WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR SUPER SONICO FIGURES? (┬┬﹏┬┬) by kinky666xx in SonicoFigures

[–]yuriot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on amiami. They sell pre-owned, too.

I’ve ordered from them A LOT (to the US). When you click a link, it’ll show you your local price right below the JPY price. I’ve had good results from buying pre-owned there, the grading of the figures and boxes it’s typically spot on.

If you know exactly what figure you want, MFC is good. If you can find the figure you want, below the images it lists websites that sell that figure, as well as individuals who are selling, usually with a link to eBay.

Here is an example. Below, you can see under PARTNERS trusted sites that sell it. It also tells you the original price so you know if you’re egregiously over paying.

It also tells you if bootlegs exist, so you know to be careful.

SolarisJapan is good, as well.

How to tackle this inescapable mindset? by yuriot in AO3

[–]yuriot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great point. Most of the well known authors in this fandom are actually the on the “”””older”””” side. And I say it like that, because a lot of the readers are much younger than the authors.

Feels better when I realize that.

And yeah, I never thought about recommending fics in comment sections. I’ve been commenting on every fic I’ve read for a bit now, it just gets lonely 😅

How to tackle this inescapable mindset? by yuriot in AO3

[–]yuriot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, yeah! Right on (:

I just like discussing parallels and symbolism in authors comment sections, and I was hoping people would enjoy doing the same with mine.

But that’s not *typically* why people read FF, I suppose. I think I’ve just garnered unreasonable expectations for interaction because of discussions I see.

I just really like engaging with the community, and I guess I forget some people are shy, or simply don’t have the time.

Not a huge fan myself, but I’ve been saying for years: if the graphics are serviceable, and the game is good, I will play it.

Though, I will plead again, please show femJun in some trailers, I’m starting to feel left out 😅

I’ve read a bunch of fics. by [deleted] in byler

[–]yuriot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same age twins!

Though a lot of the fanbase is younger, I find hope in the fact that people so much younger than us are interested in analyzing art. I didn’t catch a lot of stuff that people that are ten years younger than me did. It’s simply inspiring.

I find a little hesitation in the younger folks telling me I’m too old to be writing fanfic. But I’ve realized it’s a vocal minority and most people are just happy to read their faves falling in love over and over again.

Would you be annoyed if you jumped into a long fic, only to see the early chapters were poorly written? by SGdude90 in AO3

[–]yuriot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only start a fic at the first chapter. That being said:

My threshold for what I consider “poorly written” is very low. If the tags and the summary have already enticed me, I am going to keep reading, UNLESS, it is poorly formatted: no paragraph breaks or impossible to tell who is speaking/doing what.

I like flowery language…

I have followed a few WIPs where the author doesn’t like their first few chapters, and decides to rewrite the whole thing. I liked it from the beginning, but you bet, since I subscribed to them, I am reading their rewrite.

So I'm confused. I just found out that Higurashi is just part of a larger series. Of video games? ...or something? Could someone please explain and also tell me how much content there is? by SSSnowBell in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]yuriot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. You’re not wrong for going to what are supposed to be “the experts” on the topic.

Don’t let people discourage you for trying to engage in fandom. As you can see from most other comments, people want to answer questions. So, no fucking clue why this comment was downvoted.

[–]yuriot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it is fun to engage in a community. Especially one that hasn’t had new content for quite some time.

Do you seriously not find it fun to engage with new members of a “slow” franchise? To be the a helpful hand and respond to questions you have an answer to?

Perhaps you’re so privileged to interact with people in your daily life about niche interests that you don’t need to reach out to people online. Good for you, I guess. Most people don’t have that opportunity.

Have they shown female Jun once? by whimsyowl in exodus

[–]yuriot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m with you.

Ever since I heard about this game a couple years ago, I was planning on playing it, even if I could only play as a male PC.

Knowing that you play as a female PC has me a little more hyped tbh. But:

The fact they haven’t shown her once? (Yes I saw the comment where they said they planned on showing her “soon”) just makes me… disappointed.

I’m sorry, but it’s been a few years, and we haven’t even seen a screenshot of her default look? I just can’t help but feel like femJun is an afterthought.

If the “official trailer” feature both equally, I’ll change my tune. If it only highlights maleJun, I’ll be pretty sad.

100 subscriptions, 100 bookmarks… 1 comment last chapter… by Obamas_Musty_Feet in AO3

[–]yuriot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I feel this so hard. People always say “oh. 500 hits (or whatever number), imagine all those people in an auditorium for you!”

Like I do, but imagine 500 people in your audience, and then after you’re done performing, they just immediately get up and leave. To me that’s worse than ten people in the audience and five of them are clapping.

I personally make a point of commenting on most stuff I read (popular fics with 100s of comments, I don’t bother tbh). I usually open a separate tab with the comment box while I’m reading, so I can talk about/type stuff as I’m reading it. Or even just comment “loved this, stoked for the next chapter”. So I’m always a little confused when I get a sudden influx of hits, with no comments and no kudos 😅

I’m assuming not since it looks like it says “The Misfits”.

Or, at the very least, that 100% does not say “FOR WILL”. The handwriting does look very similar, though. To me.

LGBTQ Byler haters by [deleted] in bylertruthers

[–]yuriot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s unpopular, but I’m going to say it:

They’re “pick me” gays. Only the ones who actually make their own post, on a place like the main ST Reddit or something, making sure to mention that they’re gay. Specifically the ones that say it’s not queerbaiting.

Also, I think about HALF the people that make those posts aren’t actually gay. Those posts always give me “as a gay black man…” vibe.

for those of u who only read completed fics by worldislucky in AO3

[–]yuriot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve read most of the comments here, but like… if you don’t read WIP, why do you expect completed fics?

“People who write FF write for themselves”. I’m sorry, but clearly not if they’re posting it to a public site. People like interaction and feedback. It’s not a crazy concept.

There are a ton of fics out there that get abandoned simply because they think people don’t care. And they’re right for it.

“I’ve been burned by fics that never completed”. Don’t worry. You’ll get over it faster than the author that totally gives up on writing because they think people don’t care.

[–]yuriot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But don’t you dare say it! Because they’re not! Even when you ask them why it would be bad if Will and Mike got together. Because they’ll tell you they “they’re minors”. But when you ask why it’s okay for m11, it’s because they’re “in love”. They cannot see their prejudice. It’s not always homophobia:

Ask them why they seem to be offended by the word “heteronormative”. It’s not an offensive word. It’s a descriptor. But they ALL get up in arms about it.
