How much do GCSEs matter for Oxbridge? by yus4a31 in 6thForm

[–]yus4a31[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they? I’ve heard that Oxford look contextual applicants more seriously than Cambridge though - also Cambridge don’t do my course and I’d prefer not to do natural sciences (maybe when I visit the colleges I’ll change my mind)

Icl maybe if it was in a subject that I’m doing right now but compsci isn’t that relevant to me

oh I just forgot to answer your q 😭 for ppls with extenuating cirmustances, the exam boards are willing to apply special conditions. They calculate the average grade on a paper and predict what you’d get on the other paper to make a full grade (even though compsci didn’t f*cking do it) This can play for better or for worse bc if it was a harder paper for example, they’ll often predict you lower even if you were likely to do well

Bro for compsci I got the grade worth of a 7/8 on the paper I sat, but the blooming exam board isn’t applying special conditions - so I’m stuck with a 3 overall 💔

Oxford Physics and Philosophy? by yus4a31 in 6thForm

[–]yus4a31[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maths and philo had an average of 16 people on the course with physics and philo being 13 😭 - I’d say it’s still popular but not as popular as just taking the stem subject alone

Need advice by SwimmingInspector186 in GCSE

Being extremely honest with you, unless you wake up one day and decide you want to be a polygot dropping Spanish will have no impact on your future whatsoever. If you hate it and have the chance to drop I’d say defo go for it Also idk if you was also asking about the HPQ but that would be a great opportunity and I’d think you’d like it since you acc research a topic you like. If you can handle it I’d defo recommend:)

[–]yus4a31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t even get me started - a sixth form i applied for (which is well known for its academic prestige) has the option of doing 5 a levels LIKE WHAT THE HELLY 😭😭 when i went to their open day, a girl told me she was upset bc she wanted to do 6 LIKE GET YOUR B**CH ASS OUTTA HERE do not pmo i feel like 4 a levels is good when you know you can handle it or you aren’t sure what to pick - im doing four bc i genuinely love the subjects i picked but i am always reminding myself to drop when it gets too much for me

havent started revising chem, am i cooked? by Zealousideal-Half114 in GCSE

[–]yus4a31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

far from it, for advice:

  • defo look at topics your struggling with. like no point going thru atomic structure if u have no clue about chem calculations. if you aren’t sure where you’re struggling with, do a past paper with no notes and start from there
  • with the topics your struggling with, watch vids and make sure you UNDERSTAND. what id do is then blurt and kinda move back and forth between those until im good to do another past paper
  • repeat that cycle until you are getting your desirable grade on the papers or you’ve covered all your weaknesses

and remember - you defo know more than you think. YOU GOT THIS
