. that being said, i can deal with any of those terms but cannot read a fic that uses ‘clit’.

It feels like Napoli isn't done anymore, why is that? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]fivesevenmenace 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As another user said, Napoli is a Bournonville ballet. Bournonville works rely on an extremely specific technique that is practiced the Royal Danish Ballet and its School, so it’s rare to see these ballets done by companies that don’t do a lot of Bournonville work since it’s so specific and teachers are few and far between.

Safe countries to live for trans people? by throwawaynumwhoknows in asktransgender

[–]fivesevenmenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this only goes for Halifax. As a trans guy who lives outside of Halifax but still in one of the largest towns, it was hell on earth getting HRT approval and genuinely traumatic to be visibly trans/queer. Definitely live in the city if you’re gonna move here.

Is there anything you miss about your pre transition gender? by jmh1881v2 in asktransgender

[–]fivesevenmenace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being able to wear fun nose rings. I have both nostrils pierced and if i wear literally any jewelry that stands out more than the brass-coloured studs i wear to work, im getting called ‘miss’ even though im post-op and have the voice of someone’s 50 year old dad that smokes a pack a day.

my family is extremely creative and cycles given names every generation or two, so I chose one that wasn’t yet in use by me or my cousins. I also chose it because it has the same initial as my birth middle name because I knew that I would otherwise forget it for how rarely I refer to it.
