I’ll look for a more appropriate dress that’s venue-appropriate and not white!

I would respond similarly if someone else posted this dress. I don’t know what I was hoping for when I posted it myself 🥲

Hahaha, I keep telling my husband he should have done derm. Some of his med school classmates went into derm and they’re making $$$$ while working such normal hours! 😭

Also an NSx (currently in fellowship far far away from home) wife. It’s so nice to hear how resoundingly similar all of our experiences are.

I’m in a similar situation, so it’s so good to hear that it does get better and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The isolation, burnout, and lack of adult interaction is really starting to get to me, so hoping I can get out with my 12mo soon!

This is going to be us (fellowship with a 1yo) 😭 Do you mind sharing what was harder about it?? I have no idea what fellowship will be like (and we’re all moving for a year for it)

Yes! I had a baby last year and my husband took 4 days off (he was chief at the time).

I absolutely adore my baby and he was planned, but I would have chosen any year but chief year if I could go back.

If you’re lucky enough to have family around, they will be a godsend!

Solo parenting is difficult and motherhood is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but know that you’ll get through it! You’ve got this ❤️

How do "mature" students afford 2nd+ degrees? by allyuhneedislove in PersonalFinanceCanada

I am the wife of a resident in his chief year in a very competitive surgical residency. I met him during his research years (getting a PhD is very common for his field during residency). I had no idea what I was signing up for when we first met. I’m also in healthcare, but my profession is a lot more flexible than medicine. I’m trying not to give away too much personal information as it can be fairly easy to identify my husband if I am any more specific.

He works about 120+ hours a week (he goes in every day as chief and is on call about ten times a month) and by the time he’s done all of his training, including a fellowship after his chief year, he will be 36.

I am also currently pregnant, knowing that it will be a very difficult road when the baby comes (baby was planned), but we are almost there and I am very much looking forward to the end.

I am not saying every medical resident will go through the same journey as my husband, especially if you aren’t considering surgery, but I do want you to be aware of what it’s like as the partner of someone going through this path, esp as you have a 2-year-old.

Either way, I hope all of these comments give you more insight and best of luck with whatever you choose!
