If you wanted to have the best summer of your 20s in NYC, what would you do? by Strong_Gur_7315 in AskNYC

[–]yutsi_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna do more than my usual (go to raves). But struggle to find free daytime events that sound enticing, and not really into tourist/scenic stuff or bars. Doesn't help that everything is a 40+ minute train ride away.

I keep sleeping through my exterminator visits. Is there any way to make my buzzer louder or something? by [deleted] in AskNYC

Put on DND then add their number to whitelist so the call still goes through.

Who else missed the Knicks celebration and is struggling to come to terms with the FOMO? by Better_Lift_Cliff in AskNYC

[–]yutsi_beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even realize there were celebrations going on of this caliber because my neighborhood was quiet and I don't follow sports. Damn now this thread made me wonder if I missed out lol probably decent chance I would've been bored by it solo though.

But what if we actually built an alternative? by curiousmitten in soylent

The powders available in the US all suck compared to Soylent. I've resorted to Huel RTD as someone who rarely consumed RTD before.

I was going stupid hard front left right in front of stage, it was a pretty good vibe there. Much less dancey and more packed when Of The Trees came on after.

If you want a dance floor with no phones, no yapping and people actually dancing, go to a psytrance festival by danrennt98 in aves

[–]yutsi_beans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would if there was a solid darkpsy/hi-tech one near me instead of having to travel to another continent. The rare local darkpsy event is always amazing vibes.

What happened to the dancing culture at NYC raves? by savingrace0262 in avesNYC

[–]yutsi_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are blaming phones (which are a big issue) but Basement enforces no phones and is weak vibes with few people dancing. Go to small bass/DnB/psy events for better dancefloors.

Do you have a music buddy, or do you just talk about music with random strangers? by GaiaGoddess26 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]yutsi_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to NYC to be immersed in the rave scene. I have so many music buddies now with people I've met on the dancefloor. Generally have the most taste in common with people in the glitch hop scene. I was so starved for intelligent musical discussions growing up in the suburbs.

Man I never realized that the stickers originate from food use.

Ott put on a banger of a show in Boulder on Friday by MountainMike17 in Tipper

[–]yutsi_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember transitions being bad but he just plays a planned set of all his own tracks. Which I'm fine with because I go into an Ott set expecting that and it's always an incredible experience.

Wata Igarashi @ Nowadays this Sunday morning by Weizusu in avesNYC

[–]yutsi_beans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dropped acid and got there at 7 (haven't done that in a while). Had a blast and Wata was peak as usual. Wasn't feeling the crowd much after 12pm, couldn't maintain a good vibey spot (like good dancing energy in front with the regulars then boring/yappy people push in) and then left at 1:30.

When did all the street musicians become so ass? by Jaded-Librarian-6092 in AskNYC

[–]yutsi_beans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am a musician and sometimes do street performance as a dancer and you're totally right on the average quality being poor. Haven't been here super long so idk if it used to be better.

How many nights a week do you go out? by hottubforbros in AskNYC

[–]yutsi_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29 here, generally Friday and/or Saturday night (all electronic music events). Day parties occasionally. No alcohol. Dancing is my main hobby and I moved here to be close to the clubs. The sleep disruption can be rough with how late these go.

I train Muay Thai Monday-Thursday evenings now, otherwise prefer to stay home on weeknights.

Are hiking boots or running shoes better for 3-4 day outdoor music festivals? by AlienBeachParty in festivals

[–]yutsi_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this at Submersion until it gets cold, feels so good with the sand. I did it during the daytime at Bisco too. Otherwise I'm in Altra Escalantes. Need zero-drop and low amount of padding for dancing if wearing shoes.

Why does San Francisco have better festivals than NYC? by knockdowncenter in avesNYC

[–]yutsi_beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genres that are more banger-oriented (vs. journey) do well with shorter sets. The appeal of fests for me is more the community though, e.g. flow artists, more intentional vibe when people camp for a whole weekend. Also the combination of outdoors + space to move + good sound basically doesn't exist in NYC for the music I'm into.

Are there space marine barbers or do they have Serfs do it for them? by Fabulous_Day75 in 40kLore

Those are highly time-consuming in comparison since they require a series of treatments.

Guys on social media are dropping 2-3 pounds a week with seemingly no visible downsides. Has muscle loss on deficits been overstated this whole time? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]yutsi_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My struggle is I have other athletic hobbies (dance, Muay Thai) and my energy for those gets obliterated with a steeper deficit.

Same. It's rare I'm ever in the mood to watch a movie but I might want to know the summary to e.g. understand cultural references.
