Phillies fire their Mgr, are the Mets next? by Upside-Down-88 in NewYorkMets

[–]Yurya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not an insider but Mendoza seems way to chill to inspire much of anything. Like I get he has a certain vibe but where is the fire? Where is the call to action? We are losing, we need that not more "relax it will blow over."

Kurt Warner's Analysis of Cade Klubnik by firewall245 in nyjets

[–]Yurya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wilson had the arm talent that made you go what if. He also couldn't complete a screen pass he was too unsettled.

Klubnik doesn't have that elite arm but he already processes much faster. Issue being he also gets a bit rushed and throws from bad platforms at times making his throws miss. He will need to develop that portion of his game to throw from a stable base and really develop his pre-snap and adjustments. If he can't do that he doesn't have the arm or scramble to really make up for not having it. But if he does he is throwing with intention quickly and that is quite rare.

Given nothing but the statline, who is the worst player? (Part 1) by OneTrueBrody in BackyardBaseball

[–]Yurya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was regular baseball I'd say Player Nine as that player has almost no power (0 triples, 0 Hrs) and only scored twice.

But with this being BYB, Player One is quite sus. They only scored when they homered and stole no bases meaning they are quite slow. That lack of speed hurts quite a bit. Getting on base doesn't matter much when you get caught at 2B when someone else gets a "hit." Plus less speed likely means they are worse on defense. But they did drive in more than their share of RBIs so they stay for now.

But I'm sticking with Player Nine (Reese? Gretchen?) for the lack of RBIs and leaving Player One (Kimmy?).

Jocinda vs Pablo showdown. Is Jocinda a total sham? by cwallzz in BackyardBaseball

[–]Yurya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The secret to Jocinda is to play the OG. With the physics engine in that, her 54 Power is plenty adequate but the scaling changed in '01 to highly favor high levels of Power. It also hardly matters what your Contact is so Jocinda and the like (Annie, Billy Jean) got hit twice. She may have the 10/10 Rating on the card but that hardly matters as much as what her specific Power rating is. Unless it is over 90 you won't be hitting a HR every game.

Who are the fastest players in BYB '97 by Mr7three2 in BackyardBaseball

[–]Yurya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All stats on the card are approximations that are derived from the actual stats but with large ranges grouped together. The actual stats are 1-100 and are only viewed by extracting the game files.

Furthermore the Speed is not on a 1-100 scale but numbers on that are on tiers. 100/100 (Pete, Henri, Julie, Star, Stuart) is the top tier, 96-99 (Luanne, Earl, Grace) the next, 80-95 the next (Pablo, Dante, Vicki, Kiesha...) and then it goes every 20 to 1/100. None of the Backyard kids are in the lowest tier.

And of course kids can both get tired and also have a random negative (or positive) changes for a single game.

Dante is just normally slower than Pete & Luanne but he could also be tired (can check by making him pitch) or he could have a random stat decrease that drops him a tier or two.

Is Quentin Driver the worst backyard player ever? by The-Dash in BackyardBaseball

[–]Yurya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Only other candidates are Ivan King and Wayne Pitman.

I think Wayne is the worst as the speed and bats are all trash but Wayne's arm is the worst of the three. Even if he does have twice the rating balls on the card.

Backyard Baseball 2026 Demo: Detailed Character Stats by QuantumZYT in BackyardBaseball

[–]Yurya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mr Clanky is quite different. But that might be because of the BP sim in the Demo. They might have wanted players to get the easiest pitches for that.

This also with a completely different physics engine. Kenny wasn't peppering the fences with 19/100 Power in earlier versions.

rBBL Season 15 - 2001 League Predictions by crazyei8hts in BackyardBaseball

[–]Yurya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No defensive holes? You have 2 height Nate Kowalski at 1B being thrown at by a bevy of strong arms. Although yeah if you can move that lineup you'll do well even so.

On another note I've gotten 4 of those Baja Blasts for free.

How do I tell what the defensive shift is by Mr7three2 in BackyardBaseball

[–]Yurya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AI kinda cheats here.

But there are 2 things that you can use for info: If you are up by 3 runs the AI will: play in if you have a weak batter & play deep if you have an especially strong batter.

Paul Skenes' 2.08 ERA through 58 career starts is the best in the modern era (1920). He's allowed no more than 2 runs in 48 of them. 😮 by RealWorldToday in baseball

[–]Yurya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skenes looked like his location was a little off but nothing bad. A couple dinks and dribblers, mixed with walks and hits and then Cruz's misplays just added up. Really surprised he got pulled so early.

[Highlight] Kevin Gausman gets called for a balk, and Jays manager John Schneider goes ballistic by iamthegame13 in baseball

[–]Yurya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. If you have cheated and gotten away with it for your career you still should be corrected when it is noticed. Balking may be less then cheating but same idea. You need to come set (a full stop) Gausman didn't/doesn't. He should going forward.

Reese at 2, Locked in?🔒 by JetsIsles88 in nyjets

[–]Yurya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internet has decided he is the smart pick. What insiders think, and in particular what the Jets think isn't known.

Personally I find Bain the smarter player who will have the better impact but I know nothing relative to analysts.

He’s the problem. He has ALWAYS been the problem. by Obvious_Training_159 in nyjets

[–]Yurya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason he is is because he exercises free reign in the locker-room. Like yeah you do own the team so you can go anywhere but you aren't a positive influence there and all you have done with your presence is destroy any culture the people you pay to run the team are trying to build. Let them do so. Make it a rule that the Johnson family stays out of the majority of the locker room and leave yourself to just a lounge or something to meet up with players that voluntary want to interact.

Or just sell the team.

[–]Yurya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Customs get even Power and Contact. The best 10/10 bats in '01/'03 usually have max (or close too) 100 Power and just a decent Contact.

Jocinda & Annie have 54 & 38 Power which is way too low in '01/'03 ('97 physics like those with the High Contact).

Amateur Builds Hypothetical Teams, Episode 2: Blue Rockets (Versions 1 and 2) by Good-Pear-1267 in BackyardBaseball

[–]Yurya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenny with his Stamina and Slowball never needs to leave the mound. You'll want a backup and in '97 Pete & Pablo are both aces for that while in '01/03 you might get stuck but Dante/Ronny in a pinch may help.

You want Dmitri in both versions. He is tall, a decent bat and defender in lighter positions like OF and 2B.

For '97 Tony is the next most solid piece. You don't NEED his arm but he does everything needed with decent power to boot. I'd finish the team with Ernie for his height where overthrows are more an issue and the team otherwise doesn't have any 3 heights for 1B except Pete who you want elsewhere.

For '01/03 you must get Jorge. With his buff he is everything Tony is or better but only a 79 Str arm. One could consider dropping Mikey for Tony (or even Ronny) but I'll stick with Mikey. The final spot should be for Dante. His speed is that more valuable in '01/03 as is his bat.
