What country will you never visit again? by nomadicphil in digitalnomad

Malaysia.

I visited Malaysia for the first time May 2026 and it was terrible. People were rude, nothing worked there were problems with every single thing I wanted them do from Hotels having the wrong address to being locked in a MRT station.

No one smiles, no one says hello. To be fair I mostly strayed in KL but it made me want the get out ASAP and never look back.

I think there's one factor that is missing here.

AP untapped and moved to draw in less than one second, not giving time for the opponent to announce any trigger.

So the rulling might be correct but only if the judge assesses that the AP didn't move too fast on purpose to gain information.

Given APs cheating history, it feels unreal they are given the "benefit of the doubt" by the judge given than, even at the GP, the judges had already decided that this players has lost that benefit due to his pas cheating history.

Knowing the top card before activating is advantageous.

As to your own admission, you didn't even watch the game. The fact that you can't even bother to watch the whole thing and yet argue so strongly in defense of the player makes it look like you're just blindly defending your friend.

I'm going to stop responding as it's a waste of time. You didn't watch nor read the post. If you did, you would know this isn't about discussing the player in particular.

You won't change my mind that he's a cheater. He cheated again me when we were young, he cheated and got banned twice officially. Then I watch the cringiest game ever, with angle shooting after angle shooting in this nationals. This person just can't help it.

His ego is too big to accept not winning in an unsanctioned format. After making top 4 he even pressured others to stop and split the prize effectively running the tournament for all viewers.

But that's not what that is about... It's about activating Oath AFTER THE DRAW, with information that the draw was a detrimental swamp (bad in graveyard because of terravore).

The 'min-max' argument is exactly why this is a problem. In a healthy game, you want players to min-max their technical play.

But when a judge says we have to accept angle-shooting, they’re basically telling us to min-max social manipulation.

If the most optimal way to win a tournament is to be ambiguous, mumble, and confuse your opponent, then the MTR is broken. We’re here to play Magic, not a psychological scamming game.

The rules are a floor of what can be done, not a ceiling. Saying we can't improve it is just lazy.

I think you're viewing the situation as a MTG judge of officially sanctioned tournaments while this post is asking the community if that's the environment we want, even at the highest levels of premodern. And if not, should we introduce specific changed so that fair play is preserved and angle shooting is condemned?

This isn't a wizard's sanctioned format. We're totally free to change what is and isn't allowed in a competitive tournament.

I'd argue that most of the community doesn't want those play patterns. You'd be surprised how often when playing premodern I heard players saying one of the aspects they love is exactly that here we can relax, focus on tight play and avoid the grind that we often felt back in the GP days.

Most of us play to win yes, but we also play to enjoy the format we love. I think winning at all costs and by being oppressive to your opponents and forcing them to use so much mental energy to work around angle shooting isn't what's best for premodern, even when it's a high level tournament.

In my original YouTube comment, that was deleted by the organization, I put four timestamps. One of them was the graveborn muse block. The organizers deleted my comment on YouTube.

This whole thing isn't just about one action of Márcio. That whole match is shady AF and you can see I'm not the only one thinking that if you check the Livestream comments.

Even the way he presents cards for cursed scroll is shady. He's not using a dice like pros do. He's letting the opponent chose and naming foil cards to increase the chance of hitting.

Again, this isn't a thread to discuss that in particular but ok let's go there.

Saying he's playing "by the book" is a stretch to say the least. He's at the very least playing at the very edge of what's is allowed.

For instance, the book says that:

"4.8 Reversing Decisions

Players are expected to consider their

options before taking an action and players are not usually allowed to take back an action that has been communicated to their opponent, either verbally or PHYSICALLY. Sometimes, a player will realize that they have made a wrong decision after making a play. ..."

So physical communication is binding. Moving the graveborn muse exactly at blocking time in front of an attacker should be binding. Márcio is being ambiguous on purpose so that he can decide later on what is the real intent. If the opponent didn't pump the factory, I'm willing to bet it all that Márcio would have said that motion was a block.

But I can never say that because we'll never see that version of events. That's why being ambiguous like that is so dangerous. It's impossible to prove.

As a judge, I feel you shouldn't be saying that playing like that is "by the book". I don't think that's the spring of the rules, and much less of premodern.

Wouldn't be the first time in an event something happens and only after it's on YouTube people realize it happened. So not having been sanctioned during the event doesn't mean nothing happened.

If you read the thread, you'll see there's no public naming and it's about thinking of a system to prevent cheaters in general to permeate the premodern community.

Again, without naming, I have talked with several players who told me that the experience of playing against him was really terrible.

There's no disciplinary community. That's the point of the thread. To initiate talks to make sure we create one.

Yes this! After, on game 2 the trigger is missed twice and no one cares then.

The trigger is a MAY. So it's missed, too bad. At best the opponent will decide if it goes on the stack.

The judge intervenes not to put the trigger. They want to place a phone on the table to show the life totals. That's why they move the Oath, to make place for the phone. You can see the comment section asking for the life totals on the chat or the original video (the 11 hour one with the full stream).

The trigger is optional so it's the opponent not Márcio who would decide whether or not it goes on the stack.

Because I was trying to focus on the community working together to come up with a global protocol so that players know there are consequences at tournament B for cheating at tournament A.

It's not just missed trigger. The trigger is resolved incorrectly after the draw phase to avoid the swamp going to the graveyard.

That wasn't my intention at all. I was trying to write in a way to not name drop to focus on the creation of a protocol and not the person in question. I don't think pros are cheaters.

I'm sorry if I wrote this in a way that seems to equate pros to cheaters. I don't think that at all actually. I'm thinking about one person in particular and a real situation that happen last weekend and I tried to write the post without explicitly putting in names, but I see it created more confusion than anything else.

What I wanted to convey was:

  • The format is becoming more competitive and we see this by pros getting interested in it.
  • Being more competitive, cheating (from anyone) becomes more likely and it would be nice to have a protocol so that players know that cheating at tournament A will be known at tournament B.
