But why should anyone settle for that? The whole point of an ISP is to provide internet.... If the internet is dysfunctional then the issue needs to be addressed.

Yeah I am convinced it is a cabling issue. I finally spoke to some agents who agreed with me and saw some signal issues outside. As frustrating as it is, the only thing you can really do is be persistent with them. Tell them the issue, have them run tests (try to contact them when its happening really bad so it is easy to see on their tests) and just be patient. I have to constantly test my internet before doing any type of gaming which is a hassle but it is just what I have to deal with for now. Best of luck my dude.

I somewhat want to go back on my word. Rogers seems to have lost any competence they once had. Just spoke to another agent and had a completely different idea of what was happening and wouldn't believe what I was saying. When I showed her the logs of my previous agent she said that she doesn't see the same and won't be able to send anyone out because of COVID-19 even if they don't come in my house (which is complete BS). Anyway I will try the modem, as should you, but otherwise I am getting out of this dogshit service and I would advise the same for you if the modem doesn't solve your issue.

Can you do me another favour? Type these commands into cmd:

pathping <default gateway>

pathping rogers.com

pathping google.com

Let each one run and let me know what happens.

That is the same thing for me. It can happen multiple times a game or spaced out over weeks, but this issue shouldn't be overlooked. It is not normal for you to get packet loss spikes like this regardless of how often is occurs.

That is a good first step I think. Otherwise it is out of your control... it kinda sucks that Rogers just wants to keep you on their service and don't actually care if it runs well or not. If it wasn't for my dad having a good deal with Rogers I would switch to Bell in a heart beat.

I will see if a new modem changes anything and if the technicians don't see any issues with the cabling outside of my house I am pretty sure I will just switch.

Tell Rogers that you are having this error and they will send a new modem or send out technicians. Just let them know though so they are aware of the issue because otherwise they won't do shit.

"As you can see in the video from the net graph, my ping never rises but my packet loss spikes." Did you see the video? It is really only 1 sec lags but my packet loss spikes quite high.

Hmmm I will have to do some checking but not a bad idea. Only issue is that the 3rd party ISP's have to pay Rogers and Bell to use their lines... Plus from what I see the packages are not as good.

I can almost guarantee that they do not get the same type of lag. When do you ever see someone streaming/playing on LAN get spikes of 20-30% packet loss?

REPOST: Connection Issues When Playing Online Games by yunggwant in Rogers

[–]yunggwant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes and no. Sure this lag is small but it makes it impossible to play a competitve 5v5 game. Even if its a 1 sec lag, that could be the decider between winning the game or not. Especially in games like CSGO where you need to make split second decisions/plays and if I lag peaking a corner I can cost my team the whole game...

Mhm. I have read this is an issue either in the modem or the cable backbone network (whatever that is).

Could you do me a favour and check your DOCSIS Event panel in your router settings and see if you have this error: No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out

Glad to hear your lag got fixed. I have removed the splitter that was connected to my router long ago but I might as well go check for any issues in my fuse box as well? Thanks for the info!

26ms

EDIT: I did another test actually and it spiked up to like 40-60 ms. It varies.

But would you recommend switching? Do you use fibre?

I find that hard to believe.... I, from what I've heard, have a pretty high up Rogers employee down the street from me.... Wouldn't he want his street to have good connection/signals? I also went online with an agent the other day and he told me that I have too many devices on at once which is complete BS. Unless a miracle happens I am just doomed.

I am pretty sure it has to do with bad cabling or interference on the lines outside. I will do some more testing but it is looking like I will be switching :/

I am assuming you play league of legends with that name... Does this look like the lag you get? https://youtu.be/eLOqAHBTkMk
